Snow Much Fun!

Mornin' y'all and finally the first Scrappy Monday of 2024.  Right now we're smack in the middle of a cold snap and we got just a little bit of snow last night, so Ryan has been out playing in it this morning.  So I picked a snowy layout to share today, this one from four years ago.

That was our house in NC and there was enough snow for a little snowman on the picnic table.  That deck area was nice (though it deteriorated quickly because the landlord didn't seal it properly, not from anything we did to it) and I kinda miss it, I know Ryan misses the duck pond out back.  He wants a duck pond at our next house and refuses to believe that won't be tops on the list of requirements as we look at houses.  Anyway, back to 2020, we didn't have real snow gear for Ryan so to keep his feet dry we tied some plastic bags around is feet and legs.  Silly looking, but it worked!  And then he wanted to eat the snow, so we brought in a chunk of it and he had a snack.  Now he does have actual snow boots and instead of eating the snow, he's drinking some apple cider.

Today's wintry color combination:  Balmy Blue, Pacific Point, and Whisper White.

Time for me to go get in my cocoon of blankets on the love seat and watch some shows with Ryan.  I'm already several cups of tea into the day so far : )

Paper Players: Walking In A Yeti Wonderland

I have to admit, I had to think about Jaydee's color combination for a while before I came up with an idea.  I think the black was throwing me off, but eventually my brain started working and I made this:

Gotta love this yeti!  I stamped him with Memento Tuxedo Black and then used the Pacific Point watercolor pencil to add some shading.  The snowflake print from the Storybook Gnomes DSP was the perfect background for my yeti, don't you think?

SUO Challenges: Color My World

Good morning, y'all!  It's time for a new challenge at Stampin' Up! Only Challenges!

This time it's a technique challenge and I think you're gonna like it:  coloring!  You've got some options here, you could do Stampin' Blends, the regular markers, watercolor pencils...hey, I think watercoloring would count too ; )  I decided to take a break from Halloween cards (whaaaaat) and instead went for All Bundled Up from the holiday catalog.  Take a look:

I chose that pink snowflake pattern from the Celebrate Everything DSP Stack, which gave me Polished Pink as a starting point.  I chose Tahitian Tide and Granny Apple Green for complementary colors and then neutrals for these two woodland pals.  Normally I seriously dislike brown and gray together, but I think it works for these two.  (And I still think that moose looks like my brother!)

I've been practicing a lot with my Blends of late.  When I first got alcohol markers, I tried laying down the lightest color first and then using the darker Blend for shading, but I always ended up with harsh lines around the shadows.  Now I do it in reverse:  I put in the darker areas and then lay down the base layer of the lighter shade, which lets me blend the colors together better.  I think I saw a video somewhere where they did the dark color first, but I don't remember when or where I saw it.

Get Yeti, Get Set...

Hey y'all, happy Friday!  Big day here, this afternoon we're going to Ryan's new school to meet his teacher.  He's starting KINDERGARTEN at the end of the month!  I don't think he's quite as excited as I am ; )

Know what else I'm excited about?  New stamps and new dies to go with!

I got Yeti to Party a while back but then I delayed actually inking it up until I could get the new Yeti dies (available starting September 1 if you're not a demonstrator).  And I just had to play with my new Deckled Rectangle dies too!

I used Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party, and white for my colors.  Wish I could have gotten a better picture but nope, it's either direct sunlight (so harsh shadows) or the best I can do for indirect light in this house.  This card should have been super quick to put together too but I had to do the stamping and die cutting twice on everything I've done this morning!  Ugh.  But I got there in the end.
