Conwy Castle

Mornin' y'all, and Scrappy Monday!  The temperatures here in Colorado dropped over 20 degrees over the weekend and I am LOVING the fall nip in the air : )  (Hubs is obviously whining that summer is over but tough luck for him!)  We had some blustery weather and gray skies over the weekend so I picked a scrapbook layout that matches:

This was one of the last couple of castles we visited on a week-long road trip through Wales in 2014 just before we left England.  Conwy Castle is one of the larger ones we visited and it is smack dab in the middle of town.  I absolutely loved visiting Wales and wish that we hadn't left it to the very last of our time in the UK; we got a Wales Explorer pass to visit all the castles and historical sites but we didn't do things like go to Snowdonia.  The hubs said all the castles kinda blended together by the end, but that's not surprising considering that several of the ones we saw were commissioned by Edward I in his campaign to crush the Welsh so they share a lot of design features.

Anyway, today's more subdued color palette is Blue Bayou (kickin' it old skool with a very retro In Color!), Perfect Plum, and Wild Wasabi.  I managed to squeeze in 10 pictures, some patterned paper, title and journaling blocks and a stamped accent.  Pretty good for two 12x12 pages.

Caernarfon

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I had a lovely Saturday working on a couple of projects, watching a movie (it's rare I get control of the TV when Ryan is in the house), and reading a book.  Pretty good day in my opinion.  I picked Ryan up yesterday morning and he was so tired from having run around with his cousins that he mostly camped out on the couch : )

Anyway, I have a layout to share today, from our 2014 road trip through Wales where I dragged the hubs to as many castles as I could manage.  And today is the Welsh castle you're most likely to recognize:

This was the site of Charles' investiture as Prince of Wales, I wonder if/when they're going to do something similar for Prince William?  It's another large castle and similar to several others we saw in Wales; I always think it's funny to see a centuries-old giant castle nestled right up next to a parking lot (car park) with modern cars in it.

I used my all-time favorite sketch to make this layout, and only realized afterwards that I had used the same layout for my Beaumaris pictures and they're right next to each other.  Oops.  Well, that's what happens when I don't scrap my pictures in chronological order, I forget that I used that sketch already!  Oh well, I like both of the layouts so they're staying the way they are.  I even used a pink and a green in the same spots on both layouts!

Today's fun color palette:  Lemon Lime Twist, Calypso Coral, Garden Green, and Blueberry Bushel.  When I made the layout, two of the colors were retired but now LLT and Blueberry Bushel are in the regular color lineup, hooray!

Okay, I'm off to go work on my projects.  The kid is off school on Friday, and that morning we're picking up the hubs and driving to Colorado to look at houses.  So I want to get some quality crafty time in before that happens.  Cheers!

Plas Mawr

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  It's going to be busy, busy for the next couple of weeks here--Ryan starts swim lessons this afternoon, we have our household goods coming in on Friday, then unpacking everything, and two weeks from today is Meet the Teacher night at Ryan's new school and then he starts first grade that Wednesday.

But for now it's Scrappy Monday.  Today's layout is from when the hubs and I took a whirlwind trip around Wales just prior to moving back to the States from the UK in 2014.  How is this nine years ago already?!

Plas Mawr is an Elizabethan townhouse in Conwy not far away from Conwy Castle; honestly we only went there because it was free with our Cadw passes.  What, I much prefer castles to Elizabethan stuff.  They are Very Proud of the plaster work in this house (see fireplace, top left pic on the right-hand page) and the hubs and I both thought it was gaudy and we're glad it's not in our house.

Today's color palette:  Summer Starfruit, Poppy Parade, Wild Wheat, and Ballet Blue.  Wild Wheat is my least favorite of the In Colors that were introduced this year, but I discovered that it works well with the retired Summer Starfruit.  Of course, I never used much Summer Starfruit either.  Well, I suppose not every color can be my favorite!

Stockholm: Gamla Stan

Scrappy Monday!  Our first round of packers arrives today (hurricane permitting), which means this overseas move is officially kicking off today.  Wooo!  So I thought I'd share a layout from the last time we lived in Europe.

These pictures were taken in Stockholm, which we visited as part of a Baltic Sea cruise (see the original pictures here, I plan to revive my other blog once we get to Germany).  I hope that we'll get to travel again once we get to Germany.

Today's color palette feels kind of unusual to me but I thought it worked with the photos:  Crisp Cantaloupe, Tangerine Tango (both in the Venetian Romance DSP), Pacific Point, Cucumber Crush (taken from the photos), and Very Vanilla.

Scrappy Monday!  We successfully made it home from the Smoky Mountains, and the ball is finally rolling on our move to Germany :) Posts here may be sporadic for a while; I'm going to be busy sorting through what's going into storage vs. what's coming with us, and then we'll likely be without our household goods for a couple of months while they're shipped.  Might not have much time for stamping or scrapping for a while, but I'll do my best.

