Hulk-Inspired Colors with the Paper Players

Happy Sunday y'all and get ready for a new Paper Players challenge!  I hope you enjoyed Claire's Halloween costume challenge as much as I did,  I am sure you've realized by now that I am all in when it comes to Halloween cards : )  Daphne is still blissfully unaware that I have an entire plastic tub of dog costumes, but she'll be finding out all about that soon!

Anyway, it's time for a new Paper Players challenge and Elizabeth has chosen some great colors for us to play with!

Seriously I was very tempted to make an Incredible Hulk card but I've done that already, so then I made three different purple and green cards and asked Ryan to pick which one I should post today.  He said that made him feel important, but unfortunately I just don't have the bandwidth to make multiple cards for every DT commitment, ha!  Here's the card Ryan chose for me to share today:

Wonderfully Wicked came out in 2019 and I still like to play with it every year, what's not to love about that giant die-cut word?  I still have some Iridescent Ice embossing powder, so I covered the word with that so it's green glittery sparkles and I love it.  I stamped the rest of the message and then had to add some punched bats from Spooky Sweets, another perennial Halloween favorite, and a few Granny Apple Green glitter enamel dots which are also quite old but I bought I think five packs.  I've used a lot of the green and purple enamel dots, I need to make a concerted effort to use up the Melon Mambo and Coastal Cabana ones.

Halloween Spider

Midnight greetings, spooky friends!  How is your October going?  I'm seeing more and more Halloween decorations go up in our neighborhood--we have inflatable decorations including the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus as well as Bluey, which makes my little heart happy.  Ryan says we need twice as many Halloween decorations outside so maybe I'll see if I can get more half-price after the big day.  I saw a duck pirate inflatable (should it be duck pirate or pirate duck?) that he would love.

Anyway, my mom has a giant inflatable spider that she's put in her yard for years, but I prefer spiders to be flat, unmoving, and not alive.  Like this one!

I'm not 100% sure I liked this CASE-ing Tuesday sketch, but I gave it a shot!

I love the Wonderfully Wicked stamp set, but this time I skipped the giant die-cut word and went for the spider and web (usually I go with the cat or the bat since I don't like spiders!) and paired it with a fantastic plaid in Halloween colors.  I should mail this to my mom, who always texts me when she puts on her spider earrings for Halloween.

Halloween Kitty

Today is the day, y'all.  By the time this post goes live, the hubs should be in the operating room for brain surgery.  All prayers and positive vibes appreciated.  I will be up at the hospital until it's time to go pick Ryan up from school.

In the meantime, I have a CAS Halloween card.

That Halloween washi tape is the only washi tape I own, but I thought it would be perfect for the horizontal stripe on the card front.  You can't really see it in the picture (it was super overcast when I took the picture) but the kitty is embossed with shimmery black embossing powder, which ties in nicely with the glittery washi tape.  Also that tag is Lemon Lime Twist, the photo is skewing a bit more yellow even though I edited the photo.

Happy Halloween! 2012

Happy Halloween, y'all!  We'll be taking Ryan out tonight to go trick-or-treating with his cousins.  But first, I have a scrapbook layout from Halloween past to share!

Here's my furbabies dressed up for Halloween.  These costumes were pretty hilarious, even if the "riders" wouldn't stand up right--Sadie was the steed for the Headless Horseman, while Vader's rider was a pretty pretty princess.  The hubs thought I got them backwards, but personality-wise this was 100% correct : )  You can see the original pictures here.  I just put this layout together last week and what took the longest was choosing the colors and where each one was going to go.  What ended up deciding things was the haunted house pattern on the lower left--once I'd chosen that, I settled quickly on an Old Olive page base and small accents of Pumpkin Pie and Highland Heather.  Though I suppose I could have done Highland Heather for the page base.  Ehh.

Today's color palette:  Old Olive, Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather, and Whisper White, plus a bit of Basic Gray/Smoky Slate if you want to get picky about it.

