A Purple Hippo for Mimi

Hey y'all!  Today I've got another card that Ryan and I made together.  Earlier this month he asked to make a card for my mom (his Mimi) so this is what we did:

He knows his Mimi loves hippos, so that's what he chose for the main image.  He stamped the purples on the hippo and did the sentiment; I stamped the hippo's face and helped him line up the dies to cut everything out.  Then we worked together to stick everything down and Ryan dictated a message for the inside, which was pretty much "Mama and I made this together but I did the most of it."  Ha!  I sent it off the day after we made it, so she's already received it.

Ryan is five, so it is still an exercise in patience to have him in my craft room, but I do try to let him play in there with me on occasion because I don't want to stifle his creativity.  But he's only allowed in there with supervision :)

Have a great day, peeps!

Guest Designer: CC&S Triple Sentiment

Hey y'all, second post for me today and it's my last card as a Guest Designer for CAS Colours & Sketches.  I've had so much fun this month, thank you for this opportunity!  Today's challenge is a sketch:

Fun, right?  I thought about it for a while and had lots of ideas (just wish I had time to try them all!) and I made this:

Believe it or not, this is the first time I've used any of the New Horizons DSP from the Occasions catalog that everyone else is so crazy about.  I do like it, I just hadn't gotten around to using any of it before now!  I decided I wanted some subtle color variation on the three rectangles for the sentiments, so I chose a pretty Pale Papaya pattern.  The "thank you" is stamped in Evening Evergreen (I think my ink pad needs a refresh) and I cut out a floral spray from the Honeybee Blooms dies also in Evening Evergreen.  My card base is the retired color Pistachio Pudding.

Dear SU!,
Please replace Soft Sea Foam with Pistachio Pudding in the permanent color lineup.
Sincerely, Me.

I think Soft Sea Foam is just too close to nothing for a color--if my stamps aren't super squeaky clean and I ink up with Soft Sea Foam, it comes out looking like Dirty Dishwater.  Not appealing.  Pistachio Pudding, on the other hand, is only like one shade darker and it's so much prettier.

Anyway, enough chatter about color woes.  I hope you'll mosey on over to the CAS Colours & Sketches blog and play along with the challenge.  Have fun!

Stamps:  Happy & Heartfelt
Ink:  Evening Evergreen
Paper:  Pistachio Pudding, Evening Evergreen, New Horizons DSP

SUO Challenges: Big Words

Happy Tuesday y'all!  This is my first post of the day, stay tuned for the second one that will be coming up in a couple of hours.  Right now, it's time for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around, we're asking you to focus on sentiments, so bust out the word stamps!  Here's my card:

Ryan actually did the stamping for me but lost interest before we got to the die cutting part, haha.  I love Sunny Sentiments, another stamp set on the retiring list; I was going to use the sunny thoughts stamp with the Sunshine & Rainbows DSP stack from Sale-a-Bration, but then this thank you caught my eye.  Since it has the word "heart" in it, I thought it would pair well with the Valentine DSP from the Occasions catalog...did you forget all about that paper as soon as Valentine's Day was over? ; ) Yeah, me too.  But here's proof that it works for things other than Valentines!

Hope you'll hop on over to the SUO Challenges blog and share a card with us!

Beautiful Scotland

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  After an unintended months-long scrapping hiatus, I actually got a bunch of pages done last week!  Buuuut I haven't taken pictures of them yet, so here's one of the layouts I finished back in January:

These were some miscellaneous pics from our first trip to Scotland in 2011 that didn't really fit on any of the other layouts.  Had to document the first time we had sticky toffee pudding! : )  I kept the layout suuuper simple with most of the photos in a straight line and then some patterned paper from the In the Wild DSP--it's not all tigers and cheetahs!  Love that floral pattern.

Today's color palette:  Gray Granite, Evening Evergreen, Shaded Spruce, and just a wee smidge of Crushed Curry on the patterned paper.

Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Brushwork Alphabet, Letters for You
Ink:  Gray Granite, Evening Evergreen

Paper Players: Sketch on the Side

Hey Paper Players friends!  You ready for a new challenge?

