Christmas Day 2003

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  We're going way back in time to the first Christmas after hubs and I got married in 2003.

Sometimes I hem and haw for ages trying to pick out cardstock colors, patterned paper, and stamps to use on a particular layout.  Other times (and I wish this happened more often), I know exactly what I want to do as soon as I pull out the pictures.  This one was one of those happy times so this layout came together lickety-split.  Yay!  It's fun to look at older pictures like this too and see how much I remember of what was going on.  I do remember that Kitchenaid mixer that my in-laws gave me for Christmas that year, we still have it although it's a bit worse for wear for having been carted hither and yon as hubs and I move around the world.  But it still works and gets used on the regular.  I just had to wait a few years for SU! to come out with a stand mixer stamp to use on this layout, haha!

Today's colors are Primrose Petals (retired), Night of Navy, Always Artichoke, Certainly Celery (retired), Sage Shadow (retired), and Whisper White.  The three greens are all in the patterned paper and while I would never in a million years have combined them on my own, I do love that pack o' paper.

That's it for me today, y'all.  Christmas cheers!

Nachos: Yummy Little Christmas

Happy Tuesday, kids!  I meant to get this post written and scheduled ahead of time, but yesterday was very long and very busy and I forgot because I think all my brain cells are being diverted to Baby Sodapop.  But anyway, today the Nachos have a color challenge for you!

And it's appropriately festive for December.  I haven't bought hardly any Christmas stamps this year though, and I've been both cooking and baking a lot, so my stamp set choice for today's card was pretty natural:

I bought Yummy Little Christmas on a whim a while back mostly because I liked that mixer stamp.  And actually I know exactly who's going to get this card too, so the stamp set has come in useful :)  I needed a wee snowflake background stamp for the Cherry Cobbler panel, so that came from Sheltering Tree.

So this layout isn't something I would typically come up with on my own...I CASEd it from the holiday catalog!  Page 27, if you're interested.  The proportions on my card area  little different because I used different stamps, but if you look at the catalog and then my card you'll see that they're definitely sisters.

So now it's your turn!  Upload your creation on the Nacho blog by December 19 for us to oooh and aaah over.  In the meantime, I'll probably be making another batch of these cranberry cardamom spice muffins, which are probably the most ridiculously spectacular thing to come out of my kitchen in recent memory.  Seriously, hubs couldn't stop talking about them after I made them for breakfast on Sunday.

Cheers!

Whisk It Good!

I now have a song stuck in my head (guess which one).  So I feel like today's card requires a bit of explanation...there's a guy who works in my husband's office and he and his wife are expecting their first baby any day now.  Whenever they get back from the hopsickle with their new baby, I'm going to make dinner for them and take it over, and I just happened to buy the set Yummy Little Christmas from the holiday catalog so...

Voila!  Okay really my favorite stamp in the set is the big Kitchenaid mixer, but I thought these cooking implement snowflakes were pretty funny and now I have a card where I can write in reheating instructions for whatever I make them for dinner (I'm thinking THIS).  Sorry my picture's not the best, but we currently have a disassembled crib sitting in front of the place where I take my pictures and it's kinda crazy in there right now.

So anyway, today's colors are from Cupcake Inspirations:

I used Tempting Turquoise and Night of Navy for the two blues, I thought they worked great for a pseudo-snowflake design.  I pulled out the long-retired stamp set Snowflakes for the Night of Navy panel because I just needed a little snowflake background stamp and don't have anything like that that's current.

And here's this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

I have to say it kinda threw me for a loop at first so I hope I did the sketch justice with my culinary snowflakes.  Anyway, I should get back downstairs to my in-laws so cheers, y'all!  Hope to be back tomorrow with a Friday Flashback, we'll see how it works.
