Howdy, folks! Once again, I'm a bit late with my post since it's almost 3 p.m. here. I blame it on a variety of factors:
1. British Daylight Savings Time. Can we just get rid of this concept forever and ever amen? Because it's stoopid.
2. Saturday night insomnia. I was going to stamp yesterday, but then due to middle-of-the-night insomnia and DST, I didn't actually get out of bed until after 11 a.m. and that just kinda threw my plans out of whack.
3. Yesterday afternoon it seemed very important that I watch The Avengers instead of stamping. We saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Saturday, and you have my permission to be jealous because it was released in Britain already and you guys in the States still have to wait. Bwahahaaaa! I want to go see it again.
But I finally made a card today!
My stamping muse is being a little temperamental still after her little hiatus thanks to tea party and test taking up almost all of March. She changed her mind about six times as to what stamps we were going to use with the sketch I picked before we agreed on the peacock. And now I sound like a crazy person, but if you know me in real life you know I really am crazy.
So here's the sketch I picked, courtesy of Freshly Made Sketches:
Today is the last day of Sale-a-Bration so I was kinda planning on using one of the SAB stamp sets but then that didn't happen so I used a bit of the SAB Sweet Sorbet DSP instead and look at me and all the TLAs (Three-Letter Acronyms). I know what I'm sayin' even if no one else does.
Cheers, peeps! Thanks for stopping by.
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: World Treasures, Occasions
Ink: Night of Navy, Island Indigo, Rich Razzleberry
Paper: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Sweet Sorbet & International Bazaar DSP (and after today, both of those will be retired)
Accessories: Rhinestones, Dimensionals

Friday Flashback: Madison Avenue
Happy Friday and welcome to this week's slightly late Friday Flashback! My mom emailed me and asked why I didn't have a card up earlier today...well, I just didn't get around to getting my craft room back in order from all the craziness of the past couple of weeks until today. And since it's been a couple of weeks since I spent much time in my craft room, I got off to a slow start. Got there eventually though so here's today's Flashback! Our randomly-chosen retired stamp set for today is Madison Avenue, one of last year's Sale-a-Bration options.
I like free stamps, but unless the stamp set is really, really, REALLY cool, I don't seem to use the SAB stamps very much. Looks like I'm not the only one, either--the Splitcoast gallery for this set is pretty small. Oh well, here's my new card:
Thought it might be fun to combine last year's SAB stamps with this year's SAB paper (plus the Sweet Sorbet colors were this week's Splitcoast color challenge). I'm so rusty on stamping that I had a hard time getting my flowers stamped straight even *with* the Stamp-a-ma-jig, so I actually cut out the flower heads and popped them up over the stems where I wanted them. The center parts are still kinda crooked but I sort of hid that part with some Candy Dots :)
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope your weekend is bloomin' marvelous! We're hoping to go see the new Captain America, so yay!
Supplies, last card only:
Stamps: Madison Avenue, Bloomin' Marvelous
Ink: Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Summer Starfruit, StazOn Black
Paper: Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Whisper White, Sweet Sorbet DSP
Accessories: Oval & Scalloped Oval punches, Dimensionals, Subtles Candy Dots

Wonderland Sign Co.
I've got some more Mad Hatter tea party decorations to share today (which you may have already seen on my other blog). Still, they're paper crafty so I thought I'd share them here. (Plus, I haven't gotten my craft room back into working order yet.)
My front door sign is a little the worse for wear...it was super-windy the day of the tea party, so the sign kept coming off the door (even after I taped it to the door) so it went for a jaunt around the front yard and got rained on.
We had lots and lots of food at the tea party, so I made these little labels for everything. Some were teapots and some were teacups, and they were all different colors.
One of my co-hosts made "Eat Me" and "Drink Me" labels in PowerPoint, and then we printed them off on light-colored cardstock and die cut with the Chalk Talk Framelits. The "Drink Me" were for "potion" bottles (no one changed size at our party though) and the "Eat Me" ones were for the party favors--hat-shaped cookies packaged up with a tea bag for a snack later.
There's one part in Disney's Alice in Wonderland where Alice is wandering around and a whole bunch of signs appear saying things like Turn Back, Keep Out, etc. So we made a whole bunch of signs to put up around the house. For this one, we intentionally did poor spacing and then let some letters dangle because we figure the Mad Hatter wasn't paying strict attention while making his shop sign.
I cut out the letters for the signs and one of my friends stuck them all on; I told her it made me happy that she turned the S around backwards on this one.
She also wanted googly eyes for the Tulgey Wood sign, and luckily I had some in my stash.
I locked my dogs upstairs during the tea party, so I had this sign pointing up toward them.
Just some more decorations in the corner of the living room. That's not even all the signs; we had Pool of Tears, Keep Out, Simply Impassable, Duchess' House (there's a scene in the book where Alice meets the duchess in her kitchen and complains that there's too much pepper in the soup), and probably a couple others I can't remember offhand. I just took down all the signs yesterday.
That's it for me, Tweedle Dee just told me she wants to go for a walk. Have a wonderful day!

