Friday Flashback: All I Have Seen & Heard From the Heart

Hey hey hey, happy Friday and guess what?  I have a Friday Flashback post ON a Friday this time!  When I pulled out All I Have Seen to play with, I decided to make some monochrome cards and used Heard from the Heart for the sentiments, so this flashback post covers both of those sets.

Dang, I didn't write down what colors I used when I made these and now I can't remember.  Pretty sure the card bases are Mint Macaron, Just Jade, and...wow I have no idea for that pink.  I made these cards weeks ago and I can't remember what I used!  Note to self, write down the recipe when I make the cards...

Oh well, whatever colors I used, I did like how they turned out!  And this is when I discovered my Soft Sea Foam ink pad was totally dried out, and I had to get a new set of ink refills because the last time I bought Subtles ink refills was before the last color refresh.  Soft Sea Foam isn't a color I use much anyway, but at least now I CAN use it.

Cheers, peeps!

Georgia Peach

Howdy, folks!  Today's card marks the maiden voyage for one of my new stamp sets, Sweet as a Peach:

One of my friends (and frequent opponent on Words with Friends) lives in Georgia so I'll have to send this card to her.  Confession:  I don't actually like peaches.  I don't even like peach tea (and you know I love all kinds of tea).  But I just could not resist the Sweet as a Peach stamp set...partially because of the coordinating paper which is gorgeous and will be making appearances on my scrapbook pages for sure.

Anyway, this particular card was inspired by the color combination from As You See It:

You know I love me some autumnal colors!  But I thought they would be just perfect for a peachy card, too.  I inked up the large peach stamp with Crushed Curry, then tapped a sponge on top to get rid of a bit of excess ink (seems like I have to do this pretty frequently with photopolymer stamp sets), and then I used a sponge dauber to add some Calypso Coral ink before I stamped it.  That gave me a two-toned effect on the peach, and then I lightly sponged some Crushed Curry ink so my peach has a bit of a warm haze around it.

And that's all she wrote today.  Hope your day is peachy keen, jellybeans!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Sweet as a Peach
Ink:  Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, Garden Green, Cajun Craze

Fusion Hydrangea

Helly again, friends!  How is your week going?  Hope it's a good one.

Hydrangeas are some of my favorite flowers.  After the hubs and I got engaged, I bought a giant wedding magazine and immediately found a picture of the bouquet that inspired what I carried on our wedding day--hydrangeas and gardenias.  My bouquet was purple, but I love all the colors that hydrangeas come in.  Today's hydrangea card was inspired by the challenge from Fusion:

I took my inspiration just from the picture this time, especially the colors:  Seaside Spray, Soft Succulent, and So Saffron, with Night of Navy as my neutral.  I like that little pop of yellow.

Hope you smile today!

National Lighthouse Day

Mornin' kids, how's it going today?  You may have noticed that I've been having a lot of fun lately playing with my retired stamps rather than just what's new (though who doesn't love new stuff?).  I don't have any SU! customers and no one I send cards to is going to notice or care if the stamps I use are retired :)  And it's great when a challenge comes up and I have the perfect stamp for it!  Like, for instance, the new Festive Friday challenge:

As soon as I saw the inspo list I knew which stamp set to use.  Here's my card:

Pretty sure I acquired Coast to Coast in my first year or two of stamping, so it is now at least fifteen years old and guess what, it still works :p  I kept my card super simple--with an image that big, it kinda limits layout ideas so I went with a classic and just tore the bottom edges of my main image panel and mat because I like that look.  From the challenge inspo list, I used a lighthouse, water (water on the image plus I watercolored it, so I had *literal* water on it), blue, and red.  I was going to put some twine on there but I forgot.

We spent a week in Maine in 2019 and I need to get those photos scrapped.  It was gorgeous!  And we did see multiple lighthouses while we were there, too.  Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Coast to Coast
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, Tip Top Taupe, Sahara Sand, Ruby Red, Terracotta Tile, Soft Succulent
Paper:  Blue Bayou, Tip Top Taupe, Thick Basic White, Ruby Red DSP
Accessories:  Dimensionals

Oh yeah, guess what?  The Festive Friday team chose my card as one of their faves for the last challenge.  Thanks, y'all!

