Hyacinth Hippo

Well, I got my SU! order late Monday afternoon and I've already busted out a couple of the new stamp sets (though one card you won't see 'till later as it's for a design team).  Today it's time for Hippest Hippos from the new Sale-a-Bration catalog.

Meet Hyacinth.  She's named after the dancing hippo on Disney's Fantasia : )  Can't see it in the picture, but I put Wink of Stella on her tutu because a tutu should be sparkly, don't you agree?

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

That made for a pretty quick card!  I used Bermuda Bay and Gorgeous Grape for the colors; the Highland Heather Stampin' Blends were close enough to Gorgeous Grape.  I grabbed some scraps of retired DSP for the layers and had this card done in under 15 minutes easy.

And now it's time for me to go back upstairs and see if I can finish off the scrapbook pages I was working on yesterday.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Hippest Hippos
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Gorgeous Grape
Paper:  Gorgeous Grape, Thick Basic White, Bermuda Bay & Gorgeous Grape DSP
Accessories:  Hippo dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Wink of Stella, Dimensionals

Starry Birthday

Mornin' y'all!  I have another red, white, and blue birthday card to share today, this one for my dad:

I busted out the retired set So Many Stars and the Stitched Stars dies for this one, and all I can say is there is a REASON I never used the stamp set with the dies before.  It *looks* like the stamp should line up with the die, but it's pretty much impossible to stamp the stars and then cut out with the die and have them be lined up correctly.  What I ended up doing was to stamp the stars on white, cut it out with the oval die, and then glue on the Starry Sky die cut on top, kind of squishing it around to make it line up right and hoping that I wasn't getting stray glue everywhere.  Pretty sure that's why the stamp set was current for just a short time but the dies stuck around for much longer; they were a pain to use together.

Anyway, I used the sketch from Sunday Stamps:

And the theme challenge from Cupcake Inspirations:

Since both of my parents have July birthdays, they both like stars and stripes stuff, so I kept the red-white-blue from the inspiration pic, using Starry Sky and Sweet Sorbet, with a Tahitian Tide card base.  I know I'm not the only one who's having so much fun with the new In Colors!

That's it for me today.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU! (some retired)
Stamps:  So Many Stars, Peaceful Moments
Ink:  Tahitian Tide, Versamark
Paper:  Tahitian Tide, Starry Sky, Thick Basic White, Sweet Sorbet DSP
Accessories:  Stitched Stars dies, Stitched Shapes dies, Dimensionals

Retro Red Rose

July means I need lots of birthday cards for my friends and family, so I gotta get crackin' this week!  First up is my mom's birthday on July 2, so here's her card:

She loves all things red, white, and blue, and the current Fusion challenge was perfect for her birthday card:

I love it when I see a challenge and immediately think "I have the perfect stamps for that!"  The inspo pic made me think of Stippled Blossoms right away, which was released before Stampin' Up! had dies for so many of their sets, so I fussy-cut the flower and leaves.  I rather enjoy a bit of fussy-cutting every now and again.  I used Sweet Sorbet and Cherry Cobbler for the flower, and busted out some retired shades for the leaves, namely Baja Breeze (still my favorite) and Not Quite Navy.  The sentiment is stamped in Midnight Muse for the darkest shade on the color palette.

My SU! order *finally* arrived yesterday so I need to go unpack it all and get to work on some scrapbook pages.  Woohoo!  Fun day ahead for me, hope your Tuesday is fun too!

Supplies, all SU! (many retired)
Stamps:  Stippled Blossoms, Perfectly Penned
Ink:  Sweet Sorbet, Cherry Cobbler, Baja Breeze, Not Quite Navy, Midnight Muse
Paper:  Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Thick Basic White, Walk in the Park DSP
Accessories:  Circles Collection Framelits, Dimensionals, In Color Matte Dots

Cornwall

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I am still very impatiently awaiting the arrival of my latest SU! order so I can continue scrapping the series I'm working on right now.  I came up to a set of pictures and realized that I neeeeeeeeed Starry Sky for the page base and this box is taking its sweet time to get to me.

In the meantime, here's a layout I finished fairly recently.  I often try to post scrapbook pages that are more or less seasonal, but it looks like I've got a ton of draft posts for fall/Christmas pages and almost nothing for summertime.  Well, these pics were taken in April in England, and that's what I've got for today!

