Church of the Spilled Blood

Scrappy Monday, folks!  And since it's Memorial Day, I thought I'd share a scrapbook layout about a different kind of memorial.

This was one of the churches we visited in St. Petersburg during our 2014 Baltic cruise; after Tsar Alexander II was assassinated in 1881, the Romanov family had the church built on the site of the assassination.  The interior is covered with amazing and beautiful mosaics.

Today's color palette:  Crushed Curry, Cherry Cobbler, Tranquil Tide, Midnight Muse, and Whisper White.  This is when I discovered that all my Midnight Muse markers are dried out.  I haven't invested in the new SU! markers yet, but that is in the plans.

Have a great day, folks.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Letterpress Alphabet, Rough Edges Alphabet, Positive Thoughts
Ink:  Tranquil Tide, Midnight Muse, Cherry Cobbler, Night of Navy marker
Paper:  Crushed Curry textured, Tranquil Tide, Thick Basic White, Dashing Along DSP

Night at the Lagoon

This week has been even more chaotic than I thought it would be when I scheduled posts for this week--on Tuesday morning Ryan came down with PINKEYE.  I had to take him to the ER on Tuesday morning (didn't have time to wait to get an appointment at the pediatrician) and we got back to the house ten minutes before the hubs had to leave to sell his car.  Ryan is doing better now but it seemed to be a worse case than what he had back in February.  Man, this move has been stressful!

Anyway, I got four new stamp sets last week right before I packed up my craft room, and I managed to squeeze in just enough craft time to make a card or two with each of the stamp sets.  Today's card features two of my new acquisitions, Night of Flight and Next Destination:

And the Inked Botanicals DSP for that matter, which I used for a lot of the cards I made.  I'll be sharing those over the next few weeks so it's not just crickets chirping here on my blog while all the stuff is in transit to Texas.

Lucky for me, this card fits in the current Paper Players challenge:

I used the second-largest moth stamp from the hostess set Night of Flight, for some reason this stamp set is really appealing to me.  I used Blends to color it in, though when I get my next craft room set up I'll have to try embossing the moths on colored cardstock and see what other looks I can come up with.

Hope your week is less chaotic than ours is.  And to think, we're going to be moving again a year from now!  I'm exhausted just thinking about it.  Oh well, needs must.  Cheers!

P.S. Joanne, if you happen to read this, my craft room is all packed up and on its way to America, but I still managed to make a cup of tea this morning because I still have my electric kettle : ) Priorities!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Night of Flight, Next Destination
Ink:  Night of Navy, Lost Lagoon, Stampin' Blends in Lost Lagoon & Pool Party
Paper:  Pool Party (card base, which you can't see), Thick Basic White, Inked Botanicals DSP Stack
Accessories:  Deckled Rectangles dies

Cherry Lemonade

Mornin' y'all!  We are in the thick of the pack-out process, but I absolutely made the most of my limited crafting time last week and made several cards on Thursday and Friday before everything went bananas starting this Monday.  So here's one of the cards I made:

I was inspired by the mood board at Hand-Stamped Sentiments:

All those lemons made me reach for Lemon Lolly as the card base, but I decided to go with a cherry rather than a strawberry or blueberry.  Hey, it's all berries, right?  And I just like the Sweetest Cherries stamp set.  Plus, how great do Lemon Lolly and Sweet Sorbet look together!

Have a great day, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Sweetest Cherries, Share a Milkshake
Ink:  Versamark, Sweet Sorbet, Lemon Lime Twist
Paper:  Lemon Lolly, Starry Sky, Sweet Sorbet, Thick Basic White, Bright & Beautiful DSP

Under the Sea with SUO Challenges

Mornin' y'all!  It's day two of our pack out and I'm already ready to be done with the moving process already.  Every time we move I think we have too much stuff and yet we always seem to accumulate more!

Anyway, it is time for another challenge from SUO Challenges!