Water Baby

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Actually I haven't been doing much scrapping lately; I've been more focused on playing with my retired stamps, but that's okay.  As long as I'm spending time in my craft room and getting inky, and ENJOYING it, I'll call that a win.  But I do still have lots of layouts to share and when I start to run low I'm sure my scrappy mojo will return.

Yep, this kid loves the water!  Still does, in fact.  Wish we hadn't missed doing swim lessons last year and this year (thank you 'Rona) but hopefully we'll figure out something.  I want Ryan to be much more proficient at swimming than I am; I didn't learn how until I was 12 and while I can keep myself afloat, I am not very comfortable in the water and you can forget about me swimming in the ocean.  Anyway, we got Ryan this super cheap plastic pool and he loooooooooooved playing in it!  I found some long-retired DSP with bright colors that I thought paired well with the pictures.  Dang, Ryan was so little!

And here is my mostly retired color palette:  Only Orange, Green Galore, Pixie Pink, Tempting Turquoise, and Whisper White.  All of those colors are retired now!  Okay Whisper White got replaced by Basic White which is pretty much the same ;) But all the other colors retired a long, long time ago.  But I still use them.

Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Taffy Alphabet, Simply Circles
Ink:  Tempting Turquoise, Blueberry Bushel, Green Galore

Butterfly Wishes

Mornin' y'all!  How's your week going?  For the past two days, it has been really slow at work so I've been stitching a lot while I mind the store...I really shouldn't stitch all day because it hurts my wrist after a while, but I just couldn't stop yesterday until I finished the page I was on in the pattern.  Woo!  And then last night I got a wee bit of time to stamp while Ryan was in the tub, so that's always nice.

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch for my card:

Butterflies were the first thing that popped in my head when I saw it, so I thought I'd use some of the Brilliant Wings dies that I hadn't used before.  You can't tell from the way I took the picture of the card, but I only stuck down the butterflies' bodies; their wings stick up a bit from the card front, and I painted them all with Wink of Stella because I love that stuff.  I had a two-inch strip of the Butterfly Bijou DSP left over from a previous card, so I just tore the edges of it.  This card came together fast, gotta love that.

Hope you've had a great week, peeps.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Biggest Wish
Ink:  Calypso Coral, So Saffron
Paper:  So Saffron, Pretty Peacock, Basic White, Butterfly Bijou DSP Stack

Unconventional Bees

Unconventional Bees is my next new band name, what do you think?  As it happens, I have two cards to share today with unconventional bees.

It irks me regularly that we don't have Coastal Cabana Stampin' Blends.  I know we have Bermuda Bay, but it is just not the same...I colored the bee's wings with a regular ol' marker and then I covered them with lots of Wink of Stella to draw attention away from how the marker coloring looked :p  I was inspired to ink up the long-retired Pun Intended stamp set thanks to the Paper Players theme challenge:

I like to check out a bunch of challenges at once and sometimes multiple challenges get stuck together in my head, which is how I ended up with a bee with colors not found in nature.  I found this combination in the Global Design Project color challenge:

I love these colors together and I thought they'd make a fun and different bee card.  This is actually the second card I made for these two challenges, but I wasn't sure how much I liked my first card:

For one thing, my Night of Navy ink pad is ridiculously juicy right now so these images weren't quite as crisp.  I still need more practice with the blending brushes, too.

That's it for me today, y'all.  Have a good 'un!

Supplies, first card:
Stamps:  Pun Intended
Ink:  Night of Navy, Coastal Cabana, Polished Pink, Polished Pink Stampin' Blends

My New Squirrel Buddy

Mornin' y'all!  How's your week going?  After two days of spending hours in my craft room, I have to go to work today :p  That's okay though, for the most part I enjoy my job.  And in the meantime I have a new card to show off!  I mentioned yesterday that I just got a boatload of new patterned paper (TEN packs!!!); I also got one new stamp set from the upcoming holiday mini catalog.  Behold my new friend:

Isn't he just totally ridiculously ADORABLE?!  There's another squirrel in this stamp set too but I only used one today.  I also used the Beauty of the Earth DSP, one of my new acquisitions thanks to the DSP sale going on now.  I used the Inspire. Create. sketch:
This is such a classic sketch, I love it.  The Hippo & Friends dies were sitting out next to my Big Shot and lo and behold, I found one that was the perfect size for my new amigo.  I used one of the sentiments from the set on the inside of the card, and it says, "Hope you're feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!"  (I just neglected to take a picture of the inside of the card.)

