Radiant Bouquet

Mornin' y'all and happy Friday.  I'm so happy that yesterday I finally inked up the third new stamp set I got in my last SU! order, Radiant Sunflowers!

I have the coordinating DSP too, but today I used something different to go with the inspo pic at Just Us Girls:

I put my bouquet on a Night of Navy pattern from the Nature Walk DSP and used Peaceful Pine as my card base, going with the darker colors to make the flowers pop like on the pic.  And I had some fun coloring in the flowers, I did each one a bit differently with a mix of Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze.  And I kinda sorta used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

My bouquet image is a little pointier at the top and bottom and wider in the middle, though I wish I'd cut the ribbon a little differently to match the sketch a little better.  And obviously I stretched this into a regular A2 card because I don't like making square cards.  But I did just get the new Tiled Garden square dies, which are like the square version of the Spotlight on Nature dies that are circles.  Those teeny cutout bits are annoying as all get-out to get off the cutting plate for my Big Shot, but they sure look good on the card!  I backed the cutouts with Daffodil Delight to make them stand out more.  I thought the sparkle dots were Daffodil Delight but they're actually Darling Duckling, we have hardly any embellishments in Daffodil Delight or Pumpkin Pie and I don't know why.

Sew Crafty

Mornin' y'all.  I was not as productive in the craft room yesterday because I was busy running back and forth to the store.  The hubs had requested lasagna for dinner, so after I took Ryan to school, I went to the store to get ingredients for lasagna and orange Jello because we always had orange Jello with lasagna when I was a kid so they go together in my brain.  Then I got home and made the orange Jello so it could set in the fridge and sat down at the computer and realized that I had forgotten the ground beef for the lasagna, so I had to go BACK to the store to get that and then I assembled the lasagna and put it in the fridge until time to bake it for dinner last night and then most of my kid-free time was used up.  I was grumpy.  That lasagna was sure good for dinner though, and Ryan refused to eat it because he's crazy.

I pulled out the very old Sweet Stitches DSP, Handmade for You and Button Button stamp sets and I'm sure this card will be going to my mom, who does like to sew and is the one who taught me how to cross stitch when I was younger than Ryan is now.  I've had that DSP for many many moons (I think it's over ten years old) so I'm glad to use up even a little of it.

Ryan and the hubs have a Donuts with Dads thing at Ryan's school this morning, so Daph and I will be going for our morning walk while they're doing that.  Cheers, y'all!

A Couple of Corny Cards

Mornin' y'all!  Man, Ryan was in a MOOD again this morning, he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.  Hopefully he'll be over it by the time I pick him up from school.  Meanwhile, I'm pretty happy because I had a very productive session in the warcraft room yesterday and made SIX cards.  So let's start with a couple of corny cards, shall we?

I thought of my old favorite set Perfectly Preserved when I saw the AAA Cards Challenge:

So the central theme is on the farm, and I went with the left spoke of crops of fruit or veg.  I've used the apples from Perfectly Preserved much more often than the corn, so today it's the corn's time to shine.  And I actually stamped three ears so I I decided to make a second card while I was at it:

I also used up some scraps of my also favorite Orchard Harvest DSP and I think I still have several unopened packs of it because I am a paper dragon.

Two quick cards that started off my crafting session yesterday.  And these also fit with the theme at the Paper Players of looking forward to fall : )

Okay, the hubs asked for lasagna for dinner tonight so I had to go to the store this morning and I just realized as I typed this sentence that I totally forgot to get ground beef, ugh!  There was someone standing in front of it and so I detoured to pick up the mozzarella cheese and then forgot to go get the beef.  Okay, guess I'm going back to the store.  I even had it written on my list!!  Maybe I'll wait and go get it when I pick Ryan up...

Fabulous Colors for SUO Challenges

Mornin' y'all!  It is time once more for a new challenge from SUO Challenges, and this time we've got some fabulous colors for you:

It would be super easy to go for florals with these colors, but I like to do things the hard way so I decided to go with pumpkins instead:

It's the new Painted Pumpkins bundle again!  This time I did use the big leafy stencil background, and instead of stamping the pumpkin outlines, I used the stencils for those as well.  I don't have any current DSP with Fresh Freesia in it but I found some nice stripes in the retired Toadstool Gardens DSP stack and that's what I used to ground my gourd trio.  A few Fresh Freesia gems and done!