Our theme this time around is Under the Sea...use shades of blue and/or sea creatures.  I didn't get the current oceanic stamp set (well, I do have On the Ocean, but today's challenge is about under the waves) so I went with blues for my card:

I figure that this plant might very well be an undersea type of thing so why not?  Also I continue my love affair with Azure Afternoon paired with Blueberry Bushel.  The background pattern is from the Bright & Beautiful DSP stack, true to its name it has lots of bright colors in it and I've been having some fun playing with the different patterns.  This watercolor wash was perfect for the challenge theme.

Hope you'll take a dive into this challenge and upload your card at the SUO Challenges blog.  As Sebastian says, it's better down where it's wetter, take it from meeeeee!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Nature's Prints
Ink:  Blueberry Bushel, Azure Afternoon, Versamark
Paper:  Azure Afternoon, Blueberry Bushel, Thick Basic White, Bright & Beautiful DSP Stack
Accessories:  Natural Prints dies, white EP, Dimensionals, white sequins

Sweet Home Alabama

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  This is it, everything really kicks in to high gear today:  the packers arrive.  It's going to be a crazy week of having the house packed up and all that chaos that goes along with moving (especially moving overseas, from Germany back to the States).  So anyway, I thought I'd share a layout from a different move, when we arrived in Alabama after three and a half years in England.

Okay that pic of the hubs playing with the undergarments to my wedding dress makes me giggle, and really there could be no other title for these pictures than Sweet Home Alabama.  And I miss my sweet little Vader.  In the lower left corner, I included one of the address labels that I used for the 10 months that we lived there; I always get address labels every time we move and I have an entire stack of labels from all our previous addresses.  When we stop being nomadic, maybe I'll make a layout of nothing but the different address labels and pics of each house...I hope I *took* pics of all the houses!  Hmm.

Today's color palette:  Azure Afternoon, Crumb Cake, Poppy Parade, and Blueberry Bushel.  I'm going to need A LOT of Azure Afternoon 12x12 cardstock, I love it!  Missy was asking me what my favorite new SU! color is, and Azure Afternoon was the first to pop in my head.  Though I have really enjoyed playing with all the new core colors (and I've kind of ignored the new In Colors because they are comparatively dull and boring).

Anyway, time for me to supervise the pack-out of my craft room.  Send chocolate.  No, wait, don't--I mailed two large boxes of chocolate to Texas last week so that it wouldn't spend months in a shipping crate and leave me with a sad chocolate puddle on the other side.  Who has TWENTY-SEVEN POUNDS of chocolate in their house as a matter of course?  Me, apparently.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Sweet Shoppe Alphabet Upper & Lower, Metro Type, Be the Star, Paris in the Spring
Ink:  Azure Afternoon, Blueberry Bushel
Paper:  Azure Afternoon, Poppy Parade, Blueberry Bushel, Crumb Cake, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Stars dies

Cards for Peking

On Thursday I actually did manage to get several things done, and I rewarded myself with a bit of time in my craft room.  On Thursday morning, Ryan informed me that it was Peking's birthday--Peking is his favorite duck stuffie, and previously he had the same birthday as Ryan only he was a year younger.  Apparently ducks' birthdays are more changeable than people's birthdays.  So Ryan told me that Peking liked the color yellow, ducks, Batman, and Spiderman, and charged me with making a birthday card for him.

Yeah, I made a card for a stuffed animal.

I pulled out Barnyard Babies for this because it has a duckling stamp, and it fit in well with the Retro Rubber tic-tac-toe challenge.  And because I cannot resist a good pun, the inside says "Hope your day is just ducky!"  Here's the challenge graphic:

I went down the left side, with birthday, circle punches, and watercolor pencils to color the ducklings.  Thought it would be fun to break out the Butterfly Kisses DSP Stack again.  Barnyard Babies joined my collection in 2016, so it's a year older than Ryan ; )

The little duckling stamp also fit with the latest Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch:

So this was a fun card to put together as a diversion from the moving chaos, which is getting more chaotic by the day.  When Ryan got home, he was excited to see Peking's card, and he also wanted to make one himself, so he did.

