Scrappy Monday, y'all! How about we start our week with a Danish castle!
I shared my Copenhagen layout a while back, so here's the other layout from Denmark. Hubs and I took a train from Copenhagen to Elsinore (Helsingor) to visit Kronborg Castle, which is identified with the castle in Hamlet (though curiously the castle in the play is named after the town near Kronborg Castle, and not the castle itself).
I used Island Indigo for the page base, and that is one of the retiring core colors that I will really miss. I used it for scrapbook pages more than cards, maybe partially because I do so many color challenges for cards but I always choose my own colors for scrapbook pages. I love that floral pattern from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP pack...doesn't necessarily go with the castle theme, so let's pretend those are the flowers that Ophelia was playing with in Hamlet :)
Here is today's color palette: Island Indigo, Tangerine Tango (also retiring), Cajun Craze, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla.
Hope your week is off to a great start. Cheers, y'all!

China Title Pages
Happy Sunday, y'all! I'm so excited that I got my China books done, I think I might start a Sunday series of the China scrapbook pages. Then I'll still have Mondays to share non-China scrapbook layouts too, which is good because I currently have 50+ draft posts of scrappy goodness!
So here are the title pages for China. I used the same lettering template (in several sizes) and the same alphabet stamps on every layout in the books because I think that makes things feel like they all go together without having to use the same colors or something like that. I have two packs of DSP that are the same Asian-inspired patterns but in different colors (reds for Ginger Blossom, greens and blues for Green Tea) so those seemed like just the thing for the title pages. The only thing that took a while on these was cutting out the letters, but even that is kinda fun and relaxing to me.
Well, I have apple cranberry muffins that are about to come out of the oven, so cheers y'all!
Supplies:
Stamps: Rough Type, My Paper Pumpkin (for the apostrophe on Xi'an)
Ink: Early Espresso
Paper: Ruby Red, Early Espresso, Island Indigo, Whisper White, Green Tea & Ginger Blossom DSP
Accessories: lettering templates

Dragonfly Smile
Hey y'all! How's your morning? The hubs is off work today so at the moment he's chasing the boy around instead of me :D But we've got a busy day ahead so let's get to it.
Dragonfly Dreams is NOT retiring, I'm happy to say. I like this set and its matching Framelits. I don't think they show up too well on the photo, but I put some glitter epoxy dots on this...they look pretty cool IRL, promise. I also used Wink of Stella on the dragonfly's wings so this card has a nice sparkle to it.
Check out this week's Freshly Made Sketch:
Also, my Painted Harvest card was chosen as one of the winners for last week's sketch! Squee!
Next up is the color palette from Sunday Stamps:
AND they picked my swan card as a winner for the previous challenge! Double squee! Anyway, I loved this color palette because green is my favorite color and blue is my husband's favorite color and so this palette is just US. I used Very Vanilla, Sahara Sand, Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, and Night of Navy as my colors.
Okay, I'd better get moving...sounds like kiddo is about to be done with his bath :) Cheers, y'all!

Stamps: Dragonfly Dreams
Ink: Sahara Sand, Night of Navy, Wild Wasabi, Garden Green
Paper: Sahara Sand, Thick Very Vanilla, Naturally Eclectic DSP scraps

Lots of Happy Card Kit, Part 2
Hey, y'all. Wow, it's almost afternoon where I am already...this morning was a little out of whack because I had to go get blood drawn and then the lab's computer system went down so Ryan and I spent about 20 minutes pacing back and forth in the hall outside the lab waiting for things to come back up and then I finally got blood drawn and then we were at Ryan's naptime so here I am driving home and hollering at him to stay awake until we get in the house because if he falls asleep in the car even if it's just for 2.31 seconds then he won't sleep when we get home and he's not one of those kids you can move from car to crib without waking him up. And I couldn't eat anything until after the blood draw. But anyway, that's done, Ryan is asleep, and I need to go clean up the house a bit.
But first, two more cards from the Lots of Happy card kit.
These two are both ones that I used pieces from smaller sized cards to make regular A2 cards. I probably could/shout have used Sahara Sand as the card base for all of them so they'd be more matchy-matchy, but what can I say, I like variety. Oh, since the Rich Razzleberry watercolor pencil was turning out more pink than purple, for this bunch of lavender I used ink instead. Yay purple!
The original card kit shows that parallelogram (I assume it's a parallelogram?) on top of the piece with the roses where it covers up like 90% of them. Hey, if I'm going to take the time to color in the roses and stems and stuff, then by golly I'm not going to cover it up! So I flipped the rose part 90 degrees and now you can see 90% of it instead of 10%. Which makes me happy.
Okay, off to clean up a few things and then maybe I'll have time to get in my craft room before Ryan wakes back up. Cheers!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Lots of Happy
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper: what came in the kit + Basic Black & Lemon Lime Twist

