My humble little stamping blog here is less than a year old so I didn't realize the year-end favorites showcase was a thing until I saw everyone else was doing it and so I'm hopping on the bandwagon slightly late because I wanna go to the party too. I'm a teensy bit hampered by the fact that it looks like I was a bit sporadic in uploading to my SCS gallery this year, but I've got a few fun cards from the first 6 months of 2012. (Detailed supplies lists for all my cards are included in my gallery.)
This one uses Curly Cute and Mixed Bunch and I think that might be this year's SAB paper? Hope I have a hoard of that somewhere ;)
Here's a Valentine card with nary a heart to be seen, but the Eiffel Tower is romantic, right? This one uses Artistic Etchings, Grateful Greetings (retired), and En Francais.
I didn't have a whole lot in the gallery for around March, but I thought this kid birthday card was tolerably cute. I like how the background came out--it's just scribbling on the acrylic block with markers, spritzing with water, and smooshing it around on the paper. This one uses Dinoroar and I forget the alphabet.
So this uses the retired sets Bronc Buster, Wanted (which now live in the same stamp case because I almost always use them together) and Cute & Curly. I needed an encouragement card for my dad who is a die-hard Oklahoma State Cowboy.
Here's something more CAS-y, again with Mixed Bunch and Curly Cute. (I kind of love both those sets.)
I couldn't pick just one for June so I've got one manly card and one girly card. Love this one with French Foliage and one of the retired All-Year Cheer stamp sets; I think I need to use this layout more often 'cause I love it.
One more CAS creation with Kindness Matters and the (sadly retired) Thank You Kindly. That Beau Chateau DSP is now on the clearance rack...and I am resisting buying any more retired DSP because I think I've hit critical mass when it comes to patterned paper o.O
Stay tuned for the second half tomorrow and Happy New Year!

Friday Flashback: Sweet Cake
Time for a NON-Christmas Friday Flashback. Today's set is Sweet Cake, which somehow mysteriously arrived at my house just before the 2012 occasions mini expired. I blame Sadie.
Since I bought it right before it went bye-bye, I never made anything with it when it was current (again, I blame Sadie) and to be honest I kinda feel like the Force is not with me today. I kinda started getting a headache when I looked at something on the Mac, I think the screen brightness might be set too high? I don't know. I tried inking up the stamp with markers but that looked like poo so instead I stamped it once in each color I needed and then cut out pieces to layer together. Not something I'd recommend for mass production but I've done sillier things.
Anyway, I think I'll go downstairs, have a cuppa, and veg in front of the TV because I can. Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by!
Supplies:
Stamps: Sweet Cake (retired)
Ink: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Soft Suede, Lucky Limeade
Paper: Calypso Coral, Whisper White, Sweet Shoppe Specialty DSP (retired)
Accessories: Dimensionals

Sycamore Street Birthday Wishes
Howdy! Today I've got a card to share that kinda feels a bit different than my normal style.
The layout is courtesy of Sketch Frenzy Friday. I like the sketch but somehow I think my card looked cooler in my head than it does on paper. Well, not every card can be your favorite, right? And it's always fun to spend time in the stamp room :) Better yet when you've got some new goodies to play with, like the Sycamore Street DSP and ribbon & button pack (though I haven't used any of the buttons yet, I admit).
Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Fabulous Phrases
Ink: Island Indigo
Paper: Tangerine Tango, Sahara Sand, Sycamore Street DSP (sneaky peeky!)
Accessories: Sycamore Street ribbon & button pack (more sneaky peeky!)