Better get my bright eyes and bushy tail ready to go to work.  Cheers, pals!

SUO Challenges: Christmas in July

Goooooood morning stampy friends!  It is supposed to be a very warm day in Germany today, but at the moment it is cool enough in my house that I've got a giant mug of hot tea in front of me and that always makes me happy :) And if that's not enough, today is the day for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around we're doing Christmas in July cards and projects!  I got a bunch of stuff from last year's holiday mini catalog that I ended up not getting to use (sadface) but for today's card I chose to use Poinsettia Petals, which is now in the main catty, and the Heartwarming Hugs DSP that is back for another go-round in this year's mini catalog.  Take a look:

I had zero plan when I sat down to make this card, I just thought hey let's emboss some poinsettias on red cardstock and see where that takes me next.  I did the sentiment in gold to add a little glitz because hey, Christmas.  This year's holiday mini catalog debuts for everyone on August 3 and I'm plotting what stamp sets and bundles I just have to get :D  I only preordered one stamp set but I did buy a TON of DSP, which I just got delivered yesterday, woo!  So now I need to run back upstairs and go play!

Put on some Christmas carols if that's your jam, and share your holiday creation over at the SUO Challenges blog.  Cheers, peeps!

July 2018

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Ugh, I stayed up too late last night.  I should know better but I was working on my stitching and watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars and oops, it's eleven o'clock.  Oh well, today starts a new week and I've got a scrapbook layout to share!

Sometimes it's challenging to come up with a monthly layout that incorporates as many pictures as possible and find a color combination that works with all the pictures.  I do a LOT of bright blue, so this time I decided to focus on the bright orange lion shirt and the green dragon one for something a little different.  So not your typical red, white & blue for July, but I did use stars for accents.

I do love these colors together:  Tangelo Twist, Daffodil Delight, Call Me Clover, and Whisper White.  Very summery!  Oh, after a couple of weeks of lovely weather in the 60s/low 70s, it is warming up this week to low 80s.  Hope it doesn't get warmer than that since we don't have AC.

Have a great week, peeps!

Bamboozled

Hey y'all!  I couldn't let this week's Freshly Made Sketch pass me by so here's the card I made yesterday:

As soon as I saw the new SU! catalog, I knew I'd be getting Bamboo Beauty on my first order.  I'm pretty much a sucker for any Asian-inspired stamp sets since we lived in Japan for a couple of years.  Plus it's just so pretty!  Here's the sketch I used:

I should have stamped the sentiment up a leetle bit higher, oops.  For the rectangular panel, I inked up one of my acrylic blocks with Sahara Sand ink and then because my ink pad is still very, very juicy, I used a sponge to pick up the excess ink before I stamped it.  Then I just stamped the bamboo and sentiment on top of it, easy peasy.  I'm loving the color combination of Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen, and Sahara Sand!

Okay, I've got to get several boxes ready to ship out today so I'd better get started.  Cheers, y'all!

Stamps:  Bamboo Beauty
Ink:  Sahara Sand, Soft Succulent, Evening Evergreen

Snail Mail

Mornin', y'all!  I did NOT want to get up this morning--I didn't sleep too well last night and I am having issues with allergies lately.  Moving at a snail's pace this morning and I was very grateful that today's workout was yoga and not cardio :)

Oh hey look, there's another snail!  I resisted this stamp set bundle and its coordinating DSP mightily, but then I saw one particular card by Brian King and oops, that snail suite came to my house.  I only made two cards yesterday, but I did make other progress--I have so many die sets and punches now that it can be challenging to remember the name of the dies that go with a particular stamp set, so I got some Avery stick-on labels and I wrote the name of the die set and stuck it on the inside of the stamp case.  I only did the dies yesterday (which still took probably a couple of hours) and I'll just slowly work on marking the coordinating punches.