Pretty sure I never got these pictures up on my other blog when we took the trip in 2012.  Our British neighbors, Mark and Ness, would do trips about twice a year with a group of friends.  They had already booked this massive house in Cornwall when half their group had to back out, so they invited Lee and me to go with them.  We could only stay for 3 days but we made the most of it, driving to St. Micheal's Mount (obviously not the French one), eating lunch in Penzance (sadly there were no pirates), going to Land's End (westernmost point in England), and visiting an awesome open-air theater on the coast.  I love Cornwall, it's gorgeous.  And that blue color on the water?  I didn't edit the photos, that's what it looked like in real life!

Today's color palette:  Dapper Denim, Raspberry Ripple, Tip Top Taupe, Garden Green, and Whisper White.  I was feelin' the past In Colors on this layout.  Man, I wish I could get unlimited supplies in every color SU! has ever had when I want them...every once in a while I just *need* one of the super old random colors, even the super bright Yoyo Yellow or Only Orange.  Ah, well.  Occasionally I find cardstock or ink refills on eBay, I guess that will have to do.  Thank goodness I got a Concord Crush ink refill recently, I needed that for my most recent layout!

Cheers, y'all.  I'm going to do some work planning for some upcoming trips...and then I'll have MORE pictures to scrap!  Never-ending cycle : )

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Spencerian Alphabet Upper & Lower
Ink:  Garden Green, Dapper Denim marker
Paper:  Dapper Denim, Raspberry Ripple, Tip Top Taupe, Thick Basic White, Raspberry Ripple DSP, Artistry Blooms DSP
Accessories:  None

Sketchy Series for the Paper Players

Hey stampy friends!  Ready for a wonderful new sketch from the Paper Players?  I hope so, because it's coming at you right now!

Isn't that a great sketch?  Here's what I made:

Yep, still obsessed with Artfully Layered, the coordinating dies and papers.  Better hurry up and grab 'em before they retire on July 1!  I thought this sketch was a great way to showcase a couple of  patterned papers together, and after I made this card I just couldn't resist trying out the sketch with some other papers.  I, uh, made several more cards with the sketch :)

Here's the Butterfly Kisses DSP stack in action, sentiment courtesy of Simply Fabulous (don't you love that font?!).  My biggest problem was narrowing down which butterfly to cut out and what papers to use for the layers of the sketch.

Next up, I used the He's the Man specialty paper to make this one, no stamps required.  The hubs and I have talked about getting an RV or something and spending a year or two traveling around the US after he retires.  Don't know if we'll do that if gas prices continue to be so astronomical, though.

You know I wouldn't leave out Cup of Tea and the coordinating Tea Boutique DSP stack!

Finally, I was able to squeak out just one more quick card with the Design a Daydream DSP that's a host option.  I don't like this card quite as well as the other ones, but by the time I got to this one I was in a rush and didn't have time to add a stamped image or some embellishments.  I do like the giant floral pattern though.

If y'all like this sketch even half as much as I did, then the Paper Players gallery is going to be full of beautiful cards this week!  Have fun and get inky!

Friendly Cherries

Surprise Saturday post!  Had to play along with a couple of challenges and since I have cherries on the brain this week...

Our neighbors joined us one evening this week and we picked a bunch of cherries off the tree in our yard, and then I spent HOURS pitting, chopping, and freezing them, about 16 cups worth when it was all said and done.  Today I'll be making a cherry pie and tomorrow I'm going to experiment with cherry muffins.  Anyway, knowing that we have that cherry tree in our yard, of course I had to buy Sweetest Cherries when the new catalog was released.  So for today's card, I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches:

I rotated the sketch to the left 90 degrees, because I just don't like sentiments going vertically like that.  Personal preference.

The Color Throwdown inspiration photo had different berries:

I used Real Red, Polished Pink, Daffodil Delight, and Granny Apple Green for my cherry card.  Where's the red, you may ask?  Well, I inked up the cherry stamp with Polished Pink, and then used a sponge dauber to add some red ink for some color variation.  I promise I used all the colors : )

I'm off, peeps.  I've got to go to work for a few hours today so the hubs is entertaining Ryan.  Wish them luck!