Sending Sunshine Via Hot Air Balloon
Mornin', y'all! Last week I shared an umbrella card on a sunny day...well, today I've got a sunshine card and it's pouring down rain! Apparently I'm meteorologically challenged.
But LOOK--the Wink of Stella on the die cut word actually shows up! It's a miracle!
So this week's theme challenge from Global Design Project is all things sunshine:
So of course the first thing I thought of was the Sunshine Sayings stamp set and its matching Thinlits. And then I thought of the hot air balloon. And I decided to showcase two of the retiring colors: Tempting Turquoise and Tangerine Tango. Add in a healthy dose of Daffodil Delight and this is a super sunny card!
I also used this week's sketch from the Paper Players:
That's a classic sketch, love it.
Hope you have a great day!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Sunshine Sayings
Ink; Chocolate Chip, Tempting Turquoise
Paper: Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise, Tangerine Tango, Thick Whisper White, watercolor paper

Orchid Festival 2010, Part 3
Scrappy Monday, y'all! I didn't get as much scrapping done over the weekend as I could have wished, but I DID FINISH THE CHINA BOOKS!!!!!!!!!! I'm a little excited about that ;) Not only are all the pages done, the albums are all put together and all the pages are in their sheet protectors and they are 100% DONE. Very excited.
But for today's post, we're in Japan, not China. And we're finishing up coverage of the orchid festival.
This is the third layout, so no journaling--it's really just an excuse to squeeze in more pretty flower pictures. It was kind of like a puzzle figuring out how to fit everything together, hot to arrange the different colors and how many freckly flowers should go together or should they be interspersed with non-freckly ones. Here's the sketch I used:
Pretty fun, right? Again, I left off a title and journaling on my pages, but sketches are there to be a jumping-off point so I don't have to slavishly follow the sketch. I make 'em work for me.
Same color palette as before: Pink Pirouette, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Barely Banana, and Wild Wasabi. I used the same floral pattern as from the second layout, and instead of the stamped Barely Banana butterflies I used another pattern of Wild Wasabi stripes. The lighter color stripes still looked kinda banana-y so I think they pages all still go together.
Y'all have a great Monday. I'm off to chase the boy child. Cheers!

Fall Friday
Happy Friday, y'all! I think I took a wrong turn in my craft room yesterday and ended up in October instead of April. Or at least, my card did...
I know quite a few people with fall birthdays, so that's okay, just not really what I was expecting when I started to make it! Painted Harvest is coming back in the new catalog (yay!) and the greeting is from Butterfly Basics, which is retiring.
Meet this week's Freshly Made Sketch:
I made a one-layer card, but I think you can see the three elements on there pretty easily. I also used this week's Color Throwdown:
I used Rose Red and Always Artichoke for the red and green, which is probably where the card veered off into fall territory, but I wanted to use some retiring colors (Chocolate Chip is retiring too). I think the new colors Lovely Lipstick and Granny Apple Green would be good matches for this challenge, but alas, I don't have them yet. I always love getting new colors to play with!
Kiddo and I are off to the store to see if we can get some eggs that aren't part of the salmonella recall. Cheers, y'all! And have a great weekend!
P.S. I just discovered that Ryan (14 months old) likes English Breakfast tea. Did I have a British child somehow? ;)

Retiring: Weather Together
Mornin', y'all! How's the weather where you are? It's been overcast and rainy a lot this week, but today it's all bright and sunny and of course that's the day I pick to share an umbrella card.
Weather Together and the coordinating Umbrella Weather Framelits are both retiring. I wanted to love this set, I really did, but I think I liked the old Rain or Shine one better (even though it didn't have matching dies). But I do love being able to cut these out with just a quick pass through the Big Shot :). Anyway, I was inspired to dust off this set thanks to the Retro Rubber inspiration challenge:
I've had Weather Together for probably two years, because I think I had it for a while before I used it in January of 2017.
I also used this week's sketch from Global Design Project:

Awesome Unicorn
Mornin', y'all! I'm trying to type this with Ryan in my lap. He was all grunty and unhappy at me until I pulled him in my lap and now he's got my phone. That little toot already knows how to swipe his fingers on the screen to make the images move. Still working on teaching him not to put the phone in his mouth though.
Yeah I'm still not done playing with Magical Day. I used Peekaboo Peach the first time I used the unicorn stamp and now her name is Macaroni, poor thing. But I think I was more successful with the peach this time. Which brings us to the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge:
I used Peekaboo Peach, Lemon Lime Twist, and Sahara Sand for the colors. The white is Shimmery White because how could it not be with a unicorn?
Here's the sketch from Fab Friday that I used:
And the Paper Players theme challenge:
I admit the sketch isn't necessarily CAS, but I did try to limit the number of layers and keep it clean lines at least. Like, instead of matting the main image panel, I swiped the edges on my black ink pad so it gives definition without adding another layer. I was looking for a sentiment to go with the unicorn (I wanted something different than what's in Magical Day), and that's how I ended up with the greeting from Epic Celebrations, one of this year's Sale-a-Bration sets. It's already retired but the unicorn is going to be too pretty soon :p
The hubs is up now and feeding Ryan yet more Cheerios so I can actually type! Man, that kid can EAT. He's going to be begging for my breakfast too in a minute.
Cheers, y'all!

Lots of Happy Card Kit, Part 1
Howdy, folks! Ryan only took one nap yesterday and I don't like that schedule. He wasn't unusually cranky or anything from missing his afternoon nap, I just like that time to do stuff without toddler "help", ya know? I can't even load the dishwasher without him climbing all over it.
But anyway. Over the weekend I put together the Lots of Happy card kit and then gave it to someone as a gift. I made 20 cards total, 4 each of 5 designs, plus a card for the recipient; today I'm sharing the first two cards that were made pretty much like the sample pictures.
At first I wasn't really planning to use the vellum leaves because...I don't know, I guess I just don't "get" them? But I did use them and I think the cards turned out pretty cute. The kit comes with four watercolor pencils, but the Rich Razzleberry one turns out looking like a slightly purplish pink rather than actually being purple. Oh well.
Those were the two A2 size card designs that came with the kit; it came with three smaller ones but those you couldn't send through the mail so I took the pieces and made them into regular size cards (which I'll share later). This kit has some very pretty pieces but it was rather labor-intensive with all the coloring. Still, the recipient liked it and that's what matters!
Cheers, y'all!

Orchid Festival 2010, Part 2
Scrappy Monday, y'all! Looks like it's going to be a gray and rainy day here, but at least my scrapbook pages can be all pretty and pink!
It's time for more orchid photos! And shishi dogs! I kept the same color scheme from the first layout, but added some patterned paper. And once again I cropped a lot of the photos.
Here's the sketch I used, for comparison's sake. Looking through that Becky Higgins sketch book, I think she must have had a lot of her photos printed out much smaller than the standard 4x6 size, because I just CANNOT crop mi pictures down as small as the ones on her sample layout here! But I managed to get 11 photos on my layout anyway.
Same color combination as last time: Pink Pirouette, Sweet Sugarplum, Rich Razzleberry, Barely Banana and Wild Wasabi.
Ooh, my tea's ready. Cheers, y'all!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Butterfly of Happiness, Eastern Influences
Ink: Wild Wasabi, Barely Banana, Rich Razzleberry marker
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Rich Razzleberry, Barely Banana, Blooms & Bliss DSP

Retiring: Orange Blossom
Howdy, y'all! I don't usually post on the weekends, but there were a few challenges this week that I just couldn't let pass me by, so here we are!
I has a sad that Orange Blossom is retiring! Last year when the new catalog came out, my kiddo was just a few months old and I was still working out how to balance life with a baby, so I limited myself to just two new stamp sets (Orange Blossom and Post Script). That turned out to be a great decision--I was able to really focus on using those two sets and really have fun with them instead of being ADHD with a half a dozen stamp sets. (Sometimes when I order a lot of stamps at once, it takes me forever to get around to using them all...Sale-a-Bration is particularly troublesome for that. I didn't even use most of the SAB stuff from this year!) Anyway, I *adore* Orange Blossom and I'm sad to see it retiring so soon, but I've already chosen the two stamp sets I want to start off with from the next catalog.
Here is the Color Throwdown color combination that I love:
I used Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, and Coastal Cabana for my colors. Coastal Cabana is coming back y'all! So excited about that.
I'm also entering this at the SUO Challenge to use a favorite floral from the annual catalog:
And finally, a cool sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch:
That's it for me today, y'all. Hoping to get some crafting time in this weekend while the hubs is here to entertain the tiny human. Cheers, y'all!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Orange Blossom
Ink: Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Coastal Cabana, Basic Black, Versamark