Anyway!  Back to the card.  I loved this week's Color Throwdown (don't I say that every week?):

I used Night of Navy, Pool Party, Just Jade, and Magenta Madness for my colors.  I wanted to do Coastal Cabana, but there aren't any coordinating Blends for that, so that's why I subbed in Pool Party.  I paired that with the sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches:

Once again I used Watercolor Shapes for the square/diamond shape as a backdrop for my snail.  I colored in the heart on his snail mail with Magenta Madness, and once I added the greeting in the same color I had to add a few Enamel Dots to complete the visual triangle.

I'd better go get cleaned up so I can get Ryan to daycare and then I'm going to try to be productive today.  Well, I was productive yesterday, but I hope to create more stuff today rather than doing organization and housekeeping my craft room ;p  Peace out, peeps!

I'll Be There For You

Hey y'all!  How's it going?  Have you ever sat down to make something and you've got so many competing ideas in your head that it's hard to get even one out on paper?  That's what happened to me today.  I have so many awesome challenges that I want to play in that it was hard to focus enough to choose what to do first.  But here's what I ended up with:

Biggest Wish is a brand new stamp set and we're going to be friends; Flower Patch is an old retired set and we're still friends :)  For the sketch I used (more on that in a minute), I needed a big, bold focal point, and Flower Patch was a natural choice for that.  I also dragged out some long-retired DSP.  The sentiment strip is up on Dimensionals, and the flower is up on an additional layer of Dimensionals.  This card happens to be going in a package so I didn't have to worry about keeping things flat for the post office.

This is for two challenges.  First up is Festive Friday:

I chose to use a friendship sentiment, rhinestones, and pink (Polished Pink looks dark in my photo but I promise it's pink!).  I chose the purple and yellow colors because I was thinking of the door of Monica's apartment on the TV show Friends; plus Highland Heather and Daffodil Delight look pretty good with Polished Pink.  Next up is the awesome sketch from As You See It:

I did opt to put my sentiment on the long skinny panel rather than on top of the focal point.  And for some reason I could not get the DSP layer on my card straight...oh well, I'll chalk that up to the charms of being handmade!

Okay, I'd better skedaddle back to my craft room and see if I can channel some creative chaos into cards.  Cheers!

Friday Flashback: All Adorned

It's Time Warp Tuesday!  Continuing on with my quest to make cards with every stamp set I own, today's set is All Adorned.  It was a Sale-a-Bration set a few years ago and to be honest that's the only reason why I own it.  The sentiments are okay, but I don't much care for the other stamps that you're supposed to use two-step stamping style to build designs...they just don't line up right for me with this particular set.  See the second card:

Also now I believe it when SU! said the Purple Posy ink kept drying darker/a different color than the cardstock, because they do not look the same on that card either.  I don't like that one at all, but I do like the card on the left--remember when I did the set of cards for Ain't Love Grand?  I had all these skinny strips of patterned paper left so I used five of them for the Best Ever card here.

I pulled out the Love Blossoms stack to make this pair of heart-y cards, and that's all she wrote for this stamp set.

Have a great day, peeps!

Wilmington

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Are you ready to start a new week?

Today I have two layouts to share, from Ryan's first trip to the beach--Wilmington, NC in May of 2018 (so he was a year old plus a few months).  At the time we lived about an hour and a half away so we just did a day trip for Ryan to experience the beach.

I love the picture of his little feets in the sand :)  I busted out my old favorite Ocean Commotion stamp set and fussy-cut the fish, seahorse, and shells for page accents.

Let's not forget to mention how I dressed Ryan in a shark shirt, haha!

Today's beachy color palette (sorry this picture is dark) includes Tip Top Taupe for sand, Coastal Cabana and Blueberry Bushel for sky and water, with a wee bit of Peach Parfait for accents and Night of Navy for the title and journaling.

Have a great week, peeps!

Stars & Stripes

Hey y'all, happy Friday!  It was a busy day today so while I made this card this morning, I just now got a minute to post it here.  And in between this morning and now, this card has already made it to its recipient...my hubs : )

Unfortunately I didn't get a really good picture of it; the circle element is Night of Navy, NOT black.  I have both stars and stripes for the Paper Players challenge:

And I followed the sketch from Make the Cards:

Somehow my simple card design ended up requiring three different sets of dies but only one stamp, ha.  Anyway, I'm very glad I managed to play in both of these challenges today, I always love stars and stripes and a good sketch.

Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Chickadee

Hey y'all!  With being out of town for the holiday weekend and then working Tuesday and Wednesday, today was my first chance to stamp in a week.  I only got one card made, but I think it turned out nicely and it's for four different challenges, so that ain't too bad!

This would have been a fairly quick card if it weren't for fussy cutting the bird image.  Coloring it in took a little time too, but it was definitely the cutting that made this time consuming :)  Check out this week's Color Throwdown:

I used So Saffron/Crushed Curry, Smoky Slate, and Memento Tuxedo Black for my colors, with a little bit of Ivory, Petal Pink, and Soft Sea Foam on the bird image.  I went with a thank you sentiment for the Inspire. Create challenge:

One can always use more thank you cards, am I right?  I chose the birds for the Global Design Project theme challenge:

Plus I thought the birds would stand in nicely for the three diamond shapes on this week's Freshly Made Sketch since they kinda overlap a bit:

At first I was trying to put the sentiment underneath the birds, but in the end I decided it worked better above and to the left a bit.  I cut out the cloud border from the Basic Borders dies and used it as a mask for some subtle clouds behind the birds; it actually looks a bit better in real life than in the photo (I could not get it to show up right in a picture).  The birds are popped up on Dimensionals, but this will still go through the post office machines no problem, which is always a plus.

Hope you're having a good week, peeps.  I'm going to see if I can get anything else done before I have to pick up the spawn...cheers!

SUO Challenges: Designer's Choice

Mornin', y'all!  We just got home last night after spending a long weekend in the Alps, it was AMAZING.  I have hundreds of photos to sort through!  We've got a busy week ahead too and today it's time for a new challenge from SUO Challenges!

This time it's super easy: Designer's Choice!  So you can pick absolutely anything your lil heart desires as long as it's Stampin' Up! only.  For the last month or so I've seen poppies in bloom along the roads on my way to work, so I let that inspire my card:

I die-cut the large panel and then used some extra-large Post-It Notes to mask off the edges before I applied ink with blending brushes.  The poppies are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black and I just colored them in with (naturally) Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends.  This card should already be at its destination in Texas!

So now it's your turn to make something pretty!  Be sure to share it with us at the SUO Challenges blog.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Painted Poppies, Peaceful Moments
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Poppy Parade, Balmy Blue, Pear Pizzazz, Whisper White craft ink, Poppy Parade Blends

Old Car City #3

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope you had a good holiday weekend.  I've got the last two Old Car City scrapbook layouts to share today, and this time I didn't use ANY stamps.  Gasp!

I like the Garage Gears dies that coordinate with the recently-retired Geared Up Garage stamp set.  I die cut them out of cardstock colors from my established color palette and then aged them a bit with some sponged-on Chocolate Chip ink.

Told ya I liked to take pictures of the emblems on the card, have a whole bunch of hood ornaments!

Once again, my trusty rusty color palette:  Taken with Teal, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Creamy Caramel, and Very Vanilla.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Turtle Power

Hey y'all!  Happy Friday and happy birthday to my mom!  I stayed up way too late last night making a card because I finally got NEW STUFF and I just couldn't wait any more to bust it open and make something.  Seriously, my new catty order took TWENTY-SEVEN DAYS to get here after it shipped from SU!  Felt like forever, and then the box arrived covered in some kind of stinky lotion or something.  Lucky for me that almost everything in the box was wrapped in plastic or else cleanable.

Anyway, new stamps!!

I am an absolute sucker for animal stamp sets!  I've bought several retired ones lately like Yukon, Cold Weather Friends, Wolf, and Wilderness Reserve, and I got Turtle Friends and the new big cats stamp set on my first order from the new catalog.  I had to use this turtle for the Color Throwdown:

I used Gorgeous Grape, Bermuda Bay, and Granny Apple Green for my colors, love this combination!  And here is this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I made my card the standard A2 size because I just don't like making square cards, which I realize makes me strange but I don't care.  I used another new stamp set, Watercolor Shapes, for the square behind my turtle.  That stamp set doesn't look like anything special but I think I'll be using it on the regular for things like this--it's standing in for a layer on the sketch.  Fun, right?

Anyway, I'd better get my workout done and get ready for the day.  Hope you have a great holiday weekend, peeps, and stay safe!
