Stained Glass Birthday

Hey y'all, how's it going?  I've got a lot of stuff to do today...gotta do LOTS of laundry and dishes, and the hubs has requested baked spaghetti for dinner so that takes a while to make.  Better get my roller skates on.

Let's start off with a card and then I'll get to work ;)

Painted Glass is another stamp set on the retiring list.  It's beautiful and I haven't used it nearly as much as I thought I would...but it seemed like a good idea for the Global Design Project sketch:

I used the colors from Color Throwdown:

I used Blackberry Bliss, Berry Burst (retired), and Blushing Bride, so today's blog post is brought to you by the letter B.  The sketch made me think of the Color Theory DSP that we had a couple of years ago, and one of the colors was Berry Burst, so that's where the idea for my card started.

So that stained glass window image makes me think of a quote from The Princess Bride:  "I'd just as soon destroy a stained glass window as an artist like yourself.  However, since I can't have you following me either..." *The Man In Black knocks Inigo on the head*

Okay, sounds like the washer is done with the first load, and all the dirty dishes in the sink are ready to get washed, so I'd better get with it.  Have a great day, peeps!

Fastest Florals in the East

Mornin' y'all!  How's your day going so far?  I just made a mess in the kitchen when the blender exploded...at least it was soapy water and not chocolate shake everywhere!  Ehh, it was time to clean the counters anyway.

I had a bit of time in my craft room yesterday and made a quick card.  I wanted to do the speed stamping challenge from As You See It, so it really was quick!

The challenge was to make a card in 10 minutes or less featuring flowers.  Mine took 7 minutes, 7 seconds, and I had to stamp the sentiment multiple times because it was crooked :p  I pulled out my papers, stamp, and ink before I started the timer, but this still might be the quickest card ever.  I love that Best Dressed DSP stack so I'm trying to use more of it before the new catalog comes along and I forget about older stuff in the face of all the new!

SUO Challenges: It's Yo Birthday

Howdy, folks!  I just found enough batteries to put in Ryan's RC car and I am officially The Best Mama Ever (for at least the next 10 minutes).  In other good news, it's time for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

I have a feeling you'll like this one: make a birthday card!  Who doesn't need an extra birthday card or two in their stash?

I busted out Piece of Cake, which is on the retirement list.  It's got a variety of fun cakes to choose from and some cheeky sentiments too ;) I paired it with the Birthday Bonanza DSP and here's what I came up with:

I think Pineapple Punch is probably the happiest color ever, but Mango Melody is pretty close.  I took my colors directly from my scraps of DSP and ended up with Mango Melody, Daffodil Delight, Coastal Cabana, and Bermuda Bay.  And now I have a birthday card that's suitable for pretty much anyone.

The North Shore

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I didn't get quite as much done this weekend as I wanted to...yesterday I was just SO exhausted that when Ryan went into Quiet Time I pretty much fell into a coma ;)  But I slept pretty good last night so hopefully I'm ready to tackle this week.

On to the scrapbook pages!  Thanks to the Timeless Tropical suite in the Occasions catalog, I finished all my Hawaii pages.

See the pics up close here.  It was pure happenstance that we saw the sea turtles--we had stopped to take pictures along a stretch of beach and saw a small crowd off to the side.  Turns out everyone was looking at the sea turtles :)  Members of a conservation group were there to keep people from getting too close, but we were allowed close enough to get some really fantastic pictures.

Today's color palette is Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz, Pool Party, Grapefruit Grove, Old Olive, Basic Black, and Whisper White.  Melon Mambo isn't in the Tropical Oasis DSP, but I thought it played nicely with the patterns I used on this layout.

Ryan just asked if he could get up, so we're getting this Monday started.  Cheers, y'all!

Ryan: Three Months

Hey y'all!  How's your Saturday starting off?  Ryan is in the living room watching Paw Patrol and I'm making some tea, so pretty much like every other day ;)  Yesterday Ryan stole my mug and drank half my tea so today I'm making a BIG mug.  Stinker.