A Cup of Thanks
Happy Boxing Day! I think that's much more of a thing here in England than it is in the States, but whatever. Each year I like to make some post-Christmas thank you cards that kind of coordinate with whatever I did for Christmas cards, so here is this year's tea-inspired thanks:
I've used SO much of my pack of Be of Good Cheer DSP that I had to break out some of the In Color DSP stack for the background layer. But using up the Christmas DSP is a good thing 'cause I've got so very much retired stuff too! I think this card looks a little better IRL than in the picture though...the glimmer paper helps separate the tea cup from the same color DSP better in person.
Today's card is brought to you by Freshly Made Sketches.
And now I think I'll go downstairs and make myself a cuppa while I catch up on some recorded TV shows. Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Tea Shoppe
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Midnight Muse
Paper: Midnight Muse, Very Vanilla, Champagne Glimmer, Be of Good Cheer & In Color DSP
Accessories: Dimensionals

Happy Christmas Teacups
I've been holding out to post these cards ON Christmas Day and now I finally can! These were our Christmas cards this year...I wanted to do something that reflected Christmas in England, so I went with teacups!
At first I was going to have the center teacup stamped in the opposite color, then cut out and popped up like in the card on the right, but I ended up deciding that was too much work so I went with all 3 teacups one color.
About half the cards were red, the other half green, and I used 6 different patterns from the Be of Good Cheer paper pack. Unfortunately these cards were rather adhesive-intensive so I am once again completely OUT of Snail. Oops!
The card layout is based on the first-ever sketch challenge at Fab Friday. I stamped one of the longer sentiments from More Merry Messages on the inside of each card. Happy Christmas!
Supplies:
Stamps: Tea Shoppe, More Merry Messages
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Midnight Muse
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Gumball Green, Midnight Muse, Very Vanilla, Be of Good Cheer DSP, Champagne Glimmer Paper
Accessories: Circle punch (I forget what size I used), SAMJ 'cause I love it

White Christmas
It looks like more of a WET Christmas here than a white one, but that's okay. Hope everyone out there is having a wonderful holiday with family and friends. I've been doing some holiday baking and I think we're about to go watch a Christmas movie :)
Made this for last week's SCS color challenge to make an all-white card (which, to be honest, is an anti-color challenge). I did sneak in just a bit of Bordering Blue so you could read the sentiment and to give the edges of that panel a bit of definition, but the sparkly snowflake is pretty nice on its own. It's prettier IRL, but at least the camera caught some of the sparkle this time.
Merry Christmas!
Supplies:
Stamps: Serene Snowflakes (retired), Sweet Essentials
Ink: Versamark, Bordering Blue (retired)
Paper: Whisper White
Accessories: Square Lattice EF, Iridescent Ice EP

Friday Flashback: Sleigh Ride
Two good things today: so far it looks like the apocalypse is a dud, and I was picked as a Fab Fave at Fab Friday :) That was a lovely surprise!
So usually for the Friday Flashback, I choose the name of a stamp set out of a proverbial hat (it's actually a rather large Rubbermaid container, I don't think all those slips of paper would fit in a hat unless it was the one Big Tex used to wear at the Texas State Fair...and he combusted this year anyway). This time, since it's the last Christmas edition of the Friday Flashback for this year, I decided I wanted to use Sleigh Ride, which is the set I used for my very first-ever handmade Christmas cards back in 2004. Wanna see?
D'awwwww. Oh yes, this is before I discovered the joys of the Stamp-a-ma-jig, which I still use pretty much every time I stamp. This card was pretty much an exact copy of what was in the catalog that year, only the original had brads on it somewhere. I think that I'm still on that very first pack of Confetti Cream cardstock too...not one I use much. (Supply list here if you want it.) I must have been crazy to watercolor a gazillion Christmas cards (not that I haven't done that again since then, I never learn)...my sweet hubs even helped with the watercoloring that year. Anyway, I intentionally didn't look at this card again before I made the new 2012 version:
And I'm laughing because I colored in most of the image with pretty much the same colors as the first time, except I left the trees snow-covered this time. Well, I'm consistent. This time I used WWC to color it in instead of watercolor pencils, much better color matches to cardstock. And since I am now a seasoned stamper, I was brave enough to add brads to this one, which kind of made me giggle because I remember thinking brads were just too advanced when I made that first card way back when.
I'm an overachiever today, I made two cards for the Flashback. I don't think I'd used the bell stamp before so it needed some love. This sketch isn't particularly my style though...it was an SCS challenge a couple weeks ago that I didn't do thanks to my cold (the previous card is this week's sketch tweaked a little bit). Anyway, I thought it would be fun to do So Saffron for a Christmas card and it worked with the bells, I kinda like it. And can you tell how much I love my Framelits? I did have to cut the squarish one in half on this card as it wasn't *quite* wide enough to mat my bell image how I wanted it to.
So that's it for the Christmas Friday Flashbacks, so who knows what it will be next week! Thanks for stopping by today, may your Friday be totally non-apocalyptic :)
Happy Holidays card supplies:
Stamps: Sleigh Ride (retired, obviously, or this wouldn't be a Friday Flashback)
Ink: Chocolate Chip craft (is there a petition to get this back? 'Cause I'd totally sign, I love this ink pad)
Paper: Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Deck the Halls DSP (retired)
Accessories: WWC, clear EP, Apothecary Accents Framelits, retired vintage brads, Dimensionals
Christmas Bells card supplies:
Stamps: Sleigh Ride
Ink: Chocolate Chip craft
Paper: So Saffron, Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Jolly Holiday DSP (retired)
Accessories: WWC, clear EP, Labels & Apothecary Accents Framelits, Dimensionals

