Blue Wishes for the Paper Players

Good morning, stampy friends!  I'm a bit late with my Paper Players post today, but it's been a loooong week.  Last weekend we went to Switzerland for a few days, which was awesome, and then when we came back both the hubs and I came down with Covid.  I spent most of the last week feeling like I'd been hit by a truck : (  We're getting better, but I've still got a ways to go before I'm fully recovered.  But here I am finally with my post for the Paper Players!  Check out Claire's Tic-Tac-Toe challenge:

Some fun options on there, am I right?  I elected to go for the middle row, die cut - blue - patterned paper.  Here's what I made:

This was actually the first card I made with Nature's Prints when I got it earlier this summer.  I bought the stamp set and coordinating DSPs (Sun Prints and Pretty Prints) on a whim for some scrapbook pages and I'm so glad I did, I've enjoyed playing with them.  You'll see the scrapbook pages later this fall : )  Anyway, this card came together super quickly because I loosely based the layout on a past Paper Players sketch.  Work smarter, not harder, right?

We hope you'll join us for this fun tic-tac-toe challenge and upload your card at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun stamping!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Nature's Prints
Ink:  Starry Sky, Night of Navy
Paper:  Gray Granite, Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Thick Basic White, Sun Prints DSP
Accessories:  Natural Prints dies, Waves of the Ocean rhinestones, Dimensionals

Promo Party

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Already the last Monday in July too, so I'm going to take this opportunity to share two stars-and-stripes-inspired layouts.

We had a big party in 2017 when the hubs was promoted, and were fortunate enough to have lots of friends and family come in from out of town.  It was quite the crowd in our house!

The thing I remember most about this day though was the ice cream.  We'd made a ton of food and there was a big cake and we had some ice cream, but I worried that it wouldn't be enough.  Dad went with me to the store and kept encouraging me to get more ice cream...at the end of the night we had GALLONS left over!  We were giving that stuff away left and right to anyone who would take it, haha!

Today's patriotic color combo:  Whisper White, Real Red, Blueberry Bushel, and Tempting Turquoise.  I absolutely LOVED that red-and-white star pattern but these two layouts used up the last of it.  Dear SU!, I want more patriotic DSP please.

Have a great Monday!

Supplies:
Stamps:  Be the Star, Rough Type, Fontwerks Alphabet
Ink:  Basic Gray, Whisper White
Paper:  Whisper White, Real Red, Blueberry Bushel, Tempting Turquoise, Big Top Birthday DSP
Accessories:  Star Framelits, White EP

A Cuppa Tea with the Paper Players

Good morning stampy friends!  Are you ready for another fabulous challenge from the amazing Paper Players?  Get ready, 'cause here it is!

A fun sketch from LeAnne!  Here's what I made with it:

It's been super-hot in Germany this last week, and we don't have AC, but that hasn't stopped me from having a morning cuppa almost every day : )  I usually drink my tea with some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and Truvia, but I couldn't resist this lemon pattern for today's card.  And this card has already been sent out, too.

Hope you'll make time to play along and post your card at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cup of Tea
Ink:  Tahitian Tide
Paper:  Daffodil Delight, Garden Green, Thick Basic White, Tea Boutique DSP Stack

Thankful Coneflowers

Mornin' y'all, I'm running a bit behind today.  I think the heat is slowing me down, but at least today is supposed to be a little bit cooler than yesterday.  Here's my card for the day:

I really wasn't sure what to think of this week's Freshly Made Sketch, so imagine my surprise when this card came together super fast and easy yesterday!

Paired that with the Color Throwdown:

I used Daffodil Delight, Call Me Clover, Tahitian Tide, and Crumb Cake for my colors, with some Early Espresso thrown in for contrast.

Got a lot to do today so I'd better hurry up and hop to it.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Nature's Harvest
Ink:  Early Espresso, Stampin' Blends in Daffodil Delight, Call Me Clover, Crumb Cake

Retro Leaf Trio

Hey stampy friends!  I had kind of an off day in my craft room yesterday, it took a lot of work to get my brain to settle down and create something, but I got there eventually.  Hope today's crafty session is a bit less like pulling teeth.  In the meantime, I have a new card using some older stamps to share today.

