Have a Rainbow Day

Mornin' y'all!  How's your week going so far?

When I was little, my mom decorated my room with rainbows.  I still have the rainbow afghan she made for me.  So when I got the Paper Pumpkin kit with rainbows in it, I had to bust it open.  Usually I get the Paper Pumpkin kits and forget about them (oops).  The projects are cute, but for today's card I took parts and pieces from the kit and made this:

Helloooooo In Colors!  That's Just Jade on the left, and Magenta Madness on the right.  The jade piece was from the kit and the magenta is the new In Color DSP.  The clouds are lightly sponged with Misty Moonlight (there was an ink spot in the kit) and the sentiment and accent were in the kit as well.  I needed smaller clouds though so I used some retired dies for those.

I really ought to use those Paper Pumpkin kits more often :)  Check ya later, peeps!

SUO Challenges: Color Challenge

Goooood morning stampy friends!  I just finished a Turbo Kick workout so I'm really awake now :D  And today we have a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around, it's a color challenge!  Check it out:

I admit I was a little stumped when I first saw these three colors together.  Whenever that happens, I take a look at my stamp shelves and just let my eyes wander over the stamp sets until one of the sets pings.  In this case, it was Seaside Notions.  So here's what I made:

The background was easy to make, all it took was a couple of sponges and a torn piece of scratch paper.  I sponged the whole background and then cut it into three pieces.  At first I was going to offset the strips (high, low, high), but I ended up liking the way it looked as a triptych so I kept it all on one level.  I stamped the shells with Soft Suede and then colored them in with Petal Pink Stampin' Blends.  Did you know you could use the Stampin' Blends on images stamped with any of the regular ink pads??  I learned that from someone else's blog, I think Brian King.  Anyway, when I colored in the shells, I didn't worry about making it perfect, I just swiped color on quickly and let it be a little free-form.  Then I stamped the sentiment and flagged the end of it, stuck everything down, and voila!  I think the colors look pretty darn good together!

Pirate Party

Mornin' y'all!  I just finished a bit of Monday morning yoga...it was all about relaxation and I was really getting into it and then...Ryan starts yelling that he's ready to get up 30 minutes early.  Thanks, kid!  I did get to finish my yoga practice but Ryan is ready to start his day :p

I was very productive this weekend.  I did about 8 loads of laundry, put it all up, did journaling on eight scrapbook layouts, and took pictures of the giant stack of finished layouts.  And I got to work on my next two, and read a bit, and worked on my stitching, and made dinner on Saturday and Sunday, so yep, pretty productive!  The layout I'm sharing today is one I finished a while back:

After I stamped the title, I was very sad I didn't do "Pirate Parrrrty", but not sad enough to redo it all.  You can see the original pictures here.  I had fun pulling out that skull patterned paper and the pirate stamps.  It's a little hard to tell, but the skull next to the title is embossed in white, and the crossed swords are embossed in Smoky Slate EP.  I loved the colored embossing powders, one little pot will last me a long time.

Today's color palette includes Basic Black, Kiwi Kiss, Taken with Teal, Riding Hood Red, and Whisper White.  Fun and colorful, right?

Ryan: Five Months

Mornin' y'all and happy Saturday!  The hubs and the spawn are in the next room playing with the Wii, which we've gotten out for the first time in years :)  And here I am with another one of Ryan's baby book layouts:

I LOOOOOOOOVED this outfit so I had to use it for the monthly photo shoot for July.  The stars & stripes bow tie!!!  I love that picture on the left page where he's laying on the afghan and kicking his feet up, so adorable.  The two pics on the bottom right are Ryan checking out Mirror Baby, who was a big favorite at that age.  I had so many pictures I wanted to put on this layout that I didn't have much room for stamping or patterned paper, but I did use some non-SU paper in there (they need more stars & stripes stuff!).  If you clicky da picky, you'll see that the pattern is postage stamps, mainly in red, white, and blue.  Very cute.

My quintessentially patriotic color palette today is Riding Hood Red, Brilliant Blue, Basic Gray, and Whisper White.

Les Fleurs En Francais

Mornin', y'all!  My card today is a bit of a blast from the past.

For some reason, Field Flowers has been on my mind this week so I decided to ink it up for today's triple challenge creation.  I used the colors from CAS Colours & Sketches:

I managed to get some nice depth of color by stamping off some, stamping some things twice, and using sponges, all with just those three ink pad colors.  And the flower has been Wink of Stella'd, though you can't tell from the picture; I added the rhinestones for a bit more sparkle.

Fluttering By

Mornin' y'all!  Yesterday the new SU! catty went live, and I placed a big fat order...that will be the last one I do before we move, so I got most of my must-haves right up front.  For the past couple of years I've limited myself to one or two stamp sets when the new catalog debuts, and I liked that because it let me focus on just a couple of stamp sets and have some fun with them.  Sometimes if I order a whole bunch of sets at one time, it takes me forever to work my way around to all of them.  (Uhh, I have a few newly-retired sets that I haven't inked up yet and I got them last month.)

But for today, I pulled out a stamp set I've had for a while and got to work on a summery card:

I started with the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches:

I subbed in the Stitched Nested Labels dies for the diamond since SU I don't think has done diamond dies yet.

I was inspired by the Retro Rubber Challenge, they're what made me pull out an "older" stamp set:

Butterfly Gala has been in my collection for over a year, so it counts as retro.  I figure being outside and watching for butterflies is a perfect summer activity provided it's not eleventy-billion degrees outside with a zillion percent humidity.  Happily, choosing summery colors was a snap thanks to the Color Throwdown:

I used Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie, and Real Red for my colors, with a healthy pop of Basic Black for contrast.

Hawaiian Chic Birthday

Mornin' y'all.  I didn't get nearly enough sleep last night, but I'm rising...and today's card is shining :D I had to give Tropical Chic another go before it retires tomorrow, I love this stamp set.  (I almost never get rid of stamp sets, but I do tend to use what's current for cards...everything is fair game on scrapbook pages!)

I also love AAALLLLLLLL the stitched dies!  I used both the stitched rectangles and the Stitched So Sweetly dies.  There's another stitched labels set in the new catalog which will definitely be joining my collection sometime soon.

Anyway, my card is a tropical triple challenge today.  Let's start with the Paper Players:

I did the top row, and chose my colors based on the Fusion inspiration pic:

I liked the pink, aqua, pale orange combination, and I added in darker blue for the sky as well.  Finally, this fits in the Global Design Project theme challenge:

I added some Wink of Stella to the flowers on my card to up the girly factor.  Who doesn't like a bit of sparkle?

I've got 10 minutes before I get the kiddo up, so I'm going to enjoy the quiet while it lasts.  Cheers, y'all!