Not a Poinsettia!
So my horrible British cold has abated enough that I can work on stuff in my craft room again, so for the last couple of days I've been working on dozens of swaps. Can't wait to show those, but first, we have to get through the Christmas card extravaganza (and that whole possible apocalypse thing). So here's today's card, flat and easy to mail!
I don't think I inked up the sentiment *quite* well enough. My Riding Hood Red ink pad developed the Dreaded Brown Goo, so I thought I've got nothing to lose, let's see if I can wash it off. It did slide right off the top of the ink pad and then a bunch of ink did too so it looked like I killed something in my sink, but since it's water-based ink even that didn't last long. Then I let the ink pad dry overnight, put some ink refill in it, and so far so good. 'Cept maybe we need more ink refill in there.
So hey, I finally used Watercolor Winter *without* using the poinsettia stamp! I'm quite proud. I saw this layout on a blog...somewhere...a few weeks ago...and of course now I have no idea where it was, so if it's yours, let me know so I can give credit properly.
Have a wonderful day and watch out for crazy Mayans tomorrow!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Watercolor Winter, Curly Cute
Ink: Always Artichoke, Riding Hood Red, Chocolate Chip
Paper: Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, Regals DSP Stack
Accessories: Scallop border punch, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" square punches

Baja Breeze Poinsettias?
Sure, why not! Made this one for last week's SCS color and sketch challenges:
I realize there are other stamps in this set than the poinsettias, but I'm still having fun with the flowers :) I didn't put a sentiment on the front due to the textured layer, and I ended up using it as a birthday card for a friend of mine (yes, it's already been mailed, woohoo!). I kind of wish I'd stamped off the poinsettias on the square layer so the fussy-cut one would stand out more, but I'm not of a mind to redo it :)
Thanks for stopping by today!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Watercolor Winter, En Francais
Ink: Baja Breeze, Soft Suede, So Saffron

Christmas Deer
I confess, as soon as next Wednesday gets here, I'll be happy to post something *other* than a Christmas/winter card ;) But today, I bring you a Christmas deer.
I'm a little surprised there's not more samples with this set in the SCS gallery, I think it's elegant and it's not very expensive either. I added a few pearls on the deer's antlers and the 25 stamp just because.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Supplies (all SU):
Stamps: Christmas Deer, Merry & Type
Ink: Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Neutrals DSP Stack, Crumb Cake DSP (retired, but only because I was out of the current pattern I wanted to use in Crumb Cake)
Accessories: Labels Framelits, wide oval punch, Curly Label punch, pearls

Peace on Earth
Today's card was inspired by one I saw on Dawn Olchefske's blog, I love Christmas cards made with stamps that are not technically supposed to be Christmasy :)
Heyyyy, I made a CAS card! :) Super quick to put together too...or it would have been had I not gotten an ink smudge on it the first time around, so I had to make it twice. Still, probably under 10 minutes.
Supplies:
Stamps: The Open Sea, Jolly Jingles wheel (unmounted)
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Gumball Green
Paper: Sahara Sand
Accessories: Gumball Green stitched satin ribbon
And just because I can't see the phrase "peace on earth" without this coming to mind, how about a music video. Enjoy!

