Cutest Halloween Collection

Hey y'all.  Man, I didn't get to do ANYTHING in my craft room yesterday on my day off.  I couldn't get focused in the morning and then I had to go pick Ryan up from daycare at noon because the daycare provider's son came home sick from school so she had to close.  I feel like I wasted my only time off this week :(  Well, some days are just like that.

As it happens, I DO have something to share today.  Not only that, I have four cards to share.  I spent some time just playing around with the Cutest Halloween suite when I was working on my card for the SUO Challenges Halloween challenge.  But I made several other ones and I figured I'd better hurry up and share since Halloween is this weekend.

I was all set to resist this suite entirely *until* I saw that adorable Flirty Flamingo paper with the bats.  THOSE BATS.  I'm ded from teh cute.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cutest Halloween
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black, Cute Halloween DSP Stack
Accessories:  Tasteful Labels dies, white EP, Dimensionals

I love the idea that skulls can blush ;)  And have you ever seen a cuter skull?

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cutest Halloween
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather, Cute Halloween DSP Stack
Accessories:  Tasteful Labels dies, white EP, Dimensionals

I made this with the stamped images first, and then decided to punch them out of the DSP after the fact.  Yeah, the DSP is totally what sold me on this suite.  The stamps are cute, but the paper is totally adorable.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cutest Halloween
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:  Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive, Cute Halloween DSP Stack
Accessories: Dimensionals

I was just trying to use up the rest of the sheet of bat paper from the other two projects for this card.  I love this pattern but I had a hard time figuring out how to use it!  If you use a die to cut out one or two of the bats then most of the rest of them are unusable because they get their edges cut off.  Frustrating!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cutest Halloween
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  Highland Heather, Basic Gray, Cute Halloween DSP Stack
Accessories:  Ornate Labels dies, white EP, Dimensionals

We're doing a trunk-or-treat thing tonight and another one tomorrow.  Wish me luck with my kid on a major sugar high...Happy Halloween!

Birthday Pumpkin

Mornin' y'all!  I had to whip up a quick birthday card yesterday morning before work so I could get it in the mail ASAP.  Here's what I came up with in under 20 minutes:

The leaves are GLORIOUS right now and this one fell off a tree near my work; I had to pick it up when I left work Monday afternoon because it was so pretty.  Anyway, the card!  I sent this off ON the birthday girl's birthday so it will definitely be late, but that's an excuse to celebrate longer, right?  After I took this picture, I decided the pumpkin needed some Wink of Stella because I always like Wink of Stella.

I started with the Fusion challenge:

I'm just squeaking in under the deadline on this one :)  I pulled my colors from the photo:  Very Vanilla, Mint Macaron, Cajun Craze, and Baja Breeze, with some Early Espresso for the birthday sentiment and the pumpkin stem.  My card also fits with the Global Design Project theme challenge:

Pumpkins?  Yes please.  Last up is the Paper Players sketch:

Couldn't resist using the Watercolor Shapes stamp set for the three panels in the background, though they're wider than the panels on the sketch.  I figure that falls under creative license.

October ends this weekend, but as far as I'm concerned, pumpkin season is a year-round thing (especially if it involves this coffee cake).  I'm hoping the fall colors last a bit longer, I'm loving it!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Gather Together, Watercolor Shapes, Sharing Sunshine
Ink:  Mint Macaron, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso
Paper:  Thick Very Vanilla, Mint Macaron, Baja Breeze
Accessories:  Gathered Leaves dies, hexagon punch, Dimensionals, Wink of Stella

SUO Challenges: Holiday Catty

Mornin' stampy friends! It is time once again for a new challenge from SUO Challenges!  How is it the last Tuesday in October already?!  I need like a whole 'nother month of October, please.

Our challenge is so fun this time:  use your favorite stuff from the holiday catalog!  Easy peasy, right?  When I first saw the catalog, my #1 very favorite thing in it was the Blackberry Beauty DSP, and my #1 favorite stamp set was Nuts About Squirrels.  So for today's card I combined the two!