Retiring: Awesomely Artistic & One Big Meaning
Happy Friday, y'all! As I promised yesterday, here's the card I was working on when I realized the color challenge I was trying to do called for Tranquil Tide, not Wild Wasabi.
I still like these colors together! And all three are retiring. Once again, I used Shimmery White paper for the background, then did a watercolor wash with Wild Wasabi and Wisteria Wonder. I dried it with my heat tool (impatient me) and then stamped the floral stamp from Awesomely Artistic on it. The dragonfly is stamped on Shimmery White as well, but just in case it didn't shimmer *enough* I added some Wink of Stella.
The current SUO Challenge is all about flowers:
I do love that big flower stamp. I'll miss Awesomely Artistic.
Next up is this week's Freshly Made Sketch:
Ryan just tried to sit on Vader's head. Well, better Vader than Sadie...though to be fair Sadie would have run away before Ryan got close enough to try to sit on her head. Vader is a patient dog!
That's it for me today, peeps. Cheers! And have a great weekend!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Awesomely Artistic, One Big Meaning
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Wild Wasabi, Wisteria Wonder
Paper: Elegant Eggplant, Wild Wasabi, Wisteria Wonder, Shimmery White
Accessories: Layering Circles Framelits, Dimensinoals, Wink of Stella

Retiring: Magical Day & Seaside Shore
Mornin', y'all! I was blessed with two good naptime crafting sessions yesterday (thank you Ryan) and it's a good thing because I had a slight dangit! moment. I was halfway done making a card for a color challenge when I realized that I'd used the wrong green for the challenge. I even had the colors written down right in front of me! #DUH Oh well, I ended up with two cards I like, so you'll see the wrong color card tomorrow. Here's the second card I made:
Most of the stamp sets on the retiring list I am content to say goodbye to, but not Magical Day. I love this set so much! I wish it was carrying over just because I tend not to use a lot of retired stuff except for on scrapbook pages and I want to play lots more with this set. Well, it will live forever in my collection.
The card base is Shimmery White, and I used very diluted Tranquil Tide to make a tranquil tide for my mermaid.
I've always got a cup of water with me, so I squished the ink pad into the lid to get a pool of ink, and then I poured a bit of water in the ink pad for an impromptu watercolor session. I also keep a roll of paper towels in my craft room, so when I was done I just blotted the ink out of the ink pad lid. No muss, no fuss!
Check out this week's sketch from Clean & Simple Stamping:
And the color challenge from the Paper Players:
You know I love me some Tranquil Tide, so I really don't know why I picked up Wild Wasabi instead on the first card I made (though for that card, Wild Wasabi worked better than Tranquil Tide would have...check back tomorrow to see it). Wisteria Wonder and Elegant Eggplant are now retiring. I'll be sad to see Elegant Eggplant go, but I do admit that the ink comes out so dark sometimes (especially with my ridiculously juicy ink pad) that it looks black. We're getting two new purples to replace these two, and I can't wait to dive in to the new colors.
That's it for me today, y'all. Cheers!

Orchid Festival 2010, Part 1
Happy Wednesday, y'all! Actually it's SCRAPPY Wednesday :) I have over 50 draft blog posts, almost all of them with scrapbook pages waiting to be shared, so I may post layouts more often than just once a week. I love card making but scrapbooking is really my jam, ya know?
When we lived in Okinawa (when it comes to islands, I never know if I should say we lived IN the island, or ON the island, thoughts?), they had festivals for pretty much everything. We went to the cherry blossom festival for two years, I went to the orchid festival twice, but we skipped the azalea festival and the lily festival (I'm okay with missing the lily festival though, I'm allergic to them). Somehow I never blogged the pictures from the second orchid festival, which I went to with Missy, but you can see the first year's pictures here, here, and here.
I pulled out the long-retired Notable Alphabet for my title, and the Barely Banana mat on the left has some subtle butterflies stamped on it courtesy of Butterfly of Happiness (also long retired). The butterflies are a little *too* subtle, but done is better than perfect I think...especially since I'm so far behind on my scrapbook pages. Anyway, I often go in streaks with certain colors where I want to use them on everything, and it's fine even on scrapbook pages because I don't work chronologically. YOU probably don't see it since I don't share my layouts in the order I made them, but I've recently been on a kick with Poppy Parade (which is coming back! Oh happy day!) and Barely Banana (more than once I've used them together). Anyway, I love color and I'm very excited about all the new colors that are coming with the SU! color refresh. In my perfect (very colorful) little world, Stampin' Up! colors would *never* retire, we'd just keep getting more :D
Enough about colors, let's talk about scrapbook sketches. I subscribed to Creating Keepsakes magazine for YEARS and I collected literally hundreds of sketches in my own sketch binder. This was back in the day when Becky Higgins was the It Girl for scrapbooking (and well before Project Life, which is not my thang). I still use BH sketches all the time and I have this book, which I peruse frequently.
I like that it's organized by number of photos, and there's a sample layout for each sketch. If you go back and look at my scrapbook pages, you'll see that most of the time I crop my photos as little as possible. Unless they're really old pictures before I kinda learned what I was doing when it comes to taking good pictures. Well, I had printed out I think 35 pictures from this festival, and by golly I wanted to use all of them, so I had to crop. Now I have three layouts done and I didn't even pass out when I cut up the pictures.
Here's the sketch that I used for this layout. Most of the time I don't use this many pictures on a single layout (12 here), so this was fun for me and I thought you'd like to see how I got from a big stack of photos to finished pages. I'll share the other two layouts sometime soon.
And now we're back to colors for a minute with today's color palette: Pink Pirouette (retiring), Sweet Sugarplum (retiring), Rich Razzleberry, Barely Banana (long retired), and Wild Wasabi (retiring). I love the soft pink as a background for all the flower photos, I just thought it worked so well here. If you're curious, you can see my scrapbook pages for the 2009 orchid festival here and here.
If you actually made it this far, and read the whole thing, I salute you! Thanks for "listening" to me yammer. Cheers!