I must admit, Joanne's sketch was a challenge for me!  I had an idea for what I wanted to do and it just did NOT work for me, so I went back to the craft room after a day or two to try again.  Much happier with this attempt, maybe because I used one of my favorite recent stamp sets:

Yep, Artfully Layered for the win!  I've used this bundle several times for design team cards and I just can't stay away from it : )  I let the two Calypso Coral fronds in the background stand in for two of the squares on the sketch, with my Just Jade leaf as the third one.  There are LOTS of beautiful patterns in the Artfully Composed DSP, but I chose that Pale Papaya pattern because I knew it would let my sentiment be legible even stamped on top of the pattern.

I hope you'll create your own sketchtastic card and share it on the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!  As for me, I've got to get packin'...Ryan and I are flying out tomorrow to meet the hubs in London for a couple of days.  I haven't been to the UK since 2014 so I'm looking forward to it!  Did you know the world's largest Lego store is in London?  I'm sure Ryan will be very excited to learn that, ha!  Cheers!

Yo Ho, Jake

Hey hey it's Friday!  And I have a fun card to share today!

I think I have to send this to my honorary niece.  Lately Ryan has been obsessively watching PJ Masks which I absolutely loathe and despise, and then I remembered that my honorary niece used to love watching Jake and the Never-Land Pirates so I convinced Ryan to give it a try.  Now he's running around singing "Yo ho ho" and I haven't had to listen to the PJ Masks theme song in two days.  WINNING.

This is a triple challenge card!  Check out the Hand Stamped Sentiments color challenge:

I thought these watery hues would be good for my pirate, arr.  Next up is the sketch from Fusion:

The inspiration pic is beautiful, but this time I only used the sketch because I was also doing the Festive Friday challenge:

I doubt my peg-leg pirate is much of a dancer, but I did use four of the items on the inspo list:  blue (all the blues!), rhinestones (pirate treasure!), patterned paper (dots and stripes!), and die cuts (had to try out my brand new Stylish Shapes dies from the upcoming catalog!).  I always enjoy playing along with this challenge, I just don't always get the chance.

That's it for me this week, peeps!  Have a great Friday!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pirates & Mermaids

Sunny Cactus Hello

Hey y'all!  Man, it's almost noon here already and I haven't gotten up to my craft room yet, had some things to take care of this morning.  But here I am now with a sunny card to share!

How d'you like my sunny cacti?  I made this for the new Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

I used Magenta Madness, Mango Melody, and Garden Green for my colors.  I think Tangerine Tango would have been closer to the orange on the picture, but when I found that sun print in the Sunshine & Rainbows stack from the most recent Sale-a-Bration, I just *had* to use it with my cacti.  I had originally stamped and die cut the sentiment that says "Hope your day is on point", but it was too large for where I needed it to go on the card...so I stuck it on the inside : )

Hope your day is sunny and bright!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cactus Cuties
Ink:  Versamark, Mango Melody, Magenta Madness, Garden Green
Paper:  Magenta Madness, Thick Basic White, Sunshine & Rainbows DSP Stack

Thoughtful Agapanthus

Mornin' y'all!  How's your week going?  I've gotten to spend some time in my craft room lately so I'm a happy stamper!  And I got the new In Colors, so I had to play with those!

Nope, that's not a new stamp set ; )  It's the long-retired set Best Thoughts, which was a host set back in 2015.  I had pulled it out when I was looking for a different long-retired floral set, ha, and couldn't resist inking it up today.  The flowers look like agapanthus to me, which my exhaustive 20 seconds of Googling reveals should be kind of a blue violet color (so...Orchid Oasis, really) but I just really wanted to play with Sweet Sorbet so I made my flowers pinkish.  Also I'm pretty sure I'm already head-over-heels in love with Parakeet Party, isn't that green GORGEOUS?

Anyway, I'll be entering this card over at Inkspirational:

I had fun watercoloring that big flower image.  I stamped it with Versamark and heat embossed with black EP because my black StazOn ink pad is bone dry and I don't have an ink refill for it yet.

This is also for the Global Design Project theme challenge:

Looking forward to playing more with the new colors.  Have a great week!

Guest Designer: CC&S Christmas Colors

Hi y'all and happy Tuesday!  I'm delighted to once again be doing the Guest Designer thing for CAS Colours & Sketches, and this week it's colors!