The paper is fancy (especially with the gold) and the squirrel is sassy (so PINK) but I think they work together??  I'm super excited I finally did a brightly colored squirrel with this stamp set, too.  All the Sword in the Stone vibes!  (I need to do a blue squirrel for Merlin!  Though the Nuts About Squirrels stamps aren't grumpy like he is.)

Make your own SUO holiday catty creation and share it on the SUO Challenges blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Nuts About Squirrels
Ink:  Blackberry Bliss, Cinnamon Cider, Polished Pink, Cinnamon Cider Stampin' Blends
Paper:  Blackberry Bliss, Polished Pink, Thick Basic White, Blackberry Beauty DSP
Accessories:  circle punches (may be retired?), Dimensionals

Leaf Peeping, Part 1

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  We had a nice weekend here with some really beautiful weather yesterday, so we went out for a family bike ride which unfortunately ended with a crash for Ryan.  No major injuries but it did make us go back home and feed Ryan popsicles because he hit his mouth pretty good.  Glad he was wearing a helmet!

Anyway, today I have a couple of layouts to share that I just LOVE.  We've got the pretty fall colors happening here in Germany right now and they're also happening all over this layout.

This was from our trip up to New England in 2016, when I was pregnant with Ryan.  These pics are from a state park in Massachusetts and we took so many pictures that I loved that I had to do several layouts.

I love the long-retired Orchard Harvest DSP which is good because I bought several packs of it when it went on the clearance rack.  I stuck to the color palette from the DSP for all my layouts (this is just part 1, more coming next Monday) and just changed around which of the patterns I used.  I used Wonderfall for the leaf accents, which is a fabulous leaf stamp set.  There's a coordinating die for it, but this was back in the day before there were the wafer-thin dies for everything that you can see exactly where it's cutting; the die is a big solid block which means it's impossible to cut out stamped images accurately, and it's a PAIN to stamp on already-cut images so I fussy-cut all the leaves on my pages.  Worth it!

There's the Orchard Harvest palette:  Cajun Craze, Lucky Limeade, More Mustard, Raspberry Ripple, Island Indigo, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla.  I miss Island Indigo.

Cheers, y'all!

Fall Flowers

Happy Friday, y'all!  I was at work yesterday, working on my giant cross stitch piece (I can do that at work, it's great) and thinking it was about two in the afternoon when my phone alarm went off because it was actually FOUR and time for me to leave work and pick up the spawn.  Time flies when you're having fun, I guess!

Yesterday morning I made a quick card because we have lots of birthdays coming up in November and I need to get ready.

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the color combo from CAS Colours & Sketches:

And the theme from the Paper Players:

Now, two of those three challenges are specifically CAS, so instead of using patterned paper or something and adding a layer for the background strip on the sketch, I used some Post-It Notes to mask and used a blending brush to make a soft Night of Navy stripe directly on the card base.  And because I'm hard-headed, I took a deep, rich, dark color combination and made it light by applying ink to the fill-in stamps with a sponge and then stamping them.  So I used all the specified colors but I kept the card light and airy.  I did add some Wink of Stella to the flowers (because don't I always?) and some gold gems from a previous Paper Pumpkin kit for a little glitz, but I still think it's CAS....okay, maybe CAS-plus.

Cheers, y'all!

Hand-Penned Pink Poinsettia

Yup, Halloween card yesterday and a Christmas card today!  I'm sure I'll have more fall stuff soon too :)

I used this week's Global Design Project sketch:

And the Color Throwdown palette:

Today my stamps are current, but two of the colors are long-retired.  I used Pretty in Pink, Highland Heather, and Cool Caribbean for my colors.  I won't lie, at first I was trying to figure out how to do Agnes in pastels (yesterday's witch), but in the end I couldn't shake the idea of a pink poinsettia.

Gotta get ready to go to work.  Cheers!