Mornin' y'all, hope your week is off to a good start.  'Member how Ryan had a stomach bug last Friday?  I think he shared it with me, the plague rat, but if he's anything to go by I should be feeling better by tomorrow.

So how about a cute little card today...

I thought of Animal Outing immediately when I saw the new Festive Friday Challenge:

I started out with a lot of Basic Gray and Smoky Slate for neutral colors, but I did add some other colors so I'm not sure if that one still counts.  Side note, I really like the combo of Basic Gray/Smoky Slate, Pool Party, and Shy Shamrock.  Anyway, for the recipe list, I do have stripes, wild animals, and some jungle leaves--I had pulled out Tropical Chic when I did my tropical card for Retro Rubber last week and didn't use it, so it was fun to use it for this card instead.  It took me some time playing around with the placement of the leaves and stripes to get something that I liked.

That's it for now, peeps.  Ryan is supposedly getting ready for school and as soon as he's off I will be off to run some errands.  And then possibly a nap because I'm still feeling this bug that Ryan gave me.  Cheers!

Falling Twice as Hard With The Paper Players

Mornin' ya'll and happy Sunday!  It's time for a new challenge from The Paper Players...hope you enjoyed last week's color combo from Stef, and get ready for a great CAS challenge from Claire!  Here it is:

HECK YEAH I am looking forward to fall!  And I just got a new SU! order with several different packs of fall patterned paper, so here's what I made:

Say hello to the Autumn Opulence DSP, which comes with two sheets of cut-outs and that's where I got the images for my cards.  Yep, I made two; the first one came together so fast I figured why not!  The cut-outs have a wide white border around them, so I trimmed that down a bit, added a simple strip of torn DSP and embossed the greeting with copper embossing powder.

This one's on Early Espresso...

And this one's on Blackberry Bliss.  I love when fall papers include a blue or a purple to ground all the browns, oranges, and reds.  I think this one is a bit less CAS just because the image is so large so it's a good thing I made the pumpkin card, which is definitely clean and simple : )

The Swami's Ring

Happy Saturday and welcome back to the Nancy Drew Challenge!  After an unexpected delay last week, she's back and this time she's investigating #61 The Swami's Ring:

Heyyy we get Nancy with titian hair on two out of the three covers this week, I don't know why after #56 the cover artists switched to making her a boring blonde instead of strawberry blonde.   The one on the left reminds me of The Strange Message in the Parchment with Nancy looking down, and I do like the action scene behind her.  The middle one is just odd with the plain black background; the one on the right is my favorite even though Nancy's just plain blonde on here and I think she should wear a different color shirt as that color isn't really flattering on her.  I like the sense of danger with the creepy guy coming up behind her.

Case file:  Nancy has a multitude of mysteries to contend with this week:  she's looking for clues to the identity of an amnesiac patient at the local hospital; someone tries to choke said amnesiac over a large ring found in his knapsack; Nancy's 5-year-old neighbor Tommy encountered a hit-and-run driver and broke his leg; someone is sabotaging a local music festival and somehow Carson is the suspect (the real mystery is why he's the prime suspect, and unfortunately that one is never solved); and a harpist at said music festival is looking for her missing sister.  All the mysteries seem to lead to a local religious retreat run by someone called Ramaswami.  It's a lot.

Here's my card for the first book:

Did I buy the To A Classic stamp set *just* for this image?  Yes, yes I did (it was only $5!).  I had to use it to make a get well card for little Tommy, who not only broke his leg in two places and hit his head (wear helmets, kids), he had to have surgery for his leg.  Nancy came to visit him in the hospital and gave him a toy car which seemed like an odd choice given that Tommy was almost run over by a car, but I ran with the idea and used a car on my card too.

For my colors, I used Soft Sky, Dapper Denim, Sweet Sorbet, Golden Glow, and Pear Pizzazz, and to incorporate an arch shape I went with a stoplight behind my car image.  This idea came to me in the shower last weekend which is really where all the best ideas originate.