Bodacious Friend

Happy Friday, friends!  I'm happy to report that I had a more productive day in my craft room yesterday than on Wednesday.  Part of my problem is that I *really* want to work on some specific scrapbook layouts, but I'm waiting for my latest Stampin' Up! order to get here with the new In Color 12x12 cardstock.  I convinced myself to work on something else yesterday and I got a couple of cards made too.  So here's the first card:

Bodacious Bouquet is one of my all-time favorite flower stamp sets and I've had it since 2007.  Fifteen years!  And I still enjoy playing with it from time to time.  I knew it was the perfect stamp set for the CAS Colours & Sketches color challenge:

I did use Starry Sky for the sentiment, because it's like a slightly lighter version of navy blue--the ink is, anyway, the paper is a bit lighter.  I love these new In Colors :)

I'll also enter this at the latest Just Add Ink challenge:

Yup, I can do flowers!

Anyway, I have to pick Ryan up early today so he can get his second Covid shot, so I'd better get on up to the craft room and work while I have the chance.  Toodles!

Friday Flashback: Apple Blossoms

Friday Flashback on a Thursday!  It's been a while since I posted a Friday Flashback (whatever day of the week it happens to be posted), and yesterday I just could NOT settle in and make anything in my craft room, so now is a good time.  Today's set is Apple Blossoms, which was a hostess set in the 2010-2011 catalog.  I hadn't made a whole lot with this stamp set so this was a fun exercise for me.

I made these cards before Just Jade retired and I had fun playing with color combinations using it.  So here's Just Jade and Coastal Cabana.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Apple Blossoms
Ink:  Just Jade, Coastal Cabana
Paper:  Just Jade, Coastal Cabana, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Rectangles Stitched dies, Tasteful Labels dies, Dimensionals

Same basic layout for this card, and I kept the Just Jade card base and stamped the flower with Polished Pink and Daffodil Delight.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Apple Blossoms
Ink:  Just Jade, Polished Pink, Daffodil Delight, Night of Navy
Paper:  Just Jade, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Rectangles Stitched dies, mini Dimensionals, rhinestone

Thought I'd try something different with that tall, skinny stamp.  No Just Jade this time though :)

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Apple Blossoms
Ink:  Fresh Freesia, Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral, Night of Navy
Paper:  Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Rose Garden dies, Dimensionals

Last card, this one using the apple stamp.  Apples always make me think of back to school stuff and teachers, and maybe I'm weird but I don't like the 4U thing on here.  I imagine teachers would dislike that kind of text shorthand and I think it's kinda annoying too ;) But I wanted to use the stamp anyway and I just made a mini square card.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Apple Blossoms
Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Poppy Parade
Paper:  Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Mini Dimensionals, Daffodil Delight ribbon

That's it for me today, I'm heading upstairs and hoping that I can be more productive in my craft room today.  Cheers!

Circling Back Around

Mornin' y'all!  How's your day going?  I was very productive yesterday:  I made a list of things to do, and I got all of them done.  Woohoo!  After dinner last night, we went outside with our neighbors and picked cherries off the tree in our yard, so today's task will be to pit, chop, and freeze a giant bowl full of cherries.

But first, today's card.

How's that for a blast from the past?  I got Simply Circles in the first year or two after I started stamping, and I've had it for SIXTEEN years!  I knew it was the perfect stamp set for the Retro Rubber challenge:

Simply Circles is a set of six stamps, and I used all six of them on my card.  I also used the CASE the Designer challenge from Global Design Project:

I kept the basic layout and the gray/aqua/pink color combination, though my aqua is the more saturated Tahitian Tide; I thought the stronger colors worked with my funky retro circles.

Have a great day, peeps!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Simply Circles (retired)
Ink:  Smoky Slate, Tahitian Tide, Polished Pink, Versamark
Paper:  Smoky Slate, Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Stitched Rectangles dies, Stylish Shapes dies, white EP, Dimensionals, In Color Matte Dots

SUO Challenges Goes Tropical

Howdy friends!  It's time for a new challenge from SUO Challenges!

Our theme is tropical!  And of course you know what stamp set I used for it...

Ahh, I love Artfully Layered and it's about to retire.  Get it while you can!  This time I didn't use the coordinating Artfully Composed DSP; I had some fun making leaves in Coastal Cabana, Pacific Point, Polished Pink, and gold.  Hey, two of my color names are tropical!  My Polished Pink DSP retired with the last catalog, because I don't have the new DSP in all the color families, but you could easily sub in a different pattern.  I have had fun several times coming up with color combinations for this stamp set.

