A Friendly Sketch for The Paper Players

Happy Sunday, y'all!  Did you like Ann's food challenge last week for The Paper Players?  We're back again and this week LeAnne has a fun sketch for us:

I decided right off that this sketch would be a great way to showcase some patterned paper, but none of my recent purchases were speaking to me and for some reason I really wanted to do bright colors.  Last year's Friends of the Ocean DSP was exactly what I needed, and here's what I made:

I went through the scraps first and immediately picked that piece in the top left, and as it happened the Pumpkin Pie pattern is the flip side of it.  The lobster was die cut from another pattern because that was easy and I layered it on some seaweed die cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and added a bit of ink for shading.  The only stamping is the greeting from the coordinating Ocean Friends stamp set.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Ocean Friends
Ink:  Summer Splash, Lemon Lime Twist
Paper:  Summer Splash, Lemon Lime Twist, Thick Basic White, Friends of the Ocean DSP
Accessories:  Ocean Friends dies, Rectangles Stitched dies, Stitched Shapes dies, Dimensionals, Sunny Day Iridescent Dots

Crustacean Crew

Mornin' y'all.  Yesterday afternoon Ryan was playing with some other kids in the neighborhood and they found a wolf spider, and then Ryan woke us up TWICE last night because he was having nightmares about giant spiders in his room.  So none of us got a good night's sleep last night except possibly Daphne.

Anyway, I had some quality craft room time last night and I have a couple of cards to share today that I made with Ocean Friends.  Is that still on the Last Chance List or is it gone?

I stamped a colorful lobster for the Color Dare Challenge:

I used Pumpkin Pie, Berry Burst, and Pretty Peacock for my colors.  I chose a watercolor pattern for behind my lobster so I could enter this at Inspire. Create.:

And then I didn't want the crab to feel left out so I had to make another card:

This time I used the colors from Color Hues:

I used Groovy Guava and Blueberry Bushel for my colors, with some Calypso Coral for a darker peach on the crab.  I think maybe I should have used Pale Papaya instead, apparently my Groovy Guava ink pad was still plenty juicy because ol' Crabby came out darker than I expected.  I also used the sketch from As You See It:

I made the three panels larger since I had to accommodate Crabby behind the greeting banner but I think they'll forgive me for altering the sketch a bit.

Okay, time to go get Ryan up and ready for his last day of engineering camp.  Cheers, y'all!

Undersea Friends

Mornin' y'all!  I just finished a lovely restorative yoga class and I've got the kettle on for tea right now so my morning is off to a good start
: )  I took Daph to her group training class last night and she did really well except for when she and the other dogs were supposed to stay in one place while all the people in the class walked around.  She did fine with that until I came up next to her and then she was like "I come too?"  And when she was supposed to stay in one place and all the people went around saying hi to all the other dogs, the look on her face..."Moooooom, I don't know these people and I don't like this!"  Poor Daph-Daph, I had to go rescue her.  Still, she's improved so much!

Anyway.  I have a quick and cute card to share today using mostly the Friends of the Ocean DSP because I like it.

I also like the sketch from Sunday Stamps:

Wanna know a secret?  I didn't have a scrap big enough for the bottom panel of the sketch and I didn't want to cut into a bigger piece of paper, so I took the square scrap I had and made a diagonal cut, spaced out the pieces, and covered the split with the two circles of patterned paper.  Trying to stretch out that paper as far as it will go : )

I'm going to enjoy my cuppa and look at some blogs, and then it's time for other fun things like cleaning the bathrooms.  Joy.  Have a great day, peeps!

Undersea Buddies

Mornin' y'all.  Once again I stayed up too late last night finishing a book : )  At this point, I'm pretty sure I will never learn my lesson on that score.

Anyway, I have a card to share today that I made last week and didn't post:

This was a super quick and simple card for the CASE-ing Tuesday Sketches challenge on Facebook:

And here's the original card from the mini catalog:

Anyway, I got up late today since it's the start of Ryan's second week of spring break, but we will be working on his research project later today.  And I need to go to the store...as soon as I figure out what we're having for dinner.  In the meantime, I'm going to do my workout and then take Daph out for a walk as it's going to be a beautiful day.  Cheers, y'all!

Friendly Sea Turtle

Mornin' y'all!  I continue my streak of bedtime-related bad choices, but last night it was a book : )  Some things haven't changed since I was a wee young lass.

I had a very lovely and productive day in my craft room yesterday and here's one of the cards I made:

I started with this week's Freshly Made Sketch, but I thought that maybe the bubble stamps on the background didn't quite read as three panels, so I ended up making another card for that sketch (to be released soon).  I used the TGIF Challenges colors:

And it occurred to me that since Sea Turtle is two years old, I can enter this card at the Retro Rubber Challenge too:

I used a greeting stamp from the not-retro Ocean Friends just because a.) Sea Turtle doesn't have any greetings and b.) Ocean Friends was already on my crafting table.  And now I have yet another sea turtle card to send to my friend Missy : )

Time to get Ryan to school and then I have errands to run this morning.  Cheers, peeps!