Marshall is all fired up!  His school is doing a storybook characters parade today, so they're allowed to dress in costume and bring a book featuring their storybook character.  Happily he has *lots* of Paw Patrol books from which to choose : )  The costume has a little Pup Pack velcroed to his back AND it has a tail--Ryan was very excited to show me how he can waggle the tail.  Meanwhile I'm wearing purple sweats and I have a purple top hat, so I will be a very comfy Mayor Humdinger and it will be 100% in character for me to steal all of Marshall's candy!  Hey, dogs shouldn't have chocolate anyway, right?

Halloween Ruh-Roh!

Scrappy Monday!  Man, I really need to get on the ball with Halloween costumes for this year.  Ryan said for months that he wanted to be Spider-Man, and then randomly switched gears and now says he wants to be Darth Vader.  And guess who he wants me to be?  Not Princess Leia--he wants me to be Obi-Wan Kenobi so we can have a lightsaber duel.  Okay so a lightsaber duel would be fun but...I'd rather be Princess Leia!  I'm thinking Hoth Princess Leia, because I can dress in warm comfy clothes : )

Anyway!  I just recently finished this layout from Halloween 2019.

This was the year that I chose Scooby Doo for our costume theme and then Ryan's costume was comically large.  He actually wore it last year and I bet that it would still fit this year.  Y'know, my Velma costume was pretty comfy too...

Anyway!  It took some stalking on eBay but I finally got my hot little hands on some Scooby Doo stamps just for this layout.  Actually I already had the "Ruh-Roh!" stamp, but I got two different Scooby stamps.

Today's color palette:  Cucumber Crush, Tangelo Twist, Basic Black, Pineapple Punch, Real Red, and Very Vanilla.  Plus a wee smidge of Soft Suede and Bermuda Bay for Scooby.

Batty for Halloween

A conversation I had on WhatsApp yesterday with my friend Faith:

Faith:  I'm making a Christmas stocking...I have no idea why lol  I'm almost done and I'll prob make another one

Me:  I'm about to make a Halloween card in August.  Crafters gonna craft!

Faith:  Haha!  I wish I had Halloween colors {in yarn} and I'd make Halloween stockings lolol

True to my word, I did indeed make a Halloween card!

I could not resist making a Halloween card when I saw the Festive Friday challenge!

I used bats, night (the gray panel is the night sky with clouds), black, and embossing.  As I was going through my punches last week I found the spooky bats punch and thought it would be perfect for this.  I embossed the sentiment with white EP and originally I was going to just punch the bats out of black cardstock, but then I saw the Shimmery Black EP and of course THAT had to happen, so my bats are fancy!

The cloud stamps are meant to stand in for the circles on the sketch, and then I put the bats on top plus one more for luck.  I'm also entering this at Retro Rubber:

Spooky Sweets was released in 2018, and Wonderfully Wicked in 2019, so they're both nice and retro for this challenge.  Heck, even my polka dot DSP is retro--I found a big scrap of it with my Pumpkin Pie cardstock and thought why not use that :)

Friday Double Feature

Happy Friday y'all!  As it happens, I have two cards to share today.  Here's the first one:

I liked the sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch:

And I paired that with the colors from Color Throwdown:

I used Pumpkin Pie, Gray Granite, and Very Vanilla for my colors, but I didn't want the orange to be overpowering so when I watercolored the pumpkins, I did a wash of Gray Granite first and then just added a tiny bit of Pumpkin Pie.  I usually don't go much for cards with such a muted color palette, so my brain rebelled and I had to make another card:

Okay, so the card base is still neutral, but I used Gorgeous Grape, Pumpkin Pie, and Granny Apple Green to up the fun factor.  I love those colors together for Halloween!  Also I think this sentiment is large and in charge enough to count for the Paper Players challenge:

When Ryan goes down for his nap this afternoon, I'm hoping to do some work on his baby book. I've only got a few pages left and then I'll be done with it!

Three Ghoul Friends

I'm aliiiiiive!  I was busy doing something on Tuesday afternoon and didn't get a card made for Wednesday, and then on Wednesday I was not feeling well at all so no card for Thursday.  Yesterday I actually spent all of naptime cleaning up the house because we have people coming in today, but I did have this one card I made and hadn't shared yet so here it is:

I started this when I was spitballing ideas for Leora's birthday party invitations.  Then we went with the other design so I ripped off the "you're invited" and put on a sentiment from Spooktacular Bash instead.