Grab a fruity drink and a little paper umbrella and have some fun with ink and paper, then post your card over at the SUO Challenges blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Artfully Layered
Ink:  Pacific Point, Coastal Cabana, Polished Pink
Paper:  Pacific Point, Coastal Cabana, Thick Basic White, gold foil, Polished Pink DSP
Accessories:  Tropical Layers dies, Stylish Shapes dies, Dimensionals, rhinestones from a prior Paper Pumpkin kit

June 2019

Scrappy Monday!  I have a super sunny layout to share today.

I lovelovelove that picture of Ryan in his dad's hat : )  That smile!!!  I busted out some super-old DSP for this one, it was called Good Morning Sunshine and features the long-retired Summer Sun.  After I finished the layout I wished I had done the heart on the right page embossed in white on Pacific Point cardstock, but by that point it was glued down and no way was it coming off.  Oh well.

Happy Father's Day to my hubs, who is an awesome dad to our spawn, as you can see in these pictures.  I love both my guys : )

Today's summer color palette:  Summer Sun, Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point, Chocolate Chip, and Whisper White.  I took the colors directly from the Good Morning Sunshine DSP, but what kicked off the color choice of Summer Sun was Ryan's Harry potter shirt.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  My Paper Pumpkin, Polka Dot Punches
Ink:  Pacific Point, Versamark, Chocolate Chip marker
Paper:  Summer Sun, Pacific Point, Chocolate Chip, Thick Basic White, Good Morning Sunshine DSP

One-Layer Whimsy for The Paper Players

Happy Sunday, stampy friends!  We're currently in the Netherlands checking out windmills and hopefully having a good time : ) but that won't stop me playing along with the Paper Players!

I suppose I could have made a windmill card for today but I wasn't thinking that far in advance.  So how 'bout a huggable horse?

For some reason, Peekaboo Farm just jumped out at me when I was perusing my stamp sets for this challenge.  I used the largest Stitched with Whimsy die to add a bit of interest (without adding layers) to the edges of the card, and then just stamped the scene directly on the card front, using the masking technique to put a cloud behind the horse's head.  A bit of coloring with Stampin' Blends and done!

Hope you'll give the one-layer challenge a try and upload your card over at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Peekaboo Farm
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Balmy Blue, Cajun Craze, Stampin' Blends in Basic Black, Cajun Craze, Ivory, Gray Granite, Smoky Slate

Fishy Thoughts

Happy Friday y'all!  We're going to be hitting the road this morning for a road trip to the Netherlands, but before that, I have a card to share.  Take a peek:

I busted out some retired stamps for this one, what do you think?  I had fish on the brain thanks to the inspiration picture from the Color Throwdown:

I used Tangerine Tango, Blushing Bride, and Coastal Cabana as my colors, though maybe I should have done Tahitian Tide but I didn't think of it when I was up in my craft room.  For the background layer, I smooshed (it's a technical term) my ink pad on my largest acrylic block, spritzed it with water, and then smooshed that on a piece of white cardstock.  That gave me a subtle color variation and looked nice and watery once I dried it out with a heat tool.

Check out the latest sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches:

That Stitched Nested Labels die was the closest shape I had to a hexagon, and the longer shape worked with the sentiment I chose to go with it.

That's it for me, peeps.  See you on Sunday for a new Paper Players challenge!

Supplies, all SU! (some retired)
Stamps:  Ocean Commotion, Perfect Pennants
Ink:  Coastal Cabana, Starry Sky, Tangerine Tango, Blushing Bride
Paper:  Thick Basic White
Accessories:  Stitched Nested Labels, Dimensionals, Polished Dots

Black Bear

Hey y'all, how is it Thursday already?  I feel like this week has flown by.  How about a masculine card for today?

I suppose it doesn't *have* to be a masculine card, but it can be.  I paired the Wildlife Wonder stamp set with the He's the Man DSP.  They were the perfect match for the Card Concept challenge:

As ever, my card is clean and layered.  And I used the Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch from last week:

It's a little different with the oval going off the edge of the card, but that worked for me since I don't have an oval die big enough to contain the entire bear image.