Witch Way Agnes

Hey hey, happy Wednesday!  How many of y'all took advantage of SU!'s one day stamp sale?  *raises hand* I admit, I impulse-bought a few stamp sets!  Hey, it's a reward for having blood drawn this morning, right?

But for today, I'm going back to some retired stamps!

It just isn't the Halloween season without at least one appearance from Agnes, Frankie, and/or Vlad! *gasp* HOW have I not inked up Agnes or her friends since 2017?!  Oh yeah, this was long overdue.  I had a great time today coloring in Agnes with various Stampin' Blends, and then I masked her off (I have a mask I cut out ages ago that lives in the stamp case) and used a blending brush to add in some Coastal Cabana background for her.

How fun is the Try Stamping on Tuesday sketch?

Here's the theme challenge from Cupcake Inspirations:

And the challenge from Retro Rubber:

I want to say I've had Best Fiends since about 2006, and Haunt Ya Later is from 2015, so they're both very firmly in the retro category :)

I've only got two hours left before I have to go pick Ryan up from daycare so I'd better hurry up and get some things done!  Cheers, y'all!

Anniversary Extraordinaire

Mornin' y'all!  My work schedule is a bit wonky this week so the hubs is taking Ryan to daycare in the morning, and that means I had time yesterday to make an anniversary card for him!  (The hubs, not the kid.)  So here's what I made for our 18th anniversary yesterday:

Have you ever heard of a golden birthday?  Where the date matches how old you are, so like when you turn 15 years old on the 15th of the month?  Well, that would make this year our golden anniversary--18 years on October 18th.  So my brain wanted to use gold on the card, and I really liked the Sunday Stamps sketch:

I thought of fall leaves for the circle elements, but I decided on green because our marriage is still growing and thriving :)  Plus we met when we were in college at Baylor University, and their colors are green and gold, so there you go.  I used Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent for my greens.

Have a great day, friends!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Simply Succulents
Ink:  Versamark

The Big Bad Wolf

Scrappy Monday!  And happy anniversary to me and my hubs, our marriage is officially an adult now ;)

Today's scrapbook layout is from Ryan's second Halloween.

The hubs was gone on Halloween, so when he was home the following weekend, Ryan and I dressed up again as Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf to do a little photo shoot.  I didn't take Ryan trick-or-treating on Halloween either (he was not quite 2, and he didn't need all that candy anyway), we just dressed up and handed out candy at our house.  Ryan loved that wolf costume though, at least once I told him to get something warm to wear as we were on our way out to the Y and he brought me the costume.  I let him wear it (in January) and everyone at the Y couldn't stop gushing about how cute he was.  It's true, he was adorable.  Still is, for that matter.

Today's Halloweenie color palette:  Basic Gray, Pumpkin Pie, Kiwi Kiss, Basic Black, and Whisper White.  I wanted Halloween colors for the layout despite the red cape in the pictures :)

Hope you're enjoying spooky season!

Squirrel Salutations

Mornin' folks and happy Friday!  Hope you've had a good week.  Looks like it's going to be nice weather this afternoon (and a little bit cool, YAY FALL!) so I'll probably take Ryan out to the playground.  In the meantime, I carved out a few minutes in my craft room to make a card.

Nuts About Squirrels was the #1 stamp set on my wish list when I first saw the holiday catalog :) And yet I've only used it one other time.  I'll have to find a balance between playing with retired stamps and enjoying the newer schtuff too.  (....yeah I just got another retired stamp set in the mail yesterday that I ordered on Ebay!)  Anyway, this squirrel seemed like the perfect choice for this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Lost Lagoon, Crumb Cake, Chocolate Chip, and Basic White as my colors.  So even though the stamps and all the dies (three different sets) are current, I still used some retired DSP and retired colors.  Next time I stamp these squirrels I'll have to do some brighter fall colors--some of the native squirrels here (southern Germany) are a gorgeous bright chestnut red color, though I've seen a black squirrel too.  These stamps still remind me of the Disney movie The Sword in the Stone, so maybe I'll have to do a blue squirrel sometime.