Painting the Roses Red
I've discovered that my camera really doesn't like Real Red, which made it difficult to get good photos of the rose topiary my friends and I made for the Mad Hatter tea party last week.
The colors were heavily edited in this and it still doesn't look right, but it was the best I got on the night. So a day or two later, I took that topiary out in the backyard to get some pics with natural light, hoping that would work better.
So, it was better, but not totally awesome. Still, you get the idea. If you want to make one of these, here's how to do it in eleven easy steps:
1. Email me. I will try to talk you out of it.
2. Buy a Styrofoam ball, a dowel, and some kind of container to use as a base, and sweet-talk your husband into drilling holes for you and gluing the dowel in place.
3. Paint the Styrofoam ball, either green or the color of your flowers. At least, I would do this part if I had it all to do over again, because the white Styrofoam peeking out between the flowers offends my OCD.
4. Con two (or more!) friends into helping. Bribe them with baked goods. It helps if your friends are crazy too.
5. Cut five million cardstock flowers with SU's Spiral Flower die. Really, this is going to take a lot more cardstock than you think it is.
6. Roll up the flowers...this is where it's good to have some minions working too. After the first dozen or so, your fingers start to hurt. We were doing most flowers with two die cuts rolled together to make the roses look fuller.
7. Have the bare topiary set up and ready for foliage. Use a hot glue gun to glue each flower together, then stick it on the Styrofoam ball. For this particular topiary, we did the first half of it with one of us wielding the glue gun, the second person attaching flowers to the topiary, and the third person rolling more flowers. And I think all of us were wondering why we decided this was a good idea when we could have just bought some real roses.
8. If you're the one using the glue gun, accept the fact that you will burn your fingers, and get glue everywhere. Any glue that's left on the rose petals and won't come off is now DEW so it's artistic.
9. Repeat ad infinitum. By now your friends have probably had to leave, so you've condensed the three-woman operation into a one-woman blockbuster activity. Tell hubs he has to make his own dinner.
10. Cut out three million more cardstock flowers and start rolling up some smaller ones to squeeze in between the larger ones where the Styrofoam peeks through.
11. Come to grips with the fact that you're just not going to be able to cover all that Styrofoam, and realize that most guests at your tea party probably aren't going to examine the topiary in minute detail anyway.
We did just a few roses that were part red, part white because the cards got interrupted before they finished painting the roses red. A few of our roses kind of unraveled a bit when we put them on the topiary, so I rolled up some really tight rosebud-looking pieces to add into the flower centers (see the red and white flower with the all-white center?).
We had lots of thin strings of glue everywhere but quickly figured out that it did no good to try to get them off while you were still gluing flowers everywhere, so we just waited until the end to try to remove them all at once.
I'm not sure exactly how much cardstock this took because we die cut a bunch of hearts to use as decorations too. Between the hearts and the roses, we burned through an entire 12x12 pack plus a whole 8.5x11 pack of Real Red cardstock, so like I said, it took a LOT.
If I ever start thinking it would be a good idea to make another one of these sometime in the future, hubs has been instructed to confiscate my glue gun. It's probably both cheaper and faster to buy real roses. True, these roses won't die, but still!
Thanks for stopping by today!