Gotta love the fake smile.  You can see part of Peking on the craft table, too.  He's looking a bit shabby since he's been Ryan's daily companion for nearly all of Ryan's life.

And here is Ryan's creation:

He decided to stamp the chicks for his other stuffie, Chickie-Boo, and the ducklings for Peking.  I told him I didn't have Ryan stamps or Mama and Daddy stamps, so he drew the people on there, and lots and lots of hearts because he loves his duck.  Here's the inside:

Okay I am ded of teh cute.  At first he wanted to dictate to me what to write, but I encouraged him to do the writing and I just told him how to spell.  That word with the backwards Z is "amazing".  And the card is currently standing up on the windowsill in Ryan's room where Peking can see it.

For real now, I need to start packing things up in the craft room.  Ryan did help start on the ink pads on Thursday afternoon...I always rubber band them shut and then put each one in a plastic baggie just in case the ink pad leaks.  I've done this for every move for the last 15+ years and since we move so often I just keep the plastic baggies and rubber bands in a storage tote and reuse them.  And only once have I had an ink pad leak, but it was all contained in the baggie.

Maybe I'll make one last card before I pack 'em up stack 'em up...

Supplies, my card:
Stamps:  Barnyard Babies
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:  Crushed Curry, Starry Sky, Calypso Coral, Parakeet Party, Thick Basic White, Butterfly Kisses DSP Stack
Accessories:  Circle punches, watercolor pencils, Dimensionals

Guest Designer: Countryside Thoughts

Bonus blog post!  I am honored to be the guest designer at As You See It Challenges today!  This time around it's a recipe challenge, take a look:

As soon as I saw "flowers" and "shades of blue", I thought of the Countryside Inn DSP which I haven't played with a lot yet, so of course that was my first pick for my card.  Here's what I made:

I started by cutting out the white frame with the Deckled Rectangles dies, and then used different sizes of the same dies for other elements on the card front.  Luckily I have some Night of Navy ribbon that looks great with the patterned paper, and I tied that around my frame.  So I had all of the background elements picked out, and then had to think for a bit about what to use for the main image and sentiment.  I landed on Nature's Prints, because it's always fun to play with that one and I thought it went well with the DSP.

I hope you'll join in the fun at As You See It Challenges, and thanks again to the AYSI team for inviting me to play along as a guest designer.  I'll be back in a couple of months once my new craft room is set up after the move.  Cheers!

Festive Owl

Another quick card to share today, because I'm still having fun playing with a few of the new colors, and a retired Sale-a-Bration set just because these owls really ARE adorable, check it out:

I started off with the latest challenge from Festive Friday:

From the list, I used yellow, black (the owl is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black), happy sentiment, and enamel dots.  The dots are Bumblebee but seemed to coordinate okay with the Lemon Lolly elements on my card.  I paired that with this sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday:

For the background layers, I went really simple and just tore the edges on a scrap of DSP, then layered it on a cardstock mat.

That's it for me today, cheers!

Friendly Botanicals

Okay, so far Ryan is 3 for 3 this week in getting out of school.  I know he wasn't feeling good on Monday so I kept him home, I think he had a legitimate reason for having the nurse call me on Tuesday to pick him up after he'd been there for only an hour, but yesterday I 100% think he bamboozled the nurse so he could get out of school.  Since I was fairly sure he was just fine, he got dragged along with me to do several errands so at least the day wasn't a total waste for getting things done.

And I got to pick up my little SU! order from the post office, and I made a fast card while Ryan was in the tub last night.

The new Inked & Tiled set reminds me so much of the old Petal Prints set, which I still love and apparently most of the cards I made for it predate this blog so just trust me on that one.  Anyway, I had to get this new stamp set, and though I opted out of buying the punches I did buy the coordinating paper.