So let's talk today's layout!  It's another in the series of Welsh castles we visited in May of 2014.

See the original pics here.  I suppose it's misleading to call it a Welsh castle, considering it was built by an English king to subdue the native Welsh.  Despite that, Beaumaris is beautiful; it's on the island of Anglesey where Prince William and Kate lived for a while.  I loved Wales, I'd love to go back and see more of it.

Today's color palette:  Old Olive, Cameo Coral (that pattern from the Raspberry Tart DSP is one of my favorites), Raspberry Ripple, Elegant Eggplant, and Whisper White.

Holyhead

Mornin', y'all.  I'm extra sleepy this morning and the dogs are uncooperative and Ryan just flipped his lid because he spilled Vader's food all over the floor and my hubs put Ryan in his playard to clean up dog food and Ryan thought that was Not Acceptable.  So ya know, it's a Monday morning here.  But I still have a layout to share!

This layout is from our road trip through Wales; see the original pictures here.  I really like how this layout turned out, though I did have to completely redo the yellow strip on the right where the title is.  I'd started out with a different flower on it and I just didn't like it, so I did it over.

Today's color palette includes lots of retired colors:  Elegant Eggplant (it's purple, even if it looks black on the computer screen), Regal Rose, Rose Red, So Saffron (not retired), Lucky Limeade, and Whisper White (also not retired, because why would we retire WHITE).  Anyway, my colors were inspired by the pretty flowers in front of the church and I love them.

I'm going to go find myself something for breakfast and hopefully start waking up a bit more.  Cheers, y'all!

Pistyll Waterfall

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  How was your weekend?  We've been pretty busy...little munchkin man has started pulling himself up to standing with whatever piece of furniture happens to be handy...he's grabbed my pants leg a time or two but I think that's got too much give for him to pull himself up.  But yep, now we have to move everything up out of his newly-extended reach and keep a sharp eye on him.  He already likes climbing all over the coffee table and end tables.  Busy busy busy little baby.  Wish we didn't have so many stairs in this house.

Anyway, it's Scrappy Monday and that means a scrapbook layout!

This is another layout from Wales (pictures here).  And do you see that??? I used Flirty Flamingo for my page base!  I probably wouldn't have thought to do that but the shirt I'm wearing in the pictures is a pink paisley print, and pink + green is always a color combination winner.  And there's a lot of green in the photos.

At first I wanted to try stamping my own paisley pattern for an accent but then I went with the stripey paper from the Painted Autumn DSP instead.  And then I wanted a leafy accent and I started to get out my giant binder stamp catalog but then I thought why make this harder than it has to be? And I used the leaf and matching punch from Painted Harvest, so I was done in a flash.  Don't ask me why I decided to stamp "waterfall" in two colors, I just thought it would be fun.

Today's colors:  Flirty Flamingo, Gumball Green, Lemon Lime Twist, Dapper Denim, and Very Vanilla.  The DSP is actually a watercolor wash between Garden Green and Lemon Lime Twist, but I discovered that pattern goes really well with Gumball Green, which is kinda like the midpoint between the other two colors.

Castell Coch

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I've got a busy day ahead:  have to clean up the house and bake a few things because I'm hosting book club tonight.  So why did the hubs and I choose to take apart the couch yesterday, clean the cushions and restuff them?  Whoops.

So anyway, today's scrapbook layout is one that took like two weeks to finish for no particular reason.  It just took forever for me to get from the start to the end, but I like how it turned out.

Photos here.  Castell Coch means "Red Castle" in Welsh; we heard it was because a former owner of said castle had red hair, though Wikipedia thinks that it's because the sandstone used to build it is kind of reddish.  Either way, I had to use Ruby Red for my page base because reasons.

I've been using Jayne's Type Alphabet (usually along with Rough Type) for the titles on all my Welsh pages.  I've done ten Wales layouts and I still have five to go.  We saw a lot of castles in Wales.  Anyway, my Ruby Red pad is pretty old (obviously, since the color retired quite a long time ago) so I hit it with some ink refill before I stamped the title and it worked like a champ.  Oh, part of the reason why it took so long to finish this layout:  I stamped the square embellishments and punched them out with a 5/8" square punch.  Did I have a 3/4" square punch to mat with?  Noooooo.  I tried cutting 3/4" squares with my paper trimmer, but I always got them a little lopsided and my crafty OCD was not okay with that.  This is why Amazon Prime is a really, really dangerous thing for me.  Got the punch two days later and voila!  Finally finished.

Today's color combo:  Ruby Red, Groovy Guava, Wild Wasabi, Basic Gray, and Whisper White.  Sometimes I get stuck on one color and use it on several layouts in a row; this time it was Ruby Red and I did SIX layouts with it over three different places/events.  I also used the Ginger Blossom DSP on all of them too.  The other five layouts are going in my China albums though.

