Friday Flashback: Clockworks

Howdy, kids.  Today's Friday Flashback is even more time-oriented than usual because the stamp set is Clockworks!  So let's flash back.

I think this one is my favorite; I used the long-retired Brushed Copper cardstock and copper brads to make this one.  So that's it for the archives, here is today's new creation:

The main character in Doctor Who is an alien called a Time Lord, so I figured there was never a more appropriate time (teehee) to use Clockworks.  I convinced the hubs to take me to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff when we were in Wales in 2014, even though he thinks that Doctor Who is the weirdest show ever put on television.

After I stamped all the pocket watches and gears, I realized that I had lined up the numbers so the I is at the top of the clock face instead of the XII.*  #DUH.  I'm just going to pretend that's what a Time Lord's watch looks like.  Oh, for the DW logo, I just Googled for an image of it and printed out one that was line art, then I stuck it on top of Very Vanilla cardstock with removable adhesive and cut it out with scissors.  It's a little crooked but hey, handmade.

*I just looked back through the cards and I did the same thing on Card #3.  #DoubleDuh.

Today's color palette:  Very Vanilla, Brilliant Blue (for the TARDIS, naturally), Early Espresso, Baked Brown Sugar, and a fair bit of embossed copper.  All the watches and some of the gears are copper EP, which I still have from the last time SU! sold it so hey, I'm one up on the trend.

Regal Birthday

Howdy, folks!  Hubs and I are back home and all our visitors are back at their own houses after the two-week European invasion.  Didja know I was gone?  :)  I set up two weeks of blog posts for here before I left.

Soooo I hadn't stamped in two weeks and boy did I miss it!  But I think it'll take me a few days to get back in the groove, 'cause this card took me a while.

The colors are Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit, Bermuda Bay, and a little bit of Chocolate Chip to match my friend Carrie's living room.  My mom crocheted her an afghan that's pretty much Raspberry Ripple and Chocolate Chip so I made the card to coordinate.  Ignore that my line o' brads is a little bit crooked.

CreativeCrew: Happy Cupcake

Here's another project I did for May's CreativeCrew challenges, take a look!

It's kind of CAS but still shows off three different patterned papers, and I think that cupcake stamp is totes adorbs :)  And here's the party pic that inspired my card:

Fun colors, right?  For some reason the whole pennant thing hasn't really tripped my trigger, so I don't have the pennant punch or the birthday stamp sets with all the pennants.  Someone tell my husband that I do not in fact own everything SU! has ever made ;)

Happy Birthday to My Sweetie!

If you're looking for hearts today, you won't find them here.  Today is not just Valentine's Day, it's my husband's birthday  :)  He hates sharing a birthday with V-Day (as he says, have YOU ever tried to give someone else a present on your birthday?) and would probably rather ignore the fact that he has a birthday at all, but I won't let him do that.  So I made him a card.

I was looking through the SCS color challenges that I hadn't done yet and ran across Close to Cocoa and Night of Navy, which made me laugh--I often tease Lee that all his clothes are khaki, gray, black, or navy blue, so pretty much all neutrals (what, I consider navy blue to be a neutral).  So here's his manly neutral-color birthday card, which is based on this week's Nacho sketch:

Love the sketch, though I'm not 100% in love with my card.  Let's be honest, I'm rarely 100% in love with my creations, but that just leaves me room to improve, right?

The Anti-Color Challenge

I have said several times how I hate it when there's a "color" challenge that has nothing but neutrals in it--in my opinion, anything billing itself as a color challenge should have multiple colors, not all neutrals or one color and a bunch of neutrals (my mother says I'm very opinionated).  Imagine my annoyance when I actually kinda liked what I made for yesterday's oh-so-blah non-color challenge at Splitcoast:

Though I wonder if this is TOO blah for a birthday card?  Is it depressing for a birthday, between the clocks ("hey, you're old!") and the lack of color?  I was thinking of sending it to a guy friend of mine, thinking it works as a masculine card.  Maybe I should try it again with some actual colors this time.

Seriously love that sketch, oh so many possibilities.  Between the lack of colors on today's card and the blah weather, I kinda want to do this sketch again and go gonzo with colors :)  I think I need to make myself a card that will require me to wear sunglasses to look at it.