I quite like this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the springy Color Throwdown:

I used Petal Pink, Lemon Lime Twist, white, and just a smidgen of Calypso Coral for a darker pink hue.  My LLT ink pad is extra juicy so it always stamps darker than I expect.  Looking forward to playing more with this stamp set and the other three that I just got...but first I really DO have to get some stuff done, since Ryan has effectively kept me from doing much this week.  He'd better stay in class for the entire school day today...

Cheers!

Timmy the Timid Turtle

Okay so this week is just not going to spec so far...I got Ryan off to school yesterday and then got a call at nine o'clock to come and get him because he wasn't feeling well.  Thankfully he seems like he's doing better today and was happy to get on the bus this morning, so fingers crossed that I can get some things done today!

While Ryan was couch-bound yesterday and watching cartoons, I finished up a quick card to share today.  Here's Timmy the Timid Turtle.

He just looks like he's a bit worried about something, don't you think?  I used the Paper Players color challenge for this week:

I used Bubble Bath for my pink (though admittedly it kinda rides the line between pink and purple), Soft Sea Foam, Smoky Slate, and just a bit of black for the turtle.  Oh, for the spots on Timmy's shell, I colored them in with the light Old Olive Blend, then went over it with a Soft Sea Foam Blend, which gave me an interesting color I think.  Just experimenting.

I like the sketch from Just Add Ink this week too:

My sentiment strip doesn't go across the card as far as on the sketch, but I think I kept to the spirit of the thing anyway.  Sending Smiles is my go-to for sentiments that fit a long thin spot on a sketch.

Okay, I'm off to be productive.  I've got a bunch of things to box up to mail today and my SU! order somehow miraculously made it here early : ) So I get to pick that up when the post office opens.  But I only get to play with the new stuff if I can get some other things done first.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Playing in the Rain, Sending Smiles
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Bubble Bath, Soft Sea Foam, Smoky Slate, Stampin' Blends in Bubble Bath, Soft Sea Foam, Old Olive, Smoky Slate

Mermaid Magic

Well, yesterday did not go to plan...I got up early and did my workout as per usual, and just as I was getting in the shower Ryan ran past me to the toilet and threw up.  So he stayed home from school yesterday and I didn't get anything done, except for making one card while he was mostly parked on the couch watching Ladybug & Cat Noir.  So here's my card for today:

I saw this challenge from Cupcake Inspirations, and it reminded me of some Sweet November stamps that I've had in my stash for *years* so that's where the mermaid and seahorse are from.  They're actually a single (very large) stamp.  So here's the cupcake challenge:

And I loved the colors from Sunday Stamps to go with:

I used Magenta Madness, Starry Sky, Lemon Lolly, and Smoky Slate for my colors.  I would have gone with Berry Burst, but I don't have the Blends in that color yet (they're on the way), so I used the pinker Magenta Madness instead.  I actually had to color the mermaid twice...the first time, I made the starfish in her hair Starry Sky, and they just blended in too much.  The Lemon Lolly starfish look much better.

I CASEd the card layout from Amy Koenders.  I love her card, and that DSP she used is also on its way to me right now : )

Okay, so I really should try to get some things done today.  Wish me luck!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Sweet November mermaid & seahorse, Pure Magic
Ink:  Starry Sky, Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin' Blends in Smoky Slate, Basic Black, Lemon Lolly, Starry Sky, Magenta Madness, Petal Pink

Cliffs of the Neuse

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  This week will be my last chance to do anything in my craft room as the packers get here NEXT MONDAY to start packing up all our stuff.  And really I should *probably* be getting stuff ready for that to happen, so I don't know how much stamping I'll get to do.  Guess we'll see how well I can manage my time this week.

Anyway!  I do have some scrapbook pages to share today, take a look:

Awww, Ryan was so little : )  These pics were taken in May of 2020 at the Cliffs of the Neuse State Park in North Carolina.  I figured we should probably go there once before we moved out of NC, so we did.  Just did a little hike, looked at the river, and took a couple of silly pictures.