The first thing that popped into my head when I saw these colors together was Christmas, so I decided to go with that :) And I'm trying to give my soon-to-retire stamps some love before the new catalog starts in May, so I chose a retiring stamp set and punch and made this:

I stamped two trees and the greeting directly on the Pool Party card base, and then stamped one tree on a scrap of white and punched it out to go in the center.  And there's my first Christmas card for 2022!

Hope you'll join in the fun at the CAS Colours & Sketches blog!

Stamps:  Perfectly Plaid
Ink:  Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler
Paper:  Pool Party, Thick Basic White

New Wheels!

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope you had a good weekend, and a good Easter if you celebrate.  Ryan definitely loved the candy and chocolate--and this year the Easter Bunny gave him more toys than candy, 'cause he's crazy enough without extra sugar ; )

Anyway, I wanted a bright, fun layout to share today, and I found one in the drafts folder!

Pics were taken in August of 2019, when Ryan was 2 1/2.  Oh man, he LOVED that truck!  We still have it, but we haven't gotten it out since we moved here--it's pretty loud, and we don't want to be THOSE people who make tons of noise and act like annoying Americans.  Plus we can't plug it in to charge it since it's 110 and our electricity is 220.  But when we lived in North Carolina, he would tootle around the neighborhood and wave at everyone as he drove past.  When we first got the truck, Ryan was little enough that he had to sit way forward to reach the pedals, and we had to put a 20-lb. weight in the back of it to give it better traction.  He was a pretty good little driver, too.

Today's color palette:  Lemon Lime Twist, Grapefruit Grove, Poppy Parade, and Blueberry Bushel.  Love it!  And now I'm going to go play with my brand new In Colors :)  Cheers!

Stamps:  Big Deal Alphabet, By Land, Shapes & Shadows

Paper Players: April Showers

Happy Easter!  The Easter Bunny snuck into our house last night while Ryan and the hubs were asleep and left a trail of plastic eggs between Ryan's room and his Easter basket downstairs.  In completely unrelated news, I'm tired this morning ; )

But it's still time for an awesome new challenge from the Paper Players!

This immediately made me think of cute umbrellas, and as it happens I have multiple retired stamp sets from which to choose when it comes to umbrellas.  I decided to reach way back to the long-retired Rain or Shine for my card today.

Ryan stamped the bright pink umbrella for me and I did the handle, then cut it out.  And then Ryan got bored of helping my in my craft room so I finished the rest of the card on my own ; )  That cloud pattern from the Sunshine & Sprinkles DSP is one of my favorites and I'm hoarding what I have left, so I designed the rest of the card around that strip of paper.  Ryan wasn't too impressed (everyone's a critic) but I like how it turned out!

We've had some gorgeous weather lately, and on Friday Ryan and I took a bike ride and stopped at the blumen field near our house.  This is where they plant flowers every year and you're encouraged to come pick fresh flowers for your house, dropping money in a little box by the field.  Last year they did tulips first and later in the year there were various other flowers, including lilies (sadly I'm allergic) and sunflowers.  The tulips are in bloom right now!

So Ryan and I tiptoed through the tulips together, and he kept asking for my phone because he told me he is "an excellent picture-taker".

NGL, he did take some good ones ; ) We didn't have any money with us so we just took pictures; we'll have to go out again and pick some tulips for our house.

Anyway, I hope spring is springing wherever you are, and that you'll take the chance to make an April Showers CAS card and share it on the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!  I've gotta go...we're going to do an egg hunt in our yard.  Cheers!

Sympathy Butterflies

Mornin' y'all.  It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and Ryan is home from daycare *again* (possible Covid exposure...again) so I'd better hurry up and write this post so we can go ride bikes : )

Unfortunately I have to send out a sympathy card today; my friend lost her mother this week.

I always hate making sympathy cards, but I do think this one turned out pretty.  I used the Simply Marbleous DSP from the most recent Sale-a-Bration for the card front (it's adhered on a Thick Basic White card base).  I like the marble patterns pretty well, but I really hate the silky ones on the other side so I will almost certainly never use those :p  They're so mid-90s, and not in a good way.