Nachos: Orchids for a Friend
Hellooooo Nacho fans! Wait till you see the beautiful color combo
the Nacho Average Design Team has for you today...actually, you don't
have to wait 'cause here it is!
I admit, I'm generally not a fan of Blushing Bride but darn it all if I don't really like it with Rich Razzleberry and Rose Red. So here's my card!
The colors reminded me of all the beautiful orchids I saw in Japan, so I had to break out this stamp from Happy Watercolor. The flowers are stamped with Versamark and embossed with Early Espresso EP, then watercolored with a mixture of blender pen and Aquapainter. I sponged some River Rock ink on it just because it seemed like a good idea at the time :)
Now it's your turn! Check out the other beautiful Nacho DT creations on the Nacho Average Challenges blog, and then show us what you've got!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Happy Watercolor, Postage Collection
Ink: Versamark, Blushing Bride, Rose Red, Rich Razzleberry, River Rock
Paper: Blushing Bride, Rose Red, Rich Razzleberry, Whisper White, retired Rich Razzleberry DSP
Accessories: Curly Label punch, pearls, Beautifully Baroque EF, Early Espresso EP, Dimensionals

Friday Flashback: Going Out in Style
Happy Friday, peeps! The Mad Hatter tea party was at my house last night and I think it was a success. Today though my feet still hurt and so does my back from all the running around like crazy that I did yesterday! But here I sit with a nice mug o' breakfast tea and a yummy cream scone with strawberry jam. And a small piece of apple bread. And a mini lemon tart. Gotta get rid of some leftovers, and I haven't even looked at the dozens of mini cupcakes yet.
Anyway, in honor of the Mad Hatter theme from yesterday, today's not-randomly-chosen retired stamp set is Going Out in Style because it features hats! So let's go.
Yep, hats. I believe I made this for my SIL for a graduation, but it's been a number of years now. And that was all I had in my archives for this stamp set, so here's my new card:
I think this lady needs a stamp that says "Fabulous, Darling!" but I love that quote about well-behaved women too.
That's it for me this week; I think I'll be spending the weekend washing loads of dishes from the tea party :) Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
Supplies, last card only:
Stamps: Going Out in Style
Ink: Versamark, Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Raspberry Ripple, Blushing Bride, Pool Party, Early Espresso
Paper: Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Island Indigo, Whisper White, not quite sure what DSP since I found it in my scraps
Accessories: retired 5-Petal Flower punch, Petite Petals punch, large rhinestone, Dimensionals, Early Espresso EP

Another card I made last year and didn't post yet...
I sponged Elegant Eggplant ink onto the smaller heart, and even though I made this card last October and tried to clean off the ink pad at the time, it still has some sparklies on it.

Nachos: Happy Bouquet
It's Nacho day! This week's Nacho Average Challenge is a sketch:
And here is my slightly liberal interpretation of the sketch, rotated 90 degrees to the left:
This all started because I had that "You make me happy" banner already stamped and cut out because it was supposed to go on another project and just didn't work, so then I thought heyyyy I can use it on this sketch! So then I broke out three different flower stamp sets and coordinating punches and went to town. And dude, Hardwood is making me love background stamps again. I think I need to convert my backgrounds to unmounted--the retired background stamps are the only ones in my collection that are still wood-mounted. Anyway.
Head on over to the Nacho blog to see what the rest of the design team has in store for you and then get yo stamp on! Cheers, peeps!

Rock of Cashel
Since today is St. Patrick's Day, it seems an appropriate time to share a scrapbook layout from our trip to Ireland a few years ago, don't you think? Behold!
You can see my original blog post on these pictures here. I still have lots of Ireland pics to scrapbook, and my plan is to use a shade of green as the base for every layout. I used the long-retired Handsome Hunter on this layout and just a few pops of yellow.
Happy St. Paddy's Day, hope you're wearing green! Erin go bragh!
Supplies:
Stamps: Lovely Letters Alphabet, Hello Lovely
Ink: Handsome Hunter, So Saffron
Paper: Handsome Hunter, Very Vanilla, non-SU DSP
Accessories: Non

Friday Flashback: Garden Collage
Not quite sure how I did this, but I managed to draw the names of under-used former Sale-a-Bration stamp sets two weeks in a row...today's featured stamp set is Garden Collage from way back in 2005. So here's the mini flashback:
Yep, that's it. There are only three stamps in this set, one of which is a (still-unused) sentiment, but I did use the other image for today's brand new card:
I didn't set out to make a sympathy card, it just happened that way. Probably a good thing though since I hate making sympathy cards when something comes up that I need them, I would prefer to have a couple in my stash. Anyway, I started with this week's SCS color challenge of Marina Mist, Pistachio Pudding, and Always Artichoke, and then I ended up with the Thoughts & Prayers sentiment when it was just what happened to fit the best on the banner that I'd already die cut : ) For the background, I embossed Pistachio Pudding cardstock with the Lacy Brocade EF and then lightly sponged some Marina Mist ink on top.
I did a mirror image of this week's challenge from Freshly Made Sketches:
I had to do it that way because of the direction the bird was facing, it woulda been weird to do it the same way as the original sketch.
That's it for me this week, I hope y'all have a lovely weekend. It's been nice weather lately and I've been stuck studying boring things that will be completely useless to me once this stupid test is over : ( Cheers, peeps!
Supplies, last card only:

Ink: Early Espresso, Pistachio Pudding, Marina Mist, Always Artichoke, Sahara Sand, Blushing Bride
Paper: Pistachio Pudding, Always Artichoke, Very Vanilla, Venetian Romance DSP

Celebrate...Medieval Style
Ready for some fun scrapbook pages?
We went to a costume party in Nottingham last summer; see the original blog post here. The costumes were provided, and I got I think the only "enchantress" dress they had (I was the only one in purple) while a bunch of the other ladies were queens in that Rose Red color. So I found myself a crown and decided I was Morgan le Fay, who was both a queen and an enchantress.
This layout was fun to put together though I wish we had lots lots more DSP with the In Colors, especially Gumball Green which I shall miss when it retires this summer. I got that arrow punch on the SU! clearance rack quite a while ago and this is its maiden voyage. The thing that took the longest on this layout was deciding which Monty Python quote to use in the top left corner : )
Thanks for stopping by today!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Seasonal Sayings, Wing It
Ink: Summer Starfruit, Elegant Eggplant, Raspberry Ripple, Gumball Green
Paper: Raspberry Ripple, Elegant Eggplant, Summer Starfruit, Whisper White, Gumball Green & Summer Starfruit DSP
Accessories: Labels Framelits, arrow punch (retired), hexagon punch

Butterfly Smiles for the Nachos
Howdy friends! Are you ready for another awesome color challenge courtesy of Nacho Average Challenges? I hope so, because here it is:
I thought these colors would be perfect for a little boy birthday card and then...I did something totally different instead : )
I went kinda CAS this week; it's hard to tell in the picture but there's a touch of Marina Mist ink on the little tiny spots along the outside edges of the butterflies' wings. The butterflies were embossed with black EP for a nice crisp look (and also because then I don't have to worry about the black ink bleeding when I watercolor).
Stop by the Nacho blog to see what beautiful projects the rest of the design team has cooked up, and then give it a whirl yourself. Cheers, peeps!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Best of Butterflies (only available until March 31!), Happy Day
Ink: Versamark, Pumpkin Pie, Marina Mist, Wild Wasabi, Baked Brown Sugar (on the butterflies' bodies, if you were like "umm...where?")
Paper: Whisper White, Marina Mist
Accessories: Black EP, rhinestone

Stitching Labels
I've been busy for the past couple weeks either working on tea party prep, or studying for my exam retake, or down with a headache (yeah, that lasted three whole days, it was awesome) so I haven't been doing much stamping other than my weekly Nacho cards and Friday Flashback stuff...everything else has been using some draft posts I had (including today's post). My other hobby has kinda fallen by the wayside too, which is cross stitching.
And today I'll show you how my stamping and stitching hobbies converge. If you've ever checked out my other blog, you've most likely seen progress posts on my stitching projects (click here to see). I'm currently working on four very large projects in rotation, so at the beginning of every month I switch to a different project. I've got four floss cases, one for each project, plus two cases of shared colors, but I thought it would be nice to have labels for the individual project cases so I could tell them apart more easily.
I'd had the idea for a long time and finally made them last month, so there they are. I just stamped the first letter of the name of each project and a small image that has something to do with the image I'm stitching. So here's my February project's floss case now:
"Eilonwy" isn't the name of the pattern I bought from Scarlet Quince, it's the name I gave to the fairy in said pattern because "Take the Fair Face of Woman" was far too long and I like the name Eilonwy. I got the name from Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain; Eilonwy is a princess born of a line of enchantresses who talks a lot and is always described as having red-gold hair. The second book in the series was made into a Disney movie, The Black Cauldron, so now I've managed to knit together four of my hobbies in one post. Yay me.
Have a great week, y'all!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Morning Post Alphabet, Rain or Shine, Papillon Potpourri, Best of Sale-a-Bration, Artistic Etchings
Ink: lots of different ones, I'm not even gonna try to remember
Paper: Whisper White
Accessories: Deco Label Framelits