Retiring: Swan Lake
Mornin', folks! Yesterday, Stampin' Up! dropped their retirement lists in preparation for the new catalog, so I'll most likely be revisiting some of the soon-to-retire stamp sets between now and June 1. And first on the list is Swan Lake.
Honestly, a big part of why I got Swan Lake is to do scrapbook pages for Neuschwanstein (the castle in Bavaria that was the basis for Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland; there are swan motifs everywhere in the castle). I haven't gotten to those pictures yet, but I did use the swan on another layout already. I do like this stamp set. So anyway, I paired the soon-to-retire with a couple of brand new (and continuing in the next catalog) stamp sets: Waterfront and Lots of Happy. I can't wait to play with Waterfront a bit more, and Lots of Happy is part of a card kit in the Occasions Catalog...I can now report that 4 out of 5 of the Lots of Happy sentiments fit perfectly in that Tailored Tag Punch. Yay!
Enough chatter, let's take a look at this week's color challenge from Global Design Project:
I love Tranquil Tide so I was happy to see this combination. I inked up both the swan and the sentiment with Versamark and then Night of Navy ink, and embossed both with clear embossing powder. That allowed me to watercolor some Crumb Cake shading on the swan without making the colors run. For the lake and shore, I stamped off once on scratch paper before stamping on the cardstock here to make the colors a little lighter, and just added more stamping until I liked how it looked.
Here's the sketch from Sunday Stamps that I used:
I like this sketch, it was fun! I left off the two little flagged pieces on the "any shape" element in the interests of keeping my card on the simpler side. I just hand-cut the mat for the Tailored Tag punch, easy enough since it's all straight lines. A few pearls and that was it!
Time to feed Ryan his second breakfast...he gets a bottle first thing and then a bowl of cereal a little later, and it's time for that. Plus I'm hungry too! Cheers!
Supplies, all SU!
Stamps: Swan Lake, Waterfront, Lots of Happy
Ink; Versamark, Night of Navy, Tranquil Tide, Crumb Cake, Calypso Coral
Paper: Crumb Cake, Night of Navy, Thick Very Vanilla, True Gentleman DSP

Copenhagen
Scrappy Monday, y'all! I've got a LOT of scrapbook layouts waiting to be shared which means I've gotten a lot of pages done :) So how about one I finished up just last week?
Copenhagen was the last stop on our Baltic cruise; we got a hotel room so we could spend a full day there before we went back home (check out all the pictures here). For this one, I used Mindy Backes' favorite color combination of Tranquil Tide, Lemon Lime Twist, and Calypso Coral. Are you squinting to see where I used Lemon Lime Twist and thinking I made some mistake? It's there...the patterned paper strip that goes across both pages used to be a Tranquil Tide pattern on Whisper White, but I sponged it with LLT. I wanted to tone down the white a little so it wouldn't compete with the journaling block, and that did the trick!
I stamped my title directly on another piece of patterned paper in the Delightful Daisy pack. I liked the watercolor feel of the patterns and thought they went well with the Little Mermaid statue in the photos.
So there's my color palette, as I mentioned: Tranquil Tide, Lemon Lime Twist, Calypso Coral, Night of Navy, and Whisper White. I had fun with these colors together so thanks to Mindy for the combination!
Cheers, y'all!