I made this for the Retro Rubber tic-tac-toe challenge:

I managed to do both of the diagonals--and wow for some reason the word "diagonal" isn't playing properly in my brain, I had to try spelling it three times and it still looks weird but my computer says it's right.  Hmm.  Anyway, I've got circles, green, patterned paper, die cuts, and nature on here.  The leaves and sentiment are from Rooted in Nature, which is a fabulous stamp set that I've had for four years and I'm surprised they retired it as quickly as they did.  For the circles behind my leaves, I stamped on some texture with a stamp from Nature's Harvest, which isn't quite a year old yet so it doesn't qualify as retro.  I took my colors from the coordinating Nature's Poem DSP, with a strip of Blackberry Bliss pattern paired with Mint Macaron and the retired (but still beautiful) Tranquil Tide.  It was fun to break out that retired color again.

Time to head up to the craft room and try to be productive.  Cheers, y'all!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Rooted in Nature, Nature's Harvest
Ink:  Tranquil Tide
Paper:  Mint Macaron, Tranquil Tide, Thick Basic White, Nature's Poem DSP

SUO Challenges: Create Your Own DSP

Greetings stampy friends!  It is time once more for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around it's a technique challenge:  create your own DSP!  Here's what I made:

Okay, the polka dots are a pre-printed pattern, but I made the crosshatch pattern myself.  I stamped the crosshatches and then used a blending brush to add a little bit more color to it to create the background for my cherries.  Easy as pie...cherry pie ; )  If you can't find patterned paper in the color that you want for a specific project, then make your own!  And don't forget to upload your card at the SUO Challenges blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Sweetest Cherries
Ink:  Pool Party, Sweet Sorbet, Soft Suede, Pear Pizzazz, Crushed Curry
Paper:  Pool Party, Thick Basic White, Sweet Sorbet DSP
Accessories:  Cherry Builder Punch, Dimensionals, Stylish Shapes dies, Stitched Rectangles dies, Rhinestone Waves Basic Jewels

Mimi & Grandpa Visit

Scrappy Monday y'all and happy birthday to my dad : )  Had to choose a layout to share today that has him on it, take a look:

Okay, mostly it's pictures of Ryan but that's okay.  This was from when my parents came to visit in summer of 2018 when Ryan was about 16 months old.  And now he's five and I told him yesterday that he has grown far too much and I Do Not Approve.  He laughed at me.

Today's summery color palette:  Green Galore, Night of Navy, Real Red, and Whisper White.

Hope you have a good week, y'all!  We'll be over here trying not to melt in the heat, it's supposed to get somewhere near 90 the next couple of days and here's us with no AC.  Wish us luck!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Notable Alphabet, Be the Star
Ink:  Real Red, Night of Navy
Paper:  Green Galore, Real Red, Night of Navy, Thick Whisper White, Birthday Bash DSP
Accessories:  Labels Collection Framelits

Hey Paper Players, Knock Knock!

Happy Sunday and there's a new Paper Players challenge coming your way!

This week the theme is courtesy of Ann.  I had to think about it for a while and then this happened:

My son Ryan is five and LOVES knock-knock jokes.  Several times a week, we have this conversation:
Ryan:  Hey Mama, knock-knock!
Me:  Who's there?
Ryan: Boo.
Me:  Boo who?
Ryan: *hysterical laughter*

He also tells other knock-knock jokes that make zero sense but he thinks they're funny.  I taught him the one that goes like this:
Me: Knock-knock!
Ryan: Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  Who's there?
Me:  Banana.
Ryan:  Banana who?
Me:  Knock-knock!
Ryan:  WHO'S THERE!!!
Me:  Orange.
Ryan: *already laughing* Orange who?
Me:  Orange you glad I didn't say Banana?
Ryan:  *more laughing*

So yes I made a card based on a silly knock-knock joke.  The card base (including the watercolor splat) was from a past Paper Pumpkin kit, the one with the silly puns, but even though that kit had bananas in it, I used the Cute Fruit stamps instead.

So now it's your turn!  Make a kid-tastic card and don't forget to keep it CAS, then share your creation at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Cute Fruit, Rough Edges Alphabets
Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake
Paper:  Thick Basic White, card from MPP kit
Accessories:  Mini Dimensionals

Sympathy Print

Hey y'all, how's your Friday going?  Ryan is feeling better so he's back at daycare today, and I spent the morning cleaning house.  Tonight the hubs and I are going to see the new Thor movie so woooo.

I find myself in need of some sympathy cards of late.  I hate making sympathy cards, especially when I need one, so every once in a while I try to make one or two when I *don't* need it yet so I'll have it on hand.