This week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

I thought these soft colors would be good for a sympathy card.  I stamped the butterflies with Basic Gray + Versamark and embossed with clear EP so I could watercolor them.  I tried doing Stampin' Blends markers and the colors were just too bold for what I was going for here.  I used Rococo Rose, Soft Succulent, Wisteria Wonder, and Misty Moonlight, plus Basic Gray for the butterflies.

Have a good weekend, peeps.  I'd better finalize plans with the Easter bunny....

Peachy Keen

Mornin', y'all!  You ready for a sweet little card today?

I bought the Sweet as a Peach bundle and I DON'T EVEN LIKE PEACHES, it was the DSP that sold me on this suite.  And now it's on the retiring list and I feel like I should have used it more.  Oh, I put Pale Papaya rhinestones in the centers of the stamped flowers and they did not photograph well, I promise they look better in person.  For the peach, I inked it up with Pale Papaya ink and then used a sponge dauber to add a bit of Calypso Coral, which gave me some nice color depth on the peach.  When I stamped the flowers, I inked them up with Calypso Coral and used that same sponge dauber to take off a bit of the ink so the images would stamp a little bit softer.

I thought that peach and the coordinating papers would be great for the Hand Stamped Sentiments sketch:

I even found a die with the same shape for the sentiment part :)  The Tasteful Labels dies are also on the retiring list, I don't even know if they're still available or if they're sold out.  I'm glad I've had them for a while.

And another plug for the SUO Challenges theme to use a favorite bundle:

Cheers, y'all!

Tiger Birthday

Hey y'all!  I had Ryan home all day Monday since he had a fever in the morning, and he "helped" me in my craft room.  I do NOT have the patience to do that very often because he has to touch All The Things, but we did get two cards made before his attention span ran out.  So here's one of those!

This is for the Inspire. Create. inspiration challenge:
I jotted down the general sketch and then went up to my craft room with Ryan.  I figured I'd start with some patterned paper, maybe a nice soft floral, but when I showed Ryan the pages in the catalog with the patterned paper he immediately said TIGERS and that's all there was to it.  So we made a tiger birthday card, and I have to admit that I am glad of the chance to use more pieces of these papers as my paper hoard is extremely large ;)  I stamped the greeting (note to self:  I need to ink up my Evening Evergreen ink pad) and lined up the dies; Ryan cranked the dies through the machine and put adhesive on all the pieces, and we worked together to stick everything down.  At the end I added a few Evening Evergreen rhinestones because why not.

This also fits for the SUO Challenges theme to use a favorite bundle!

I enjoy Wild Cats and the rest of the suite associated with that stamp set.  I'd say I'm sad it's retiring, but even if it is retiring that doesn't mean it's leaving my collection.

Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Wild Cats

Guest Designer: CC&S Sketch

Hey hey, it's my second post of the day!  It's time for a new sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches:

Fun, right?  I like it!  My problem this week was narrowing down what I wanted to make with this sketch, so many options!  In the end, here's what I came up with:

I recently acquired the Stitched with Whimsy dies and thought they'd be a good stand-in for the bottom layer on the sketch, a sort of faux layer if you will.  Then I added a strawberry and a sweet sentiment and done!

Upload your card at the CAS Colours & Sketches blog.  Have fun!

SUO Challenges: Bunches of Bundles

Hey hey, y'all!  You ready for a new challenge from SUO Challenges?

This time around, we're asking you to make a card with your favorite bundle (stamps + dies, or stamps + punch, either one) from a current publication.  Now, uh, I don't have a favorite bundle *shifty eyes* okay okay fine I wanted to do something different from Artfully Layered since I already posted two cards with it in the past week, so I thought I'd play with a bundle I haven't used much yet, and I made this:

I used the Hello Ladybug stamps and matching punch for my cute buggies, but instead of traditional (and true to nature) red and black, I decided on pink and navy.  I punched the bug bodies out (which sounds really weird out of context, doesn't it?) of a piece Abstract Beauty DSP, which is a quick and easy way to give them a bit of interest since it's not just flat color.  Also I finally bought the Stitched Greenery die and why did I wait so long?! I love it!  Doesn't it make a great backdrop for my ladybugs?