Today's very fun color palette was inspired by my outfit because I like colors : )  Pixie Pink (though Polished Pink would have worked just fine too), Shaded Spruce, Parakeet Party, Starry Sky, Tempting Turquoise, and white.  Umm, I don't know if Starry Sky is my favorite blue, or if it's Azure Afternoon...guess it's a tie.

Okay, Imma go be productive.  Wish me luck!

Dancing in the Rain

Happy Friday, y'all!  And my last day working at Arts & Crafts, too.  And then next week it's all about prepping for the packers to come on the 22d.  Going to be busy, busy, busy for the rest of the month!

Which is exactly why I am squeezing out every possible minute in my craft room before all my stuff gets packed up.  So here's my card for today:

So I started with this week's Color Throwdown:

File this under "colors I would never put together in a million years".  Actually the only one that had me flummoxed was the lilac shade, I like orange and aqua together just fine, but that lilac shade definitely threw me for a loop.  In the end, I went with Pumpkin Pie, Azure Afternoon, Wisteria Wonder (retired), and Memento Tuxedo Black for stamping the bunny.  I paired that with this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

So I was pondering what on earth to do with those colors and this sketch and I was in the shower yesterday morning (because naturally most good ideas occur while in the shower) and I remembered this week's Paper Players theme challenge:

And that made me think of the bunny dancing in the rain and suddenly I figured out how to make the colors work together.  I managed to make this entire card in the space of about 20 minutes before work yesterday.  So thank you to the Paper Players for pulling together those other two challenges and making my brain work : )

I'm off to work for the last time (at this job, anyway).  Have a great day, peeps!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Playing in the Rain, Rhino Ready
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Wisteria Wonder, Azure Afternoon, Stampin' Blends in Smoky Slate, Pumpkin Pie, Flirty Flamingo, Azure Afternoon

Firefly Lights

Mornin' y'all!  Once again I woke up at four o'clock this morning...but knowing that Ryan starts school an hour later on Thursdays, I convinced my brain to stay in bed until 5:30.  Hey, it's an improvement over getting up at 4!

I've got a pretty simple card to share today.

My SIL is a realtor and she's been helping us look for a house to rent in Texas, so this card will be for her once we get there.  I thought of the fireflies immediately when I saw the sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday:

And of course that Pretty Peacock pattern is from the Bright & Beautiful DSP Stack.  That's a versatile set of papers for sure!  I started with the Pretty Peacock stripes and paired them with a Pool Party card base and Night of Navy fireflies, with a bit of Lemon Lolly for the glow.  I definitely need to play around with Lighting the Way a bit more.

Well, time to get ready for my next-to-last day at work.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!

Fashion-Forward Fox

Mornin' y'all!  My day got off to a ridiculously early start...my alarm is set to go off at 5:15 (I like to do my workout before we get Ryan up at 6) but lately I've been waking up between 4:00 and 4:30, and can't get back to sleep before the alarm.  Arrrrgh!  So of course in the evenings I want to go to bed at like 8:00, if not earlier.  And if my blog posts seem a bit incoherent, now you know why.

Anyway.  The Paper Players have a very timely challenge this week, it's been wet and rainy for the past few days (I just got my car all clean, that's why it's raining so much).  So let's celebrate some rainy days.

As always, some fun inspiration pics on the challenge graphic!  So here's what I made:

Two of the ladies on the design team used this same fox but I couldn't resist her, I love her.  Once again I busted out my favorite Bright & Beautiful DSP Stack and pulled colors from that.  I've got quite a stack of scraps from that paper already, and I ended up finding three that were just the right widths for a triptych layout.  After I colored in Ms. Vixen's hat and rain coat, it occurred to me that the combination of Bubble Bath and Fresh Freesia is what Maid Marian wears in Disney's Robin Hood (one of my favorites!).  And her umbrella is the color of Robin Hood's outfit, too.  I think I need to rewatch that movie now.