Okay really I can't find a place in my house to take pictures of cards or scrapbook pages that will consistently turn out okay for me, and it's a bit frustrating when sometimes all my photos turn out kind of blue.  Grr.  Anyway, I bought the stamp set Through It Together a while back, thinking I could use it for my friend who's still undergoing treatment for metastatic breast cancer, but then I figured out that "get well wishes" didn't feel appropriate and I don't want to do somber cards either, I'd rather send her bright happy cards because she probably gets enough doom and gloom at the hospital.  Does that make any sense at all?  Anyway, this won't be going to her anyway, I was thinking of another friend whose dad passed away recently when I made this one.

I used the color palette from Sunday Stamps:

I went with the first four colors, using Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Gray Granite, and Soft Succulent to approximate the swatches.  Then I used the sketch from Try Stampin' On Tuesday:

That's it for me today, peeps.  Hope you're having a great Friday.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Nature's Prints, Through It Together
Ink:  Night of Navy, Soft Succulent, Soft Succulent Blends

Cocktail Hour

Mornin' y'all.  Looks like I'll be staying home today with a kid who's feeling kinda puny so I'm going to get my blog post done now and then go do some serious couch time with him.  Hopefully I can talk him into watching something we'll both like.

In the meantime, new card for today:

Couple of cocktails!  Amusingly enough, I found the perfect sentiment for my card in the Cup of Tea stamp set.  I generally don't drink alcohol (I just don't care for it), but two cheery cocktails seemed like the perfect fit for this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Tahitian Tide, Daffodil Delight, Gorgeous Grape, and Calypso Coral for my colors.  That sure is a fun inspo pic too!

As usual, I paired the Color Throwdown with this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

Love this one.  Okay, I'm off to be Dr. Mom for my kiddo.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!

It's a Jungle Out There

When I was in high school, our marching band director would sometimes take us on a run through the jungle.  Not an actual jungle, mind you--I grew up in Texas ;) but he would have everyone jog in place and do an entire monologue about running through the jungle, and we had to jump over streams and run around trees and duck to get away from snakes and dodge around animals and whatever else he could think of.  It was a fun and silly way to warm up before marching band rehearsal.  And today, I've brought the jungle into my craft room.

I could not let the Festive Friday challenge go by without playing along!

One of my favorite people ever absolutely loved tigers so I think of her any time I see anything related to tigers.  My current Facebook profile pic is a tiger, too, and it's the Year of the Tiger.  So anyway, I decided to go all out with the stripes for World Tiger Day, and from the inspo list I used a frame, two tigers, lots of stripes, orange (Cajun Craze is dark orange, right?), fur, and jungle (check out the jungle leaves).  The only stamping on here is the greeting (and I finally inked up my Evening Evergreen ink pad!); all the rest, including the tigers, is different patterns from the In the Wild DSP pack.  I had cut the oval shape out when I was working on a previous card so I just used that scrap and built the rest of the card around it.

Hope you have a great day today, peeps!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Wild Cats

Star Baby

Mornin' y'all!  Hope your week is off to a good start.  Over the weekend, the hubs and I put together baby gifts for two people who work for him that are expecting babies.  It was 9:00 on Sunday night and I said I needed to make cards for them, and hubs was like "just skip the cards", and I said, "Honey, I am a CARD Maker, It's What I DO" and then I made two of these.

I personally do not care for all the gray baby clothes/sheets/etc. that's all the rage right now, but I seem to be a minority of one.  That's okay though, I made these to match some of the items we chose to include in the gifts.  I broke out a couple of very old stamp sets for this because I used the Retro Rubber sketch:

Hey, Retro Rubber team, thanks for choosing my card as a winner for the last challenge!  I sent an email as instructed, but you'll probably have to check your spam filter : )

Anyway, my two cards came together quickly thanks to this sketch.  One couple has elected not to find out the gender beforehand, the other baby is a girl, but I just made two gender-neutral cards to keep it simple for me.  Baby Tees was originally a jumbo wheel that I cut apart to make five stamps; I've had it for at least 10 years and Sweet Essentials (the sentiment) is also 10 years old.  The Twinkle, Twinkle DSP is not quite that old but still four or five years.

Didn't get to work much in my craft room yesterday so I'm going to hop to it right now.  Right after I start the next load of laundry...

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Baby Tees, Sweet Essentials
Ink:  Night of Navy, Blends in Gray Granite, So Saffron, Soft Sea Foam

Warwick Castle

Scrappy Monday!  Hope y'all had a good weekend.  We had a relaxing weekend at home, which was lovely.  And for today I have a scrapbook layout that I made fairly recently.

