Oh, Fuji

Hey y'all, how was your Christmas?  The hubs and Ryan spent most of the day yesterday working to build a 3D printer, so I watched the first Santa Clause and worked on my current stitching project.  Then we had turkey for dinner and we were all so stuffed that I don't think anyone ate dessert : )  Hope your Christmas was just as enjoyable!

Anywha, I'm bringing back another old stamp set for today's card.  The challenge at CAS on Friday is to make a New Years card, and I happen to have a stamp set called New Year Celebrations.

This stamp set was available in the Japanese catalog (back when SU! tried to enter the Japanese market) and was available for a very short time here in the US.  It's obscure enough that it doesn't even have a gallery on Splitcoast and I couldn't find very many cards online made with it, so here's mine!  I stamped Mount Fuji and the surrounding sky on a scrap of Whisper White without a plan as to what I wanted to do with it and then this card eventually materialized.  I found a scrap of Poppy Parade DSP that was a pretty good match for the flower I stamped and fussy-cut, so there it is!  Happy New Year from Mount Fuji.

I have actually been on Mount Fuji though we didn't make it to the top--the hubs got altitude sickness and I didn't want to climb a mountain in the first place : p  I should send this card to Missy since she organized that trip.  Anyway, I'm going to take Daph for a walk and then maybe make some cookies.  Cheers!

Mount Fuji New Year

Hey y'all!  I didn't mean to disappear this week, it just happened that way.  After I finished putting together Ryan's baby book on Sunday, I immediately started work on one for my future nephew.  I need to get through it pretty quickly (he's expected early to mid February) so I may be a little sparse with posting here for a bit.

In the meantime, how about a card with a limited edition stamp set?

The set is called New Year Celebrations and it's in the Japanese catalog, available here just until the end of the year.  Since I avidly collect Oriental stamp sets I had to get it :)  I'm a little surprised I haven't seen anyone else use it.  Or if I do, I don't remember...I've been pretty tired lately so it's possible.

My card was inspired by this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I turned the sketch on its side, and added the Poppy Parade banner under my circular sentiment (it says Happy New Year in kanji) to mimic having a sentiment that would be vertical on my card.

I also used this week's Color Throwdown colors:

I used Bermuda Bay, Poppy Parade, and Smoky Slate.  Tempting Turquoise would have been a better match for the blue color, but I was just using current stuff so there you go.

Well, I've got three layouts done for nephew's baby book, and 14 more to go!  I'd better get crackin'.  Cheers, y'all!