That's it for me today.  I'm off to bake an apple cake because happily the hubs has the day off work so HE can watch the baby while I bake.  Then we have to put the couch back together.  Cheers!

Scrappy Monday, y'all.  Today has started out a little rough, but some of yesterday's leftover waffles with strawberries and whipped cream is definitely making it a bit better :)

Today's scrapbook layout is one I finished a few months ago but today seems like a good day to share it.  Pics are from the one castle we visited in Wales that's actually Welsh as opposed to a castle built by the English king Edward to subdue the Welsh (pics here).  This is a really small castle, more like a tower house...it's possible that the townhouse I live in now is about the same size.  Maybe slightly smaller.  But the views from Dolwyddelan are definitely better than what I've got in Virginia ;)

There's some subtle background stamping going on (sorry for the glare on the sheep photo).

Today's color palette:  Soft Sky, Night of Navy, Smoky Slate, and Sweet Sugarplum.  Not what I was planning to use when I got these pictures out, but that's what I ended up with :)  Cheers, y'all!

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Did you have a good weekend?  I did--I went to see Wonder Woman yesterday and it was AMAZING.  I can't wait for it to come out on digital/DVD so I can watch it again!  I left the hubs and the tiny human at home to go see it by my onesies, and then I went to Target.  And then when I got back to my car I opened what I thought was a bottle of flavored water and it turned out to be carbonated ICK which exploded all over me and the inside of my car.  So like an Amazon warrior, I destroyed it and did a load of laundry after I cleaned out my car ;)

But anyway!  Let's check out today's scrapbook layout, shall we?

Here's a slightly blurry closeup of the flowers I fussy-cut as accents.  I kinda think maybe I should add a few Watermelon Wonder flowers like the one next to the title...

Horseback Riding (Wales)

It's a rainy scrappy Monday, y'all.  How was your weekend?  I was really really hoping to finish up my honeymoon album over the weekend, but it took a lot longer than expected to clean house yesterday so I still have two layouts to finish up.  One just needs journaling, but the other one has some work left to do.  I know what I'll be doing during naptime today!

Anyway, I do have a scrapbook layout to share today!  Something pretty simple.

Pictures are from our 2014 road trip through Wales; read the original blog post here.  I think it was another cloudy/rainy day when I took the photo of this layout, it came out kinda dark.  Well, dang.  It seems like I'm doing a lot of layouts lately with only horizontal photos, and there's only so many ways you can arrange a bunch of horizontal photos if you're not cropping them much.  Ever get the feeling that your pages are all starting to look alike?  Well, at least the colors change...

Super-simple title with Rough Type and Jayne's Type.

Here is today's color palette:  Perfect Plum, Marina Mist, More Mustard, and Whisper White.   It looks prettier IRL than the pictures make it look.

Loch Ness

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  We had a good time last week with my friend Tiana and her girls visiting us.  And here it is time for another scrapbook layout!

I know it's tough to crack my secret code, but the photos are from Loch Ness in Scotland (is there even another one?  I think not).  See the original photos here.  And click on the photo of the layout above to look at it bigger, I'm rather proud of the alternating Night of Navy and Basic Gray mats on the right page.  Another thing I'm proud of?  The page title.

How'd I do it?  I inked up the letter stamps with sponge daubers so I could do both Night of Navy and Basic Gray ink and got this cool effect.  Obviously it's going to look best with thicker stamps rather than line art, but I love how this turned out on here.

Today's color palette is the long-retired Kiwi Kiss, Calypso Coral, Night of Navy, Basic Gray, and Very Vanilla.  I swear I'm using Night of Navy on almost everything lately.

That's all for now.  Squirt has the hiccups but he's pretty happy in his swing, so I think I'll go get cleaned up and take us both to the grocery store.  Cheers, y'all!

Denbigh

Scrappy Wednesday, y'all!  I have a squirmy hiccupy baby on my lap but he's not crying so I'm gonna attempt to type up this blog post!  One-handed, no less.

I did enough scrapbooking during my pregnancy that I have quite a few layouts that haven't been posted here.  For today I thought we'd go back to Wales, specifically Denbigh Castle.

A lot of times I'll try a few arrangements of photos before I settle on what I want to do, and I usually snap pics of them so I can compare the options.  So there's the one I didn't choose.  (The blank space in the upper right would have been for journaling.)

I've been using Jayne's Type for the titles of almost all my Wales pages.  The stylized sun is from Moroccan Nights.

Today's color palette:  Crushed Curry, Delightful Dijon, Cajun Craze, Gumball Green, Mossy Meadow, Basic Gray, and Whisper White.  I usually wouldn't pair Gumball Green (the patterned paper) and Mossy Meadow (the darker green photo mats), but it seemed to work on this layout so I went with it. 