See the original pics here.  I know I used the TINIEST strips of that patterned paper on here, but they were already-cut scraps and I wanted to keep this layout super simple.  I think what took the longest on this one was deciding on the color palette, but here's what I ended up with:

Summer Starfruit, Primrose Petals, Baja Breeze, Basic Gray, and Very Vanilla.  At first I wanted to do greens because of how much green is in the pictures, but then *everything* would look green.  I think I picked Summer Starfruit for the page base just because I hadn't used it for a page base before, and then looked through my old Color Coaches (I have three different editions) and In Color combinations until I found one I liked. *shrug*  Warwick wasn't my favorite castle, and this isn't my favorite layout, but that's okay--done is better than perfect, I think.

I did a lot of scrapping last week and I'm looking forward to getting a bit more done this week.  I tend to ponder my next few scrapbook layouts while I'm driving or trying to get to sleep at night, I just need the time to get all my ideas down on paper.  : )  Cheers, y'all!

Cool Colors with the Paper Players

I was just typing the title for this blog post and somehow instead of typing a P it typed the Greek symbol pi, I have no idea how that happened : )  At any rate, it's time for a new challenge from the Paper Players!

New In Colors?  Yes, please.  And they immediately made my little brain think tropical, so of course...

...I had to use Artfully Layered again.  I don't know why I love those leaves so much, I just do!  So this time around I was going to try a technique I've seen floating around for a bit where you scribble on vellum with alcohol markers (Stampin' Blends) and then spritz with alcohol to get a cool marbley pattern.  But it didn't work at all for me, maybe because my alcohol is only 70% and not 90%?  After some experimentation, I did make something I rather liked (and also a big mess).  So I inked up two acrylic blocks, one with Tahitian Tide and the other with Parakeet Party, then I stamped those on the vellum.  Then I can't remember if I spritzed with the alcohol, just water, or both (I made this a few weeks ago), but I used something, and my vellum curled up like a scroll so I used my heat tool to dry the ink.  So that's how I got the background.

Then I die-cut my rectangle out of the Tahitian Tide card front (slightly crooked, but that's the charm of handmade cards, right?) and used Tombow glue to adhere the vellum to the backside of the Tahitian Tide--gotta hide the adhesive when you use vellum.  Then I stuck both pieces to a white card with regular SNAIL adhesive and squished it all flat under several catalogs while I did the rest of the stamping and made another card, I wanted to give the adhesive a good chance to dry and get that vellum as flat as I could.  Then I just added the leaf, sentiment, and a few matte dots.

I like how the background looks but I don't know how often I'll be trying this technique.  Most of my fingers were blue and green for a day or two after I finished.  I do have a trick though if you're doing techniques that involve spritzing with water or alcohol:  I have a couple of super-cheap plastic placemats that I put on my work area, and I spritz on top of those.  Usually they come clean with a spritz of water when I'm done, and the rest of my work area stays protected.

Wow that was a lot of talking from me today.  I hope you'll give these colors a whirl and share your card with us on the Paper Players blog.  Have fun and get inky!

Leaf Prints

Hey y'all, how goes your Friday?  I am super sore from falling down yesterday when I was going down the stairs--I've got some bruises on my back but no serious damage, thankfully.  But I don't want to move much today.

I do have a card to share.

I got the new Nature's Prints bundle and both coordinating sets of patterned paper and I love them all but this card feels a bit lackluster to me.  Also the sequins are Calypso Coral, they just reflected the light when I took the picture.

Check out the awesome Try Stampin' on Tuesday sketch:

Might have to give this sketch another go as I really like it but I'm not that impressed with what I made this time around.  Which means I'd better skedaddle upstairs while I have the opportunity.  Cheers, y'all!

Sending a Sunflower

Mornin' y'all.  We got back late Tuesday from a trip to the Côte d'Azur (Nice, Monaco, and Provence) and yesterday I was just too tired to work on a blog post.  But I did get a couple of things done in my craft room so I have a card to share today.

This is the maiden voyage for both Celebrate Sunflowers and Sending Smiles.  I got Celebrate Sunflowers a few months ago when it was one of the bundles on sale for a short time, and I got Sending Smiles on my most recent order after seeing so many pretty cards made by the Paper Players design team.  The Hardwood background stamp is older and retired : )

For this card, I started with the Global Design Project sketch:

And I paired it with the Color Throwdown:

I used Blends to color in my sunflower with dark So Saffron (to look like Crushed Curry), light and dark Pumpkin Pie, and light and dark Crumb Cake, with Early Espresso to ink up the image.  The sunflower popped into my head as soon as I saw these colors and I thought the GDP sketch was perfect to showcase it.  Love it when things come together!