Okay, on to the middle book:

I had to do a musical theme since we have the sabotaged music festival and the harpist looking for her missing sister.  The greeting stamp on this card is the very one that went on walkabout last weekend and frustrated me no end until I finally found it stuck to a sheet protector with the DSP I used on the card.  Anyway, one of the acts of sabotage against the music festival involved someone setting a scorpion loose in a crowded theater, but to my surprise I have zero scorpion stamps.  Also unless that scorpion was the size of a dachshund at least, if not larger, there's no way people would see it in the aisle of a darkened theater but now I am imagining a giant scorpion tootling down the aisle with a bucket of popcorn in his claw to see a production of Oklahoma! so there's that.  (The Drew Crew does go see a production of Oklahoma! in the book.)

For this one, I used Poppy parade, Crushed Curry, and black for my colors and kept the layout very simple given the cover of the book with its plain black background.  And if you're looking for this stamp set, Music From the Heart, I now have an extra one.  Weirdly I have no harp stamps despite having several music-themed stamp sets, but I do have at least one lyre and a lute.  You'd think harps would be more popular.

Yes, I made a "Remember When" card for a book that features an amnesia patient *snicker* I mean really, I am making these cards to entertain myself and this is where my sense of humor leads, so mission accomplished.  So, in the book, Nancy finds a large ring in the amnesiac's knapsack that has a design of interlocking water lilies on it, so that's why I have a water lily on my card.

I used Granny Apple Green, Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral, and Early Espresso for my colors on this card and I really like that die behind the flower.  I think Lovely Lily Pad was a Sale-a-Bration stamp set and they came out with dies later, but I could be misremembering (though I'm pretty sure I do not have amnesia).  Anyway, the dies for this stamp set are pretty cool and I'm glad I've kept it.

I think this book suffers from cramming too many mysteries into one volume even if all the investigations are interconnected.  It also has like a bajillion characters and I can't keep them straight because a lot of them have at least one alias and none of them are particularly well developed.  It reminds me a little bit of Red Gate Farm with the mysterious religious group and I do like the amnesia plotline even if it is a soap opera trope.  I think this one is by a different ghostwriter than the others we've had so far because Nancy is constantly leaping into cars or dashing around places and Ned acts like a whiny baby man for over half the book which made me want to shove him off a cliff like the amnesia patient.  I don't think this is a strong installment in the Drewniverse but I did enjoy making my cards and the image of the scorpion attending the theater that it planted in my brain, so I'm giving it two and a half stars.

Mornin' y'all!  Hope your Friday is off to a good start...Ryan is staying home from school today with a case of the stomach ickies, and hopefully I can keep him quiet and resting for most of the day instead of just playing video games.  I wouldn't say no to a nap my own self but that's just because I woke up a lot last night.  We had a rip-roaring storm roll through around 11:30 last night, which is good because we definitely need the rain.

Anyway, I played with another new stamp set and DSP for today's card, take a looksie:

The stamp set is called Memorable Garden and the DSP is Mosaic Garden, and it has two of the three colors from this week's Creative Colour Challenge in it:

I have been using Crisp Cantaloupe lately but hadn't played much with Hydrangea Hue or Peaceful Pine, so this was fun!  Plus, ya know, new stuff ; )  Both the stamp set and the DSP are currently on preorder.

Gourd-geous!

Mornin' y'all!  I lucked out yesterday, my new stampin' goodies were delivered while I was running errands so I was able to dive right into that box when I got home and LOOK what I made:

Okay for reals, I was all set to skip the Painted Pumpkins bundle because I have quite a few pumpkin stamp sets but then I saw that greeting and that's what did it for me.  What can I say, I am a sucker for a great pun!  This stamp set has dies *and* masks so you can do stenciling on the pumpkins, which I did, I was pretty happy with how the stripes came out.  There's even a large stencil to do a leafy background though I didn't play with that one for today's card.  AND I got the coordinating paper, of course!  Yeah I said recently that I have no more storage space for paper but that didn't stop me from buying five new packs of DSP and none of them were on sale.  I also got several packs of embellishments, so I used the new Radiant Gems on today's card because somehow I accidentally bought two of them but that's okay.

Anyway, this week's Freshly Made Sketch was the perfect jumping-off point to play with my new pumpkins!

Really it was a question of using the pumpkins or the new sunflowers, but the pumpkins won out this time and I'm sure I'll be playing with the sunflowers soon.