In the meantime, I'm going to go spend some time with Ryan.  I think we're finally going to make that homemade applesauce this morning...cheers!

They're Altogether Ooky

Mornin' y'all!  At least it's still morning here.  I tried to sneak up to my craft room while Ryan was playing video games, but he followed me and insisted on "helping", so I let him do the adhesive on my card.

These fun characters are from the Monster Bash DSP from a few years ago and I *wish* we had stamps of them all.  The coordinating Spooktacular Bash stamps (where the "spooky" is from) has a vampire and a mummy, but the DSP had a whole host of fun spooky characters.  I thought of them when I saw this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

Ryan helped choose which of the various witches, mummies, skeletons, and dragons to use on my card, but he was disappointed I decided against the mummy so we made a second card:

He's pretty cute too.  After I cut the mummy out I remembered I have a whole stack of these spiderweb doily things so I thought it would be an appropriately creepy backdrop for the mummy.  I used other sentiment stamps from Spooktacular Bash on the insides of the cards but I didn't take a picture so you'll have to take my word for that.  I'll need to get Halloween cards sent off really soon!

I think Ryan and I are going to draw some more monsters and other Halloween spooks to decorate the house.  Boo to you!

Autumn Hugs

Hey y'all!  We just got back home last night after spending a long weekend in Berlin.  It was a good trip; I got to see the super-famous bust of Nefertiti at the Neues Museum and all of us highly enjoyed the zoo.  But it's good to be home too because I managed to snatch a few minutes today to make a very quick card.

The colors are changing here and I LOVE IT.  Fall is definitely my favorite season!  Couldn't pass up the Paper Players color challenge:

I added Crumb Cake for the fourth color (I figure white doesn't count).  The leaf is inked up with Pale Papaya and then I sponged on some Pumpkin Pie ink before stamping.  The card still seemed too plain, so I added a bit of sponging to the white layer for a bit of added interest.  I'm really itching to play a lot more with fall and Halloween stamps but I have Ryan with me for the rest of the week, which makes it challenging.

Oh well, at least I snuck in a teeny bit of stamping.  Now I just need to convince the child that we have GOT to go grocery shopping or we won't have anything for dinner tonight.  Cheers!

SUO Challenges: Halloween!

Happy Tuesday, stampy friends!  Are you ready for a new challenge from SUO Challenges?

Our theme this time is Halloween!  I was tempted to pull out an old favorite retired Halloween set, but instead I spent some time playing with the Cutest Halloween bundle.  So here is my card for today:

Actually the only stamping on this card is the sentiment, the rest is the Cute Halloween DSP Stack.  Honestly I was not planning to get any of this stuff, UNTIL I saw that super-cute bat on the pink paper!!!  He has some friends too, but ironically I've had trouble figuring out how to use the paper effectively.  The bats have teeny bits that would make it difficult to fussy-cut, but die-cutting means wasting a lot of the paper.  Well, I have three more sheets of it to figure it out!

Share your spooky creations on the SUO Challenges blog!

Pupkins

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I am super happy to be sharing a Halloween layout today.

And let me just pat myself on the back because how AWESOME is that punny page title?!  I was just going to stamp "pumpkins" and then at the last second I was like wait, no, it should be PUPKINS and I giggled hysterically at my own cleverness because my doggos were dressed up as pumpkins.  I miss those fur babies.

Today's Halloween-inspired color palette:  Pumpkin Pie, Kiwi Kiss, Gorgeous Grape, Basic Black, and Whisper White.

Have a spooky Monday!

Quoth the Raven

Mornin', y'all!  Our regular daycare lady is on leave back to the States for a while, and we couldn't find any backup childcare, so I had to take off work part of this week and all of next week to pretend to be a SAHM for a bit.  So I bought a bunch of craft supplies from where I work and we spent a lot of time yesterday drawing monsters on construction paper to make decorations for Halloween.  I had one package of giant glow-in-the-dark googly eyes and Ryan used all of them on ONE paper, ha.  But we both had fun yesterday doing that.