I'm off to do laundry and other fun stuff.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Celebrate Sunflowers, Sending Smiles, Hardwood
Ink:  Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Stampin' Blends in So Saffron, Crushed Curry, Crumb Cake, Old Olive
Paper:  Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Thick Basic White

Out to Sea with SUO Challenges

Hey hey, ready for a new challenge from SUO Challenges?

Our theme this time is nautical and sea life, so let's go out to sea!  A quick look through my current stamps showed that I have just ONE sea-related image so....how about a mermaid?

I had the idea to pair her with the New Horizons DSP which sold out quick last month, hope you got some for your collection.  I love how the watercolor patterns look with the mermaid and I had fun choosing three to go with my sketch, which was a sketch challenge last month and I liked it so I had to use it again.  I fussy-cut the mermaid and popped her up on Dimensionals, and I must admit that cutting out her hair was pretty fiddly but I like how it turned out.  She's a celestial mermaid!

I'm sure you have some kind of nautical or sea life stamps in your collection, and of course mythical sea creatures count too ; )  Share your creation on the SUO Challenges blog and have fun!

July 4, 2018

Scrappy Monday and do I have the *perfect* layout to share ON July 4th!

Pics are from when Ryan was nearly a year and a half old; we set up a sprinkler in the backyard and he had a ball playing in the water.  I had a ball taking pictures of him, so I'm glad I was able to squish LOTS of the photos on my layout!  In the evening, we set off some small fireworks we'd bought and that scared poor lil Ryan, that's why he's unhappy in the pic with me.  But then he ate some of Dad's apple pie and that made it all better : )  And that's why I used the apple pattern from the old, old Summer Picnic DSP on this page--American as apple pie!

Today's color palette:  Brilliant Blue (I don't have much cardstock left in this color, I've gone into hoarding mode), Real Red, Coastal Cabana, and Whisper White.

If you're celebrating for the 4th, I hope you have a happy and safe celebration, and I recommend that it include apple pie.  And maybe a sprinkler to play in when you're done eating pie.  Cheers!

Stamps: Red White & Blue, Simply Stars, One Smart Cookie, Tart & Tangy

Green Thumb for the Paper Players

Sunday once again, and that means it's time for a new Paper Players challenge!  I'm so glad they invited me to be a guest designer for them this year, I've been having such a fun time : )  Here's the new theme challenge:

I have to say, my house is where plants come to die...I very much do NOT have a green thumb, mine are both black!  (And sometimes all my fingers are multicolored, ha!)  Paper flowers are the only ones I can grow.  We do have five orchid plants in our kitchen window, but my hubs is solely responsible for keeping those alive, I can claim no credit for that!  Happily, I can have all the paper flowers I want in my craft room.

If you're wondering if I used last week's sketch *again*, you are correct!  I made this when I was on my sketch spree for last week's challenge and decided when I got to TEN cards that I should probably split them up between the challenges : )  So I used last week's sketch and the beautiful and rainbow-y Hues of Happiness DSP to make several more cards!

I'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to pretty papers, so I kinda had to force myself to cut into this paper, but I'm so glad I did.  I had fun playing with the different colors and fussy cutting the flowers (I don't have the coordinating stamp and die bundle).

This is a bit more liberal take on the sketch, I thought the center stripe on the DSP could stand in for the horizontal layer on the sketch.  And this paper is so pretty that I didn't want to cover it up if I could help it.  It was fun picking and choosing which flowers to fussy cut for my cards, so many choices!

Hope you'll have a good time with this theme too!  Don't forget to upload your green thumb creations at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Tropical Butterflies

Happy Friday y'all, and for those of you in America, I wish you a lovely (and safe) holiday weekend.  In the meantime, I have a summery card to share.

I had some fun yesterday coloring up these tropical butterflies : ). Check out the Hand Stamped Sentiments sketch:

And the Global Design Project colors:

I admit, my first thought was to use the leaves in Artfully Layered because I love it so much, but then Butterfly Brilliance caught my eye and I had to go with the butterflies this time instead.

Better get moving and finish packing for our weekend adventure.  Cheers!