Anyone have any great ideas for Halloween costumes for me, the hubby, and our 2.5-year-old son?  I got NOTHIN' for ideas this year!

SUO Challenges: Wicked Good Time

Hey there stampy friends!  It's time for a new challenge at SUO Challenges.

This time it's a super easy challenge--Designer's Choice!  Just make a card (or scrapbook page or 3D item or whatever) using only Stampin' Up! products, then share it with us on the SUO Challenges blog.

Here's my card:

This is the invitation I made for my friend Sarah's daughter's birthday party (Leora is a Halloween baby).  I basically remade this card but with more colors--Sarah asked for orange to be the main color to match Leora's cake.  Instead of rhinestones, I used Glitter Enamel Dots in three colors.  The "wicked" is cut out of Gorgeous Grape cardstock and then embossed with Iridescent Ice embossing powder, which is retired.  I could have used the white or black shimmer embossing powder that's current, but we really wanted the word to read as purple, not white or black.  (And I now have glittery embossing powder on EVERYTHING in my craft room!)

Having cut out nearly 40 words, I have a few tips for you if you're interested:

1.  Run it through your die cut machine a couple of times to make sure every bit of it cuts all the way through.
2.  When you take it out, the die cut word will most likely be stuck inside the die still, but the top part of the C tends to pop out a bit when you detach it from the rest of the paper.  You can stick the tip of a paper piercing tool under the top bit of the C and use it to separate the die from the cardstock.  I would go all the way to one end of the word, then go back to the C and go to the other end.  This way you're not trying to poke through the little holes in the die and running the risk of poking a hole in your cardstock.
3.  If you want to emboss the word, what worked best for me (since I did 18 of them) was to cover half the word with Versamark and EP, heat that side to set the embossing powder, and then do the other side.  That gives you a place to hold on to it while you heat set, otherwise it's really easy to send the die skittering across your crafting table without actually melting the embossing powder.  Even if you overlap the EP a little bit in the middle of the word, it won't be noticeable on the finished product.

Halloween Birthday Cat

Hey, y'all.  Well, it's official:  I have succumbed to whatever virus my kiddo and my husband have had.  I'm kinda miserable.  But I gotta keep moving forward!

My friend Sarah's daughter was born on Halloween, and Sarah *loves* Halloween. Sometimes they ask me to make birthday party invites for Leora (I'd be invited, but ever since we all left Japan, it seems like we've been living on different continents!).  So Sarah messaged me yesterday and said Leora wants something with spooky cats.  Here's my first try:

You can't tell from the picture, but the cat is embossed with Shimmer Black embossing powder (it looks really cool IRL).  I used this sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch:

And Sarah sent me a picture of what Leora's cake is going to look like:

I may do some tweaks or go in a different direction depending on what the birthday girl wants (she was already asleep by the time I made my first mock-up for her).  Hopefully I can kick this virus quickly so my creative mojo comes back!

First Halloween Card of the Year

Mornin', y'all!  If I made the first autumn card of the year, you know the year's first Halloween card can't be far behind :D  I got a SUPER cute Halloween stamp set and I have to show it off today!

The "wicked" is a die cut that coordinates with the Wonderfully Wicked stamp set, which has more words (I stamped "Happy Halloween" on the inside) and a spider in it.  I cut out three of the "wicked", adhered one to the card front and stamped around it, and then I embossed one with Shimmery Black embossing powder (which looks really cool IRL, the picture doesn't show the sparkle) and adhered the other two die cut words directly on top of the first one so it's dimensional.  I added some Old Olive rhinestones from the Noble Peacock Rhinestones pack.

I had to make my card landscape since the "wicked" die is juuuust over 4 1/4" wide, so portrait orientation wouldn't work quite right.  Looking forward to making lots more wicked creations with this stuff, and I got another Halloween stamp set too!  And Halloween paper :)  I love me some Halloween stuff!