Friday Flashback: The Sounding Joy
Welcome to another Christmas edition of the Friday Flashback. This week's set is The Sounding Joy, which is one that I resisted and resisted buying when it was in the mini catalog (was that last year or the year before?), and then I totally caved and bought it at the last minute. Then when it arrived Christmas was over with and I never made anything with it...until today!
I was tidying up some things in my craft room when I ran across the retired snowflake accents, which are the Petite Felt Flurries...got those on the clearance rack quite some time ago and I'd never done anything with them, either. And this is the first time I've cut into the Letters to Santa DSP that I also got on clearance. Man, I need to steer clear of the clearance rack.
Anyway, once I found the snowflakes, I had my color combo and I immediately knew what sketch I wanted to use: this week's Retro Sketch.
My panels are bigger to accommodate my larger stamped images, but I stuck pretty close to the sketch. As always, thanks for stopping by and hope you have a lovely Friday! I'm about to brave the cold and rain and go run some errands.
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: The Sounding Joy
Ink: Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, Versamark
Paper: Baja Breeze, Early Espresso, Whisper White, Bella Rose & Letters to Santa DSP (both retired, I think I should make it a point to use up more retired paper when I do Friday Flashbacks, what do you think?)
Accessories: Petite Felt Flurries, gold brad, gold EP

CAS Christmas Ornament
Sometimes I see a sketch I really like, and then it takes me forever to figure out what to do with it because there are so MANY possibilities. Like the Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch that was posted almost a week ago:
Yep, love it. I was actually pretty productive in my stamp cave today and came up with this (and a few other cards, but you won't see those till next week):
I liked how the Champagne glimmer paper reflected on the shelf under the card :) I embossed a panel of Cherry Cobbler cardstock and then adhered it to a card base of the same color, which is something I picked up from Debra Currier (love her blog). The card is pretty CAS I think...I added a thin torn border of Early Espresso because the Marina Mist strip just seemed to need a little something more. The card is actually 5 1/4" across, but only because for some reason my card base was cut that way (scrap from my stash) and I didn't feel like cutting into a new piece of paper. Doubt anyone would notice if I didn't say anything about it ;)
Thanks for stopping by today, hope you're having a wonderful Thursday!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Tags til Christmas, More Merry Messages
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Early Espresso
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Champagne Glimmer Paper (look Ma, no DSP!)

A Fresh Pink Poinsettia
Seemed like it took me forever to get cookin' yesterday, but today I had a card I really liked within like a half hour of going in my craft room. Lookie!
Not to shabby, I like it! (It's okay if I say I like my own stuff, right? I mean, why else do we spend all this time creating things if we don't like the results?) The poinsettia is fussy-cut and I added a bit of Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details to the center for just a touch of bling. The DSP is from a very old pack called Holiday Harmony...could have used some current Always Artichoke DSP but I'm trying to get rid of at least a little bit of my old stuff. Maybe if I actually got started on the Christmas scrapbook I bought before Lee and I got married...
Anyway, I digress. This card was made possible by today's Freshly Made Sketch:
Ok, so once again I kind of tweaked it just a tiny bit but I think it still counts. Thanks for stopping by today, and happy 12 - 12 - 12!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Watercolor Winter, Teeny Tiny Wishes
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Pretty in Pink, Always Artichoke
Paper: Cherry Cobbler, Pretty in Pink, Very Vanilla, Holiday Harmony DSP (retired)
Accessories: Word Window & Modern Label punches, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, Dimensionals