Have a great day, peeps!  If my day goes like yesterday, I will have ample opportunity to listen to the rain come down : )  Which is great, as long as I don't have to be out in it.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Playing in the Rain, Rhino Ready
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versamark, Stampin' Blends in Pumpkin Pie, Lemon Lime Twist, Fresh Freesia

SUO Challenges: A Sketch Adventure

It's time for another challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around we're doing a sketch and I think it's a fun one!

And here's what I made:

Okay for reals, I love this card.  I have been having fun playing with Azure Afternoon (I cannot overstate how much I love this new blue) and for this card I paired it with the new Pecan Pie for the ship and returning Blueberry Bushel for the waves and the birds.  Blueberry Bushel seems to come out darker on the Azure Afternoon cardstock, it almost looks navy but I promise it isn't.  I like the On the Ocean stamp set and dies and I went back and forth about whether or not to buy them, obviously "buy them" won out ; ) Had to get them before the bundle pricing went away.

Confession time:  I came up with this sketch when I made this card a while ago:

I made this back in January when I was putting together a baby basket for a gal who works for my husband (had to keep it gender neutral since the mama wanted to be surprised, she had a boy!).  I was a bit surprised that SU! retired Happier than Happy after just one year, but it will live on forever in my stamp collection so that's okay.

So there's the sketch two ways : ) Hope you'll have some fun with it too and post your card over on the SUO Challenges blog.  Enjoy, stampy friends!

Supplies, first card:
Stamps:  On the Ocean
Ink:  Azure Afternoon, Blueberry Bushel, Pecan Pie, Whisper White
Paper:  Azure Afternoon, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  On the Ocean dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Dimensionals

Supplies, second card:
Stamps:  Happier than Happy
Ink:  Soft Suede, Calypso Coral
Paper:  Pale Papaya, Thick Basic White, Happy Forest Friends DSP

Once More, In Purple

Hey y'all, Scrappy Monday is on hold for this week because our packers arrive two weeks from today and I am over here trying to stamp cards for as many challenges as possible before they pry my supplies out of my little grabby hands.  Plus I had a third rhino stamp and I just couldn't leave her out of the technicolor goodness so I made this:

I was inspired by Tammy's beautiful card at Inspire. Create.:

Tammy is one of my teammates over at SUO Challenges so I'm extra tickled to see her card featured as a CASE the Designer challenge.  Congrats, Tammy!  I traded her pinks for purple (Bubble Bath kind of rides the line between purple and pink, it's pinple...or PUNK) and used more of the most excellent Bright & Beautiful DSP Stack for my background panels.  And I chose purples thanks to the pretty inspo pic from Just Add Ink:

No hearts or flowers or cookies on my card, but I think that little rhino is just as sweet as any of those things.  Finally, I'm entering at the As You See It challenge:

Rhino Ready and the Bright & Beautiful DSP were both in my most recent SU! order, so they are the newest additions to my craft room.  I did order a few things on May 2 and I'm worried I won't get them before we pack out, oops!  I'll figure out something.  Anyway, in happy news, the AYSI team chose my card as the winner of their last challenge, which was super exciting!  Thank you, AYSI team!

Okay, I should probably go do *something* to prep for the move...like pack up my retired ink pads.  And another load of laundry because there's always another load of laundry to do.  Have a great day, peeps!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Rhino Ready
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin' Blends in Fresh Freesia & Bubble Bath

Technicolor Rhino #2

Okay kids, we made it to Friday!  I had a dinner thing to go to last night and as a result I went to bed about an hour later than usual...yeah I was still awake at 4:30 this morning.  I'm going to be super tired this afternoon I bet.

In the meantime, I just finished up another Technicolor rhino card...because as they always say, one good Technicolor rhino deserves another.  I'm just kidding, no one says that, but maybe they should.

I really liked the color combo from CAS Colours & Sketches:

My card does have a few layers to it so I hope it's still CAS enough.  I had started with a Stitched Rectangle die around the rhino, but I liked just a plain Night of Navy mat better.

Time to go do dishes, wheee.  I know how to have a good time.  Happy Friday, peeps!