So let's flash back to when he was a teeny little stinker!

For these pictures, I dressed him in a onesie with airplanes on it, hence the theme of the layout.  For these  layouts in his book, I had fun coordinating my scrapbook products with Ryan's wardrobe.  Even working on more recent pictures of him, there's SO MUCH red so I'm constantly trying to think up new fun color combos with Real Red.  But anyway.

Today's color palette is not red at all:  Pool Party, Night of Navy, Cucumber Crush, and Whisper White.  I still pull out Cucumber Crush on the regular for scrapbook pages.  Oh, we got a peek at the upcoming In Colors and I can't wait to get them in my hot little hands!

So Long, Octopus

Hey y'all!  Been quiet on the blog lately, but I've been working on stitching projects and just hadn't been in my craft room very much the past couple of days.  But I'm back today with a quick card!

SU! released the retirement list this week, and my octo-buddy is on it.  Two years ago, Sea of Textures was one of the first two stamp sets I bought when that year's catalog debuted--I just love this guy!  Of course, I pretty much don't get rid of stamps so he's got a permanent home with me.

I liked this week's sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch:

Okay, so I took some liberties with the sketch by adding the octopus as a layer.  A couple of weeks ago, the CAS(E) this Sketch team picked one of my cards as a challenge favorite, that's always fun!

Next up is this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Night of Navy, Pineapple Punch, Crumb Cake, and Granny Apple Green.  As it happens, I opened up my stamp case and I already had the yellow and green octopus stamped and die cut, so that made this card really quick to put together.  Sometimes I save extra pieces in the stamp case, and sometimes I stamp things on scratch paper and use them as kinda placeholders to see how things will look before I commit to stamping (especially alphabets for scrapbook pages).

Last up is this week's Retro Rubber Challenge:

Sea of Textures is two years old.  Well, maybe a bit shy of two years, I think I got it in the summertime, but close to two years anyway.  I've got some more photographs from aquariums coming up to scrapbook, so I'm sure my octo-buddy will be getting inky again soon :)

If you're curious, this is the cross stitch project I finished earlier this week!  This is one of the Pretty Little Cities patterns from Satsuma Street.  I have a dozen of them, and this is the third one I've made for myself.  All the other ones are for places I've been, but I haven't visited India (yet).  This is more in honor of my friend Neelu, one of my favorite people in the world; we became friends in 7th grade when her family moved to my hometown and she was a bridesmaid in my wedding.  Sadly she lost a battle with cancer a few years ago.  This makes me think of her every time I look at it.

Kirkcudbright

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  And I have been scrappin'.  I even took pictures of my latest pages yesterday so today's is hot off the presses!  Here it is:

The pictures are from a trip to Scotland in May 2014; the three pics on the left are from MacLellan's Castle in Kirkcudbright, and the other two are from somewhere in the Scottish countryside (we drove around a lot on this particular trip).  I made another layout from this trip but I need to have a 5x7 printed to finish it off.  You can see two other layouts from this trip if you click here and here.  I'm using the same alphabet stamps for the page titles on all of the layouts, which helps make them feel like they go together without using the same colors on each layout.

Speaking of colors, here is today's palette:  Dusty Durango, Old Olive, So Saffron, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla.  I loooooooooove these colors together.  I tend to skip around a lot when I scrap, so sometimes I'll use a color or stamp set on multiple layouts in a row but they won't be near each other when I eventually put all the books together.  I've got another layout on my table right now using Dusty Durango and a different pattern from this same DSP pack, I just liked them so much here I had to use them on something else ;)

I still have lots and lots of older pictures to scrap, but I want to get pages done from after Ryan was born too, so I alternate back and forth between them.  I still skip all over with the older photos, but I've been working chronologically on the post-Ryan layouts, so all of 2017 is DONE and I'm up to October 2018.  Woohoo!