Okay, I'm off to work in my craft room.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Wildlife Wonder
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Early Espresso, Sahara Sand
Paper:  Early Espresso, Sahara Sand, He's the Man Specialty DSP
Accessories:  Layering Ovals dies, Ornate Frames dies, Dimensionals, Brushed Metallic Dots

Pink & Purple Hugs

So here I sit wondering why my blog post hadn't shown up today...and then I remembered that I hadn't actually written it yet, I only took a picture of my card before I mailed it off yesterday.  Ha!  This morning I went through three rooms at Ryan's daycare looking for his backpack with a change of clothes in it, only to find the backpack in the back seat of my car.  Yeah today is not the day for me to be doing anything intellectually challenging.  But I do have a card to share!

I continue my personal goal to stamp these leaves in All The Colors.  Wish I'd gotten a better picture of it, but I had this card in an envelope and on the way to the post office 10 minutes after taking this picture yesterday afternoon.  Using Artfully Layered was a no-brainer when I saw this week's Global Design Project theme:

Which I paired with the colors from Cupcake Inspirations:

Pink and purple leaves?  Why not!  After all, Hawaiian shirts come in pretty much every color ever, and they frequently have leaves and/or flowers on them.  I used Polished Pink, Highland Heather, and Gorgeous Grape for my colors.

I'm off to my craft room.  Cheers, peeps!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Artfully Layered
Ink:  Polished Pink, Versamark
Paper:  Highland Heather, Polished Pink, Gorgeous Grape, Thick Basic White, Polished Pink DSP

Rockin' 70s

Hey y'all, how's it going?  I really need to learn *not* to try reading right before bedtime...I always stay up too late!  But I got my trusty mug o' tea this morning and a card to share.

Let's start with the Retro Rubber Challenge:

I used Delightful Dijon (harvest gold), Always Artichoke (avocado green), Really Rust (burnt orange), and Chocolate Chip (brown), so even my colors are retro!  As for the stamps, For the Record isn't retro yet, but Music from the Heart is at least 2 years old, Epic Celebrations is 4 years old, and Gorgeous Grunge is 8 years old.  Man, for a while there I used Gorgeous Grunge on *everything*, so it was fun to bust it out again for this!  Also, as for the 70s theme, I think I've already mentioned that I recently bought my first pair of bell bottom pants and I'm working on putting together an epic 70s playlist (it's an ongoing process as I find more music!).  So no way was I letting this challenge pass me by.

But I played in two other challenges as well!  I used the sketch from Fusion:

And the inspo list from Festive Friday:

As someone who is allergic to the sound of silence, I really appreciated the music theme this time around.  I used music notes, white, an instrument (guitar), embossing, and a circle.  Half the list ain't too bad.

Have a great day!

Supplies, all SU! (many retired)
Stamps:  For the Record, Music from the Heart, Epic Celebrations, Gorgeous Grunge
Ink:  Versamark, Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, Always Artichoke
Paper:  Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, Thick Basic White, Always Artichoke DSP
Accessories:  Layering Circles dies, Stylish Shapes dies, clear EP, Dimensionals

And here's my awesome butterfly bell bottoms!

I need to have them hemmed; the hems are unfinished and even wearing tall espadrilles, these pants drag on the floor.  But I loves them!  And I *have* worn them out in public!

Oklahoma, Part 5: Cousins

Scrappy Monday!  And hey hey, we're up to the last layout from the 2019 Oklahoma trip : )

Before we left the cabin, my mom wanted to get a picture of Ryan and his cousins together.  Uh, have you ever tried to get four kids to all behave and look at the camera and smile at the same time?  I think we took like 50 pictures and this is what we got!  I also think it's funny that Ryan is the only one with dark hair.  *singing* One of these things is not like the other ones!  And when we took these pictures, my SIL was pregnant...and yep, *that* cousin is also blond!

Today's color palette:  Cinnamon Cider, Mossy Meadow, Cranberry Crisp, Crushed Curry, and Whisper White.  I reached way way back for that Cranberry Crisp paper, it was from the first year or two of In Colors.  And I wish I'd bought more than just one pack of that Into the Woods DSP because I've used it a LOT on my scrapbooks and I'm about to go into hoarding mode.

Hope you have a good week, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pure & Simple Alphabet, Love of Leaves
Ink:  Cranberry Crisp, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso marker
Paper:  Cinnamon Cider, Cranberry Crisp, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow, Thick Basic White, Into the Woods DSP, Perfectly Artistic DSP