Tropical Hello

Mornin' y'all!  We had a much quieter morning here today and Ryan got ready for school in time to ride his bike, so he's happy.  I've already taken Daphne for her walk and I've got a load of dishes in the dishwasher, so after I eat breakfast I can go out and run some errands and hopefully by the time I get back my new fall SU! goodies will be here : )

In the meantime, I have a tropical card: 

For reals, y'all, I am posting lots of FALL stuff starting tomorrow, bring on the warm colors and the fall leaves and the pumpkins and apples and Halloween everything, I am READY.  Anyway, I had to go tropical for the new challenge from Retro Rubber:

As soon as I saw it, Artfully Layered and the coordinating Artfully Composed DSP (both four years old) popped in my head and I had to use them for a card.  The dark strip on the right and the Pale Papaya script pattern were both scraps, but this is the first time I cut into the leafy pattern on the left and I am working on my goal to Just Use The Paper.  I like this week's sketch from Atlantic Hearts:

Once I had chosen that leafy pattern, I had to decide how to use the three green shades.  I chose Just Jade for my card base and main image just because I love that color, Pear Pizzazz is the only one that I had ribbon for so that choice was easy, and then I used Evening Evergreen for the greeting, background die cut, and gems.  All of the greetings in Artfully Layered are pretty large, so I found a teeny-tiny hello in All Year Cheer I and used that.  I think I got all three All Year Cheer stamp sets in the first year I was stamping so they're about 20 years old, how's that for retro!

Mornin' y'all!  Man, Ryan was in a snit this morning.  He was running a little too late to take his bike to school and he was extremely grumpy while I was driving him.  Hopefully he's in a better mood when I pick him up this afternoon.

I know, I said no more summer cards so in my mind this is winter at the beach mmmkay?  Also I get my new box o' fall goodies tomorrow and I am looking forward to that, lemme tell ya.

Anyway, back to my card for today, I thought I'd try to do a smaller scene with Rolling Waves for the Addicted to CAS challenge:

I used Barely Blush, Hydrangea Hue, Soft Succulent, and added some Basic Beige and Whisper White for neutrals.  Last up is the Time Out Challenge:

I was already planning a CAS card, so I decided on birthday for my other option.  I don't make a ton of birthday cards because 95% of what I send out is some form of hi - how ya doin' - thinking of you card, but it's still good to have a stash of other types of cards available.

Ya know, I think I might have to go make me a new cuppa...I'm trying to drink up some of my tea stash and the one I chose this morning is just tasting a bit weird to me today and it could be that it's just too old.  At least it was almost gone so I don't feel bad about tossing the last bit of it out.  So I'm going to go brew a new cuppa and take a look at some other blogs before I get to my chores for the day.  Cheers!

Perseverence

Mornin' y'all!  I have a cup of chestnut tea in front of me and a slice of yesterday's apple coffee cake for breakfast, eating a bit late because I had to drive Ryan to school (he lost his bike helmet somehow yesterday) and then go to the store (the hubs ran out of toothpaste).  So maybe I'm a bit slow getting started on the blog today but we're moving now.

And here's my card for today:

I quite like the inspo pic at Inspired By... this time around:

I zeroed in on the turtle on the upper left, but that frog on the bottom right is super cute too.  And the new sketch from Sunday Stamps is a classic for sure:

For my main image, I inked up the turtle in Soft Succulent and then inked the outside edges with Early Espresso and stamped it.  Then I used blending brushes to apply Soft Succulent and Crumb Cake ink for a distressed look, cut it out, and put it on a scrap of Crumb Cake cardstock cut with the Deckled Rectangles dies.  A perusal of my greeting stamps led me to Stepping Stones and I liked that message so that's what I went with.  The card base is Soft Succulent though it's coming across a bit more blue in the photo.  Still can't find a place to take my card photos that works 100% of the time.

Anyway, that's it for now.  I have a list of things to do today so I'd better get started.  Cheers!

Proud Colors for The Paper Players

Mornin' y'all and happy Sunday!  We had a small but mighty gallery for last week's Paper Players challenge from Jan, and I hope to see lots of players in this week's color challenge from Stef:

I went with Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana, Crumb Cake, and Real Red for my colors, which immediately made me think of the old retired favorite Fresh Prints (...of Bel Air, I can't help it) DSP stack which has the latter three colors in it so that put me three quarters of the way to the color combination.  And you know what I've had on the brain lately?