Friday Flashback: Best Blossoms
It's Friday Flashback time! This week's randomly chosen retired stamp set is Best Blossoms, a Sale-a-Bration stamp set from several years ago (probably back when it was still called Sell-a-Bration). I think that I tend to use the SAB stamp sets much less frequently than the main catalog ones, probably because they're current for such a short time, so today's Flashback is once again on the short side.
Horrible picture, it's very old. So there's my one previous card with Best Blossoms, I kinda like how I did the color in the flower centers. Here's my new one:
There's a larger flower in the set that I was trying to use around the punched-out sentiment, but I couldn't get it to work right so I went back to the trio of small flowers instead.
I turned to the latest challenge at Freshly Made Sketches for inspiration today:
And also the color challenge at Inkspirational, how could I resist when green and purple are my two favorite colors?
So that's it for me this week, folks. I didn't study as much as I wanted to yesterday because I had a dog not feeling well and then I got a giant headache...little boy dog seems to be doing better today but my headache has stuck around. Bleargh!
Hope y'all have a great weekend free of headaches and dogs who don't feel well. Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies, last card only:
Stamps: Best Blossoms
Ink: Almost Amethyst, Pistachio Pudding, Concord Crush (stamped off once)
Paper: Almost Amethyst, Pistachio Pudding, Whisper White, retired Concord Crush DSP
Accessories: Deco Label punch, Dimensionals

Okinawa Highlights
I spent a good chunk of the day yesterday working on tea party decorations with my two cohosts, I think this tea party is going to be really awesome :) Fear not, I shall be posting our decorations on here in due course, but that's for later.
My friend (and tea party cohost) Jen asked to see some of my Okinawa scrapbooks yesterday, so with that on my mind I thought I'd share an Okinawa layout I did a while back.
The photos are from when hubs' parents visited us, so we did all the usual tourist stuff--Churaumi Aquarium, Peace Prayer Park, pedicures at Cocok's with the Silent K (just me and hubs' mom, not the boys, they went golfing), Cape Zampa lighthouse and Shuri Castle. I have (or will have) separate layouts for all those locations elsewhere in our scrapbooks so I kept this one just a highlight reel.
Since I pretty much took Monday and Tuesday off from studying, I'd better get with it today. Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies:
Stamps: By the Tide
Ink: Always Artichoke, Basic Black marker
Paper: Marina Mist, Always Artichoke, Primrose Petals, Very Vanilla, Haiku DSP
Accessories: Modern Label punch, old Sizzix alphabet

Teatime with the Nachos
Happy Tuesday! Are you ready for another Nacho sketch challenge? Here it is!
I'm pretty sure I've mentioned here that I'm planning an Alice in Wonderland-style Mad Hatter tea party for later this month (eek, still so much left to do!). Last year I planned it all by my onesies but lucky for me this year I have two cohosts! So I needed a couple of tea-riffic thank you cards.
Honestly I'm not sure I like Tempting Turquoise with Coastal Cabana...I know, usually greens and blues are like peanut butter and jelly, but...I don't know about this one. Hmm. Well, it was an older color challenge from Splitcoast.
Go check out the Nacho Average Challenges blog for more sketchy goodness and then show us what you've got. In the meantime, I'll be drinking some tea while I study : )
Thanks for stopping by!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Tea Party
Ink: Early Espresso, Coastal Cabana, Crisp Cantaloupe, Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Coastal Cabana, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Coastal Cabana DSP, Sweet Sorbet DSP
Accessories: Oval & Windows Collection Framelits, Dimensionals

Copper Clockworks
Guess what? Today for the first time in over a week, I'm sharing something that's not remotely floral. I posted a Clockworks card a while back, and my mom liked it so much she asked me to make one for my uncle's birthday in colors to coordinate with something she made for him. So here's what I did this time:
She said oranges & browns, but I have some old copper EP (long retired by SU!) and thought it would be great for the pocket watch, so I used the copper instead of any orange. I used up a bit of my stash of Brushed Copper cardstock (love that stuff, wish it hadn't retired) and a few copper brads. The inside of the card is lined with Very Vanilla and stamped with the gears like on the envelope. Great thing about clear mount stamps--I put all three gears on one block and then just had to stamp twice instead of six times : )
Hope Mom likes my redo!