I have SO MANY castle pictures (not complaining) that are a lot of gray, and then grass and sky, so it's a bit of a challenge sometimes to make the scrapbook pages for each one unique.  But since the main color is gray that means I can be more adventurous with the other colors I choose for the layout.  If you're curious, you can see more castle scrapbook pages here:  Rhuddlan Castle, Alnwick Castle, Chepstow Catsle, and Cardoness.  I've got more that I haven't posted yet :)

Scrappy Showcase, Part 1

ETA:  this was supposed to show up on Saturday morning but it looks like it's already published.  So happy early new year?

Last day of the year, y'all!  And thus begins my 2016 scrappy showcase.  Since I usually only post one scrapbook layout per week, sometimes it takes quite a while between when I make one and when I post it so I didn't necessarily make all of these this year.  BUT I did complete 142 pages, so hooray for me!  My goal was 100, so I passed it by a bit :)  Anyway, let's get going!

First up is this layout from the last castle we visited in Wales; I love the dark orange colors contrasted with the green and blues.

Next is my scrappy ode to Disney's greatest villain, all pics taken at Disneyland Paris.  Again I love the colors with the photos plus it's Maleficent, can't go wrong there.

Next up is this snowy layout from England; I got the color combination of Island Indigo, Baja Breeze, and Rich Razzleberry from the old Color Coach.  I never would have put those three colors together on my own but I love the combination so much that I've used it several times on baby books too.

And the final layout for today is this New Years layout, appropriate no?  No Rock Band parties for us this year though, we'll be staying in tonight.

Vasa Museum

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Today's scrapbook layout is one I did a few months ago and I just didn't want to forget to post it here :)  Here it is:

These pics are from the day we spent in Stockholm, Sweden (see them here).  A friend of ours recommended we check out the Vasa Museum, which houses the raised shipwreck of a nearly 400-year-old Swedish navy ship.  The conditions of the Baltic Sea make it so the water preserves shipwrecks much better than in other places.

There's my title.  Uh, I think mixed-font titles are like my "thing" on scrapbook pages.

I love that lion shield stamp from Wing It, and it really fit here since the figurehead on the ship is a lion too.

Going Down (Mount Fuji)

Scrappy Monday, y'all.  I worked on a scrapbook layout over the weekend that I wanted to share today, but I haven't gotten the journaling done on it yet so instead I'm sharing the last of the Mount Fuji pages (see the other three layouts here, here, and here).

So there it is, our return trip down the dread mountain.  I've never been a big fan of Bravo Burgundy, but to my everlasting surprise it really, really worked for these pictures...click the photo above to see it bigger and look at the red tones in the landscape pictures.  Anyway, when I got out my very dusty Bravo Burgundy ink pad for this layout, I opened it up and found...

The Dreaded Gold Sheen.  This is an older felt-style ink pad; I've also had gold sheen on Raspberry Ripple and Riding Hood Red, and I think my one-year-old Cherry Cobbler has a slight case of it too.  For some reason it usually affects the reds.  Anyway, I'm not really sure how to get rid of it, and I heard that it could be contagious (like, if you ink up a stamp with a gold sheen ink pad, and then clean it on your stampin' scrub, the gold sheen sits on that and could theoretically infect other ink pads if you clean a stamp and then immediately ink it up with another color).  So anyway, I made my layout work without Bravo Burgundy ink (though I suppose I could have used a BB marker).

My final Fuji color palette:  Bravo Burgundy, So Saffron, Garden Green, Wild Wasabi, Tip Top Taupe, and Early Espresso.  Who knew I'd use Bravo Burgundy on a scrapbook layout and like it?

Well, I think I'll try to take my doglets for a walk for the first time since Snowmageddon.  Sadie may explode with joy, so wish me luck...cheers, y'all!

Rhuddlan Castle

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I have actually made some new scrapbook pages this year, but today's layout is one I made last year and I just can't wait anymore to share it here.

Rhuddlan Castle was the last castle we visited on our week-long road trip through Wales; see more pics here.  I've scrapped a fair number of our Wales pictures already...it's funny, I draw random slips of paper to choose what to scrap next (you can laugh, but it makes my process SO much faster if I'm not flipping through thousands of photos trying to decide what to work on next) but somehow I've ended up doing a lot of Wales and the Med cruise we did.  Hmm.

Closeup of the title; I do love Jayne's Type and of course Rough Type (the smaller one) gets used on like half my layouts.  That little alphabet was definitely worth the purchase.

And there's my color combo.  I was flipping through my color swatch book when I noticed how Cajun Craze and Dusty Durango looked together, so I just had to use them both.  The Kiwi Kiss, Night of Navy, and Soft Sky made a nice contrast with those two warm oranges, I love it :)