Yep, I did it, another peacock!  I went through the DSP stack first and I really liked that floral print with three of the colors in it, and the peacock from World Treasures seemed to match the style of artwork so I stamped him in Bermuda Bay to round out the challenge colors.  I did accent some of his feathers with some Coastal Cabana ink, but I kept the card very simple since the pattern is busy and the peacock's tail of course is also a lot visually.  I used a simple strip of Crumb Cake cardstock to ground the peacock and that gave me a place for a simple stamped greeting.  Almost everything I used on this card is retired, but that doesn't mean I can't still use those supplies to play with : )

Mornin' y'all.  Daphne made me get up earlier than I wanted to today so she's lucky she's cute.  Well, I'm up now so I might as well get to doing...as I mentioned yesterday, the Nancy Drew Challenge has been postponed until next week.  Miraculously I DID find the missing stamp yesterday, of course a few hours after I got a shipping notification from the eBay seller who sold me the replacement stamp set, but I only have one card out of the three ready to go so here we are.  At least I found the stamp and I'll just resell the replacement set when it gets here.

I did make an unrelated card to share today though:

The color on the peacock feather isn't showing up so well in this picture, let's try at an angle:

Oh yeaaahhhh.  I used some foil paper (I think it's Bermuda Bay but apparently I don't have the original label) for the die cut peacock feather.  I know I made another peacock card last week but I can't help it when Color Hues has these perfect peacock colors:

I found a pretty monochrome floral pattern in the Regal Winter DSP (one of my favorites) and used that as a backdrop for my feather.  One simple sentiment from the Royal Peacock stamp set and it's done.

Daphne is now giving me side-eye because she wants to go for a walk and it's already starting to get warm outside so we'd better hit the road.  Cheers, y'all!

Flip-Floppin'

Mornin' y'all, and thank goodness it's Friday, I am ready for this week to be over.  I have spent a lot of time this week making phone calls (I hate making phone calls) and trying to get some appointments set up and the whole process has been a long drawn-out frustration and so I decided that today I am taking the day off from all of that and I am going to make some art in my craft room.  First I will need more tea (I always need more tea) so I'd better put the kettle on.

Anyway, I have two cards to share today, so here's the first one:

I made a fall card because I am 100% manifesting fall and summer can go kick rocks, gimme fall colors and pumpkins and apples and baking and Halloween and Thanksgiving and all the good stuff.  But I just wasn't loving that card and I thought you know what, those colors just really want to be a summer card.  So I grumbled and made this:

Same colors and sketch as before, though I changed the sketch to a landscape card because that "Summer Adventures" stamp is so wide.  And this card insisted that it had to be CAS, who am I to argue.  I had thought about entering my Dog Days card in the As You See It challenge:

But I worried that the Dog Days card wasn't quite on theme enough so I didn't, and now here I am with some flip flops which I hadn't used before from the Summer Happiness bundle.  However, I fully intend for this to be my last summer card this year because I am so ready for this summer to be over already, it's been tough with me dealing with bad fatigue issues and just not feeling well in general.  I am ready to turn over a new (fall) leaf, and on Tuesday I placed a nice fat Stampin' Up! order with some fall goodies to make my little goblin heart happy.  There's a bunch of cute Christmas stuff on preorder now too, but I didn't order any of it yet because I want to enjoy fall first.

Yesterday something happened that has never happened before...Calamity has befallen the warcraft room.  I LOST A STAMP.  I was working on a card for the Nancy Drew Challenge and I know I had that stamp, I clearly remember having it out when I was playing with some parts and pieces, but it has disappeared.  Poof.  I spent over an hour looking everywhere I could think of and nothing.  The hubs came home in the middle of me looking through everything on my craft table for the fifth time and bless 'im he said "Just order another one, then you'll find the one you're looking for."  By the end of the evening I was frustrated enough to do just that, but so far my original stamp is still in hiding.  Unless it magically turns up today, the Nancy Drew Challenge will be delayed by one week, which doesn't make me happy, but I think it's worth having the specific stamp I'm looking for and it's my challenge and my blog so I can do that.  Maybe if I stop looking for that lost stamp, it will appear?  One hopes.  Anyway, I am going to do my best today to not worry about the doctor's appointments or the missing stamp and just have fun making some art.  Maybe I'll put out all my fall and Halloween decorations too, that would make me happy.  Cheers, y'all.