Stamps:  Sea Turtle, Ocean Friends
Ink:  Summer Splash, Granny Apple Green, Fresh Freesia

Undersea Friends

Mornin' y'all!  Ryan is on a two-hour delay for school today so he's got about another half hour before we have to get ready to go.  Tomorrow is a 3-hour early release and at this point I think I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times this school year that he's gone to school five full days in a row, Monday through Friday in a single week.  Ugh.

Anyway, I have some undersea critters to share today.

I finally used the Ocean Friends stamps!  I got some (probably dog) hair on the stamp, you can see on the lobster's claw, but I kinda liked the effect on there, I thought it gave him some personality.  Check out the colors at CAS Colours & Sketches:

Now, I don't like Poppy Parade and Melon Mambo together so to be honest I was going to skip this challenge until I saw Amanda Mertz's card where she used Ocean Friends with these colors.  So thanks for the idea, Amanda!

I'm also using this week's CASE-ing Tuesday Sketch:

I left my card base plain since the color challenge is also CAS.  And then I was left with a scrap of the Melon Mambo patterned paper with a circle cut out of it and I couldn't just toss it, so...

I made a crabby card too!  Same colors, just switching up the layout since I was using the negative of the circle die cut.  And this card gives more separation between the Melon Mambo and Poppy Parade, which is good.

So two undersea friend cards that came together pretty quickly.  Gotta love that.

I'm going to enjoy my morning cuppa before I wrangle Ryan off to school.  Cheers!

Sketchy Duo

Mornin' y'all.  I woke up not feeling too hot again this morning so I'm moving slow.  Might need a nap today, but right now I'm having my morning cuppa while Daphne eviscerates the toy I just bought her at the store this morning.  She's having a good time (and making a mess) and at the rate she's going, the remains of that toy will be in the trash before the hubs or Ryan get home today.

Anyway, I have two cards today.

More Technicolor toadstools because I love them : )  I have another toadstool card coming up soon, it's already made and photographed.  Check out the Atlantic Hearts sketch:

I admit I kinda ignored the doily element on the sketch and just used some DSP.  Next up is the TGIF Challenge:

The Toadstool Gardens DSP Stack is probably my favorite thing from the SAB catalog, and I used the purple sequins from there too.

And now a bonus card with the same sketch:

I have yet to actually stamp the crab or the lobster from this set, I keep die cutting them from the DSP : )  I used more of the sequins on this one.

There's my sketchy duo.  I like the cherry colors on both of them.

Time to take Daphne the Destroyer out for her tour of the neighborhood.  Cheers, y'all.

Feelin' Crabby

Hey y'all, we are officially a House of Plague now, Ryan has a fever today so he'll be staying home with me.  I'm feeling better than I was on Monday, but still not 100%, so we're going to have a rot on the couch day.  Maybe I can talk him into watching The Princess Bride.  I like that idea.

The hubs called yesterday to check on me and at the time I was just sitting in my craft room doing nothing but listening to a podcast.  Eventually I mustered up the energy to work on something and I made this:

Lookit me, making good on my resolution to use patterned paper!  The starfish and the stripes are the two sides of one sheet, and my crab was die cut out of another.  The only stamping is the greeting.

Here's the Atlantic Hearts sketch that I used:

The greenery on the sketch made me think of that coral die cut in the Ocean Friends bundle so that's what I went with.  Plus I just love the bright colors in the DSP, even though my photo came out a bit dark...I need to see if I can find a better place to photograph my stuff, I don't think I have an OttLite anymore.  Maybe I'll check the light coming in the guest room window on the front side of the house.

Anyway, that's it for me today.  I might still get some crafty time if Ryan is resting or playing video games, we'll see.  In the meantime, stay healthy, y'all!

Crabby Lobster

Hey hey, how's it going?  I managed to put another coat of paint on the pantry yesterday, though it did require two trips to the paint store, and we've covered up all the spots that didn't get covered enough with the first two coats and it looks pretty good.  So today's task is to get everything back in the pantry and organized so tomorrow I can spend the day in my craft room : )

I got a big fat SU! order in yesterday and after unpacking everything, I got one quick card made to share today.

I really tried to resist the Friends of the Ocean suite and then I was like okay I'll just get the paper and the Sunny Day Iridescent Dots and by the time I hit confirm on my order the stamps and dies had jumped in there too.  So for this one it's really the DSP and the dies doing the heavy lifting--the only stamping is the greeting, while the crab and lobster are die cut from the Friends of the Ocean DSP and the seaweed is Lemon Lime Twist cardstock that I added a bit of sponging to for dimension.  I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I like the bold patterns in this pack of DSP and this sketch let me show off a couple of them, fun!  And this card is going out in the mail today, actually in about five minutes when I take Daph out for our walk because I'm going to drop it in the mail on our way out.  It's 17* outside and she can't wait to go.  That girl loves her some snow.

Aright, time to take her out.  At least she usually wants to go fast enough that I don't get too cold, and then I can make me a nice giant cuppa tea when we get back before I tackle the pantry.  Cheers!