Ryan also helped me make a card earlier this week!

I did the stamping while he was in the tub, but he did the die cutting for the Pumpkin Pie and Crushed Curry pieces, put on all the adhesive, and helped me put the iridescent pearls on there.  Not too bad for a 4-year-old.

Check out the spooky challenge from the Paper Players!

The raven in the bottom right corner made me think of the long-retired stamp set Toxic Treats, and without intending to I pretty much used the colors from the jack-o-lantern pic in the bottom left.  The Misty Moonlight panel is from the current Beauty of the Earth DSP, and the other two layers are from the retired Classic Garage Stack.  Love how I made a Halloween card with papers that aren't Halloween themed!

Enjoy the spooky season!  We're going to draw more monsters today.

Apple Pie

Not last weekend but the one before, we went apple picking (ignoring the fact that we have TWO apple trees in our own yard).  I have since made apple cinnamon bread, apple pie, and apple crumb cake, and we *still* have a giant bag of apples on the counter!  Next up I think I'll try brown butter apple blondies, and maybe homemade applesauce.  I'll probably still have apples left to experiment with.

Apples have also invaded my craft room and I'm not mad at it.  Loved the inspo list for the current Festive Friday challenge:

I used apples (obviously), red, green, circles if you count the rhinestones, baking, and that DSP reminds me of basket weave.  Or a woven lattice pie crust.  The teeny apples on the background are from the long-retired One Smart Cookie stamp set, but I wanted to make it obvious that this is an APPLE pie, which is my hubs' favorite.  Oh, I also printed out a recipe for apple cranberry pie (I've made cranberry apple almond pie before and it is AMAZEBALLS but I don't think I can find the almond paste here).  I've never made pie crust from scratch before, but I think this might be the year to try it.

What's your favorite apple recipe?

Serene Fox

Mornin' y'all!  I don't know how much time I'll get in my craft room this week and next, but I did get a couple of cards made on Sunday.  Here's the first one:

I loved the inspiration picture from Inkspirational Challenges:

I just *had* to squeeze in enough crafting time to make a fox-inspired card!  I decided on Cinnamon Cider, Pale Papaya, and Soft Succulent for my colors, based on the inspo pic.  The fox is colored with a combination of dark Pale Papaya and light Cinnamon Cider blends, with Soft Succulent light and dark for the background.  Not so sure about the halo effect on my fox, but it felt like he needed *something* behind him.

Have a great day, y'all.

Newborn Pictures #2

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  More newborn pics for today.

I made these pages quite some time ago, and looking back on them now I'm not so sure about the dark colors on the hearts.  *shrug*  Well, it is what it is.

AAAAHHHHHHH I LOVE THE HATS.  And now this wee babe is a big sturdy four (and a HALF) year old who just showed me his crazy robot dance.

Color palette is the same as last week:  Pistachio Pudding, Coastal Cabana, Hello Honey, Shaded Spruce, Crisp Cantaloupe, Night of Navy, and Whisper White.

Happy Birthday, Man

Hey y'all, this week has just been wearing me out!  I meant to post this card yesterday but I ran out of time to do it, so here it is today instead.

We have a lot of birthdays coming up in the family in October and November, so we're kicking off birthday season (and also fall! my favorite!) with a card for my brother-in-law.  I used both sides of a single piece of Beauty of the Earth DSP and who else is in love with the Intricate Leaves dies?  I felt like the leaf needed some kind of embellishment so I dug up a long-retired Candy Dot.  Remember those?  I *loved* those, they were my favorite embellishments, especially because they came in ALLLLLL the colors.

I used the Paper Players sketch:

And the Global Design Project theme:

I used the "best wishes" sentiment on the front just because it fit on the die better than "happy birthday", so I stamped "happy birthday" on the inside of the card.  Now I just need to get the hubs to sign it and it can go off in the mail...it might actually get there ON TIME even!

Cheers!
