Just My Style

Mornin' y'all and happy birthday to my mom!  And I get to spend the day with her too : )  So my card for today is inspired by my mom, who is a seamstress extraordinaire and loves purple:

Okay this is a simple one-layer card (other than the sequins, I suppose) but I had some trouble with it!  I saw the Addicted to CAS code word:

And my brain immediately went to the old, old stamp set Pattern of Friendship with this fun illustration of the two ladies.  I have many fond memories of going to Hancock Fabrics with my mom and looking through all the pretty fabrics and she has tons of patterns with pictures like that.  My problem is that this image is pretty dang big, so how to keep a CAS card when so much of the real estate is taken up by the image.  This was actually attempt #2 and I still went back and forth on if I should stamp the greeting from Haute Couture on a scrap of white and pop it up, but I thought I'd try stamping it over the image in Blackberry Bliss.  So do you like the one-layer look, or is it better like this:

I think either of those is better than my first attempt; if you're curious, here's that:

I was trying too hard to incorporate a color challenge, I definitely like the monochromatic purple better.  So sometimes a card just doesn't quite want to work for me but at least I think I like where I got in the end.

That's it for me today, I'm going to hang out with my mama.  Cheers!

Retro Style

Hey hey, stampy friends!  I had a good birthday yesterday.  Spent hours in my craft room working on a few cards and some scrapbook pages while also doing laundry, because laundry waits for no man :p  The hubs brought home my favorite pizza for me (pineapple and black olive) and we had cake and ice cream too.  Anyway, I do have a card to share today!

The Pattern of Friendship stamp set popped in my head immediately when I saw the Retro Rubber challenge:

I used pastel pink, pastel yellow, and I'm counting Pool Party as a soft turquoise.  I dug up a pair of Stampin' Blends that *claims* to be Pink Pirouette, but when I colored in the lady's dress on the left it looked much more like Blushing Bride to me, so that's what I used for the sentiment circle.  My SIL adores mid-century modern stuff and 50s-style clothes, so I think I know where this card is going :)  Oh yes, my stamp set is super retro:  I got Pattern of Friendship in 2006 so it's probably 13.5 years old now.

Cheers, y'all!

Sewing Notions

Hey y'all!  How's your Friday going?  My card-making for today was marked by a serendipitous confluence of challenges :D  Here's my card:

Very CAS, just white cardstock and seven colors of ink.  So why buttons?  Because of the Retro Rubber challenge:

I typically don't use actual buttons on my cards because it makes them hard to mail, but I have a stamp set that is all button STAMPS and this card is totally flat and mailable.  Button, Button is the name of that stamp set (appropriately), and I've had it since at least 2013, so plenty retro.  The sentiment is from Pattern of Friendship, which is even MORE retro since I got it in 2006.

And for a bit of serendipity, check out the sketch posted by CAS(E) This Sketch yesterday:

It's like they did it on purpose.  I did change mine up to two rows of three buttons rather than three rows of two buttons, because my sentiment was on the taller side.

And for the colors, I turned to the rainbow birds on the Fusion challenge:
These birds are obviously friends, so I thought my sentiment worked as being inspired by them.  I pulled a pastel rainbow of colors from the photo:  Pretty in Pink (retired), Peekaboo Peach (retired), So Saffron, Lemon Lime Twist (freshly retired), Balmy Blue, and Highland Heather.

I couldn't resist adding a stamp to the inside of the card:

I have no idea what I'd need this card for, but it was fun to make anyway!  Hope you have a great weekend, peeps.

Friday Flashback: Pattern of Friendship

Happy Friday, stampers, and welcome to this week's Friday Flashback!  Today's stamp set is Pattern of Friendship, a cute little set that always makes me think of visits to the fabric store with my mom when I was a kid.  So without further ado, let's open the vault, shall we?

I can tell this is a really old picture because it's a scan :)  And it's got Cool Caribbean!  Doesn't that just look great with Elegant Eggplant and Rose Red?  The Cool Caribbean panel is stamped with the Wild Hearts background, which I totally love, and it also reminds me of fabric prints.

This one was made last year for the Dare to Get Dirty challenges on Splitcoast, I think it was something to do with sewing.  Well, I cross stitch a lot, but I can't do a thing with sewing machines, so I faked it with the sewing machine patterned paper :)

And here's today's card!  Once more, I get a teeny step closer to having completed all the Splitcoast sketch and color challenges.  I thought Dusty Durango would be a good redhead color, what do you think?  I always wished I had red hair, I never could understand why Anne of Green Gables hated her red hair.  Ha!  These dresses also make me think of Nancy Drew:  if you look at the illustrations in the old yellow spine books, she wears a lot of things that are this basic pattern.  On the covers of some of the paperback ones, she goes all '90s and wears stirrup pants.  Shoulda stuck with the timeless dresses, Nancy.

Thanks for joining me on today's Friday Flashback, hope you have a wonderful weekend!