There are a LOT of bundles from which to choose for today's challenge; I certainly had trouble narrowing down my selection :)  Upload your creation on the SUO Challenges blog and have fun.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Hello Ladybug, Sunny Sentiments
Ink:  Polished Pink, Night of Navy

April 2019

Scrappy Monday, y'all.  I finally feel like I'm improving after being sick for two weeks, but now Ryan is coughing and has a fever, so he's staying home with Mama today.  We'll see how he does "helping" me in my craft room since he is apparently not sick enough to chill out on the couch like I did last week :p

So, anyway, on to today's scrapbook layout.

It's another of my monthly snapshot layouts.  Since the pictures are taken over the course of the month, sometimes it's a challenge to come up with a cohesive color scheme, but here is today's color palette:

Grapefruit Grove, Poppy Parade, Mango Melody, Garden Green, Early Espresso, and Whisper White.  I really like Grapefruit Grove, I enjoy playing with it for color combinations.  I pulled today's color palette out of the fun mushroom DSP.

I'm off to entertain a sick-but-not-that-sick kiddo.  Cheers!

Paper Players: Tropical Colors

Greetings, stampy friends!  Most of the snow from Friday night has melted, but we still have a large pile of it that the hubs shoveled off the driveway and Ryan used for a mini sledding hill yesterday.  We got over six inches of snow...in April!  Crazy.

But enough about that, it's time for some fun new tropical colors courtesy of Ann Marie from the Paper Players!

Fun and bright, right?  I chose black as my neutral and made this:

Yep, Artfully Layered again...I can't help it, I love these tropical leaves.  I actually made this before the card I shared on Friday; in fact, the Coastal Cabana leaf I used on that card was leftover from this one.

Your turn!  Share your colorful card creation at the Paper Players blog, and have fun.  Cheers!

Tropical Celebration

Happy Friday y'all!  I'm happy to say that I'm feeling much better than I was yesterday (perhaps yesterday's 3-hour nap contributed to me feeling better today?) and I spent some time in my craft room today playing with ink and paper.  And water.

I haven't dug out my watercolor paper in a looooong time but I did today!  I do have some green splotches on my hands now but it's all part of the process.  Bee tee dubs, if you're on the fence about the Artfully Layered bundle, just know that it is *not* carrying over to the new catalog, so buy it now ;)  Happy & Heartfelt too, for that matter--it's got great sentiments in a fun and casual font.  I also used the "We have to celebrate this!" on the inside of the card.

Anywha, I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And as per standard, I paired it with the Color Throwdown:

I used Granny Apple Green, Coastal Cabana, and gold foil paper for my colors, plus some white.  And now I have about 30 minutes to work on my current stitching project before I go to pick up the spawn.  Cheers, y'all!

All Ears

Apparently I have bunnies on the brain because today's card features another trio of rabbits.  I guess it's the season for bunnies?

As soon as I saw the inspiration pic at Fusion, I knew I had to dig up this bunny stamp!  The three bunnies and the sentiment are all on one stamp, I just fussy cut the bunnies because I like 'em that way.  Here's the Fusion challenge that sent me down the rabbit hole:

I love it when I see a challenge and know I have exactly the right stamps for it : )   Guess it shouldn't be surprising considering the size of my stamp hoard.  I decided to go with retired colors too and used up some scraps of Tip Top Taupe and Dapper Denim DSP.

Cheers, y'all!

Bonnie Wee Bunnies

Hey y'all, how's it going?  I've been battling some weird cough thing for the last week--it's not Covid (I tested...twice), I think it might be allergies or related to the recent weather fluctuations.  It is just sapping my energy today so here it is 2:30 in the afternoon and I only just got in my craft room at 1:45.  But I made a card!

I brought out a very, very old stamp set for this one, The Gifts of Spring.  I've had this set since 2006 and in fact I used it for my very first upload to my Splitcoast gallery.  How's that for a time warp!

I had to use the sketch from Inspire. Create. before the challenge closes:

And the pastel palette from Global Design Project:

And finally the theme challenge from Cupcake Inspirations:

Okay, I'm going to head back up to my craft room and try to enjoy the rest of my day off, if only this allergy thing would let me alone!  Well, I keep a box of Kleenex up there for a reason I guess...

Achoo!  Allergies are one gift I wish spring would take back :p  Cheers!