Merry & Bright...Now With Glitter
Ever spend all morning working on chores, then finally get up to your stampy space in the afternoon, sit down and NOTHING HAPPENS? I kinda had that problem today. Like a lot. I think I just sat and stared at my Christmas/winter stamps for at least 20 minutes without moving.
After much work and too many brain bytes, I came up with this:
The color combo is from Fab Friday, though to be honest I would have preferred to have it *without* the Real Red. Don't get me wrong, I like Real Red just fine, but not with Primrose Petals...I think they clash. So I only used the Real Red on the smallest snowflake (yeah, I went back to Snow Swirled for this). I wasn't originally planning on doing it but then somehow the whole image got coated with Iridescent Ice EP...I think I should find a sentiment that says something about sparkle. It's much, much more sparkly IRL than in the picture...I took several pics and none of them really captured the sparkle.
There's the challenge color palette. I suppose this also works for the SUO Challenge to use glitter, too!
Now to figure out what to do next...cudgel my brain to come up with another card, or do a workout at home? The weather here is not too great so my sweetie pie asked me not to leave the house to go to the gym today. As I have no desire to experience a car wreck firsthand, I'm inclined to agree with him. Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Snow Swirled, Jolly Jingles (this is a jumbo wheel, I unmounted it and cut it into individual stamps)
Ink: Primrose Petals, Real Red, Pool Party, Gumball Green, Versamark
Paper: Gumball Green, Whisper White, In Color DSP Stacks
Accessories: Apothecary Accents Framelits, Iridescent Ice EP

Sparkly Pink Snowflakes
I saw this pretty pink snowflake card on SCS last week and ever since then I've been wanting to make something with pink snowflakes. And I really liked the most recent sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches:
Just under the wire! And then Dynamic Duos went with monochromatic pinks, so it just had to happen!
So here's what I did:
I kind of wish that snowflake from Mixed Medley was just a little bit bigger for this sketch. Just for funsies (and because I hadn't used it in a long time), I coated the snowflake in Iridescent Ice embossing powder.
Then I kinda wanted to see what it would look like with more "traditional" blue snowflakes (though if you wanna get technical, real snowflakes are white).
ETA: Just discovered that my blue snowflake card works for Nacho Average Challenge #24, bonus!
So which one do you like better, the pink & gold or the blue & silver? I like 'em both!
Thanks for stopping by today!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Mixed Medley, More Merry Messages
Ink: Pretty in Pink, Rose Red, Versamark, Bashful Blue, Night of Navy
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Whisper White, Brushed Gold, Floral District DSP; Bashful Blue, Brushed Silver, Regals DSP Stack
Accessories: Corner rounder punch, 1 1/4" scallop circle punch, scallop edge border punch, Iridescent Ice EP, gold brad, silver mini brad

Friday Flashback: Snowflakes
Today's Friday Flashback stamp set is a real oldie, Snowflakes...and the first of *indistinct mumble* snowflake stamp sets in my collection :)
I made this for my very first stamp club workshop when I became a demonstrator; my friend asked to do polished stone (still probably one of my favorite techniques). I did another one of these where I wrapped the silver cord around the outside of the brads rather than having it go around the inside corners, and I liked that one better but I think that was the card that Sadie thought it was a chew toy so I never got a picture of it (Sadie is my little girl Lab mix). You can see the full supply list here.
Another oldie, I can tell because it's a scan rather than a photo. How's that for some less-traditional snowflake colors? I still miss Cool Caribbean. And Happy Everything, I loved that stamp set. Supply list for this one is here.
And here's my two new cards using Snowflakes. I finally got to do the Create with Connie & Mary color challenge to use Baja Breeze, Wisteria Wonder, and Silver but too late to enter the challenge. And I think I might like that one better if I'd stamped the snowflakes on white paper instead of the Baja, but I was trying something different. The Pacific Point/Bermuda Bay one on the right just looks more crisp to me. These are both variations on the current CAS(e) This Sketch challenge:

O Christmas Tree
I feel like I've been going at warp 9 all day, wrapping presents, getting packages ready to mail, updating my address book...which seriously, I don't think I'd done that since I got married 9 years ago, so it was way past due. I have to get back in my stamp room tomorrow to make some new cards for the Friday Flashback, but today's is another one I made a little while back.
I think I'm addicted to that little Happy Christmas stamp. And possibly all of Scentsational Season. Hey, at least I'm using all these stamps I keep spending all my money on, right?
Thanks for stopping by today and have a great evening!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Scentsational Season, More Merry Messages
Ink: More Mustard, Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler
Paper: More Mustard, Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Be of Good Cheer DSP
Accessories: Dimensionals

More Snow Swirled :)
Work continues on my Christmas cards for this year...I'm making 65. How many are you making? If you've already got your cards made, your letter written, and everything in the mail, then I don't wanna hear about it.
I made this for a Christmas card swap back in 2008 (this being the only Snow Swirled card I had made before this year). Just some simple masking and sponging for the Baja Breeze snowflake oval, and the tree was stamped with Not Quite Navy craft ink (back when SU sold craft ink) and embossed. I imagine you could do pretty much the same thing with the extra-juicy new ink pads.
Happy Wednesday, and thanks for stopping by!
Supplies (all SU!):
Stamps: Snow Swirled
Ink: Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Not Quite Navy craft
Paper: Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Not Quite Navy
Accessories: Coluzzle oval template (retired, but we're soon to get some oval Framelits! Woohoo!), paper piercing template

The Happy Gingerbread Man
I meant to get this posted earlier today, but my friend Liz came over and we worked on Christmas cards. I've made some good progress on those! Over the weekend I made a set of these gingerbread men cards for my SU customers, and they've even gone out in the mail already, yay me.
I totally swiped the layout from Julie Davison's blog, this post featuring Papillon Potpourri in particular. I just love the layout : ) My proportions are a bit different though, I was going off of a quick sketch I did in a notebook when I made these, but I still think they came out alright. I love that fun snowflake paper, a lot of times I like the more free-flowing patterns like that one. But I also love me some stripes and plaids : ) Since I have a TON of Christmas paper, I limited myself to just ONE pack this year and I'm doing my best to use up as much of it as I can. Doing pretty well on that goal so far, hehe!
Hope you're having a wonderful week, thanks for stopping by!
Supplies (all SU):
Stamps: Scentsational Season, More Merry Messages
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Paper: Gumball Green, Very Vanilla, Be of Good Cheer DSP
Accessories: Apothecary Accents & Holiday Collection Framelits, Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, Dimensionals

Warm Winter Mittens
I was fairly productive over the weekend: I got all the cardstock cut for our personal Christmas cards this year and made a few other cards (because I am that good at procrastinating, I ignore the stuff that I have to do on a deadline). I always say I'm going to do those early and here it is, already December and I haven't made them yet. Oops. That HAS to happen this week, but in the meantime I have a fun winter card for you : )
Lookie there, I re-inked my Whisper White ink pad! Looks so much nicer now though it takes a long time to dry. When I first had the idea for this card, I was going to do the mittens in Real Red, but then I changed my mind and went with Tangerine Tango. I'm diggin' that bright pop of orange, what do you think? And prior to this year, I'd only used Snow Swirled, like, once, and I think this is the third card I've made with it in a week. Guess it was just biding its time.
I got the layout from a recent Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch that I didn't get to the week it was posted:
And for once I think I stuck to the sketch pretty darned closely! : ) It's possible that I had "My Favorite Things" from the Sound of Music stuck in my head while I made my card, particularly that line about "warm woolen mittens". Personally I think wool is scratchy, I'll stick with my Isotoner gloves.
Thanks for stopping by, hope your week is off to a great start!
Supplies (all SU):
Stamps: Make a Mitten, Snow Swirled, Bootiful Occasions
Ink: Whisper White, Island Indigo, Pool Party
Paper: Island Indigo, Pool Party, Whisper White, In Color DSP Stack
Accessories: Mitten Builder Punch, Pool Party baker's twine, Dimensionals
