Bubblegum Ice Cream

Mornin' y'all!  Blogger was being a little bit weird for some reason, but it seems like it's working now so let's get to it!  Today we're starting with Time Out Challenges:

And you know what,  I have an old SU! stamp set named Sweet Treats so obviously I had to get that out.  I think I got that stamp set fairly early in my stamp career, I'm thinking prior to 2010 so it's been here a while but it's still fun.  Here's what I made:

I had to color in the image twice, because the first time I colored in the cherry first and when I finished I realized I needed to switch the colors on the cherry and the ice cream topping, here's my first attempt:

Definitely looks better with the sauce darker than the cherry, but I had to color the second one in a hurry since I had dinner in the oven and I was trying to finish before the chicken was done cooking.  I suppose this image could be strawberry ice cream, but I'm going to call it bubblegum ice cream because my kiddo likes the weird flavors like that (though usually he'll go for one that's bright blue instead of pink).  I chose pinks for my card today for the Color Dare Challenge:

I went with Bubble Bath for my lightest pink, and then chose two darker shades, Magenta Madness and Berry Burst.  You know, I usually don't use much Berry Burst but here lately I have used it several times.  My additional color is Lost Lagoon because I thought it would jive well with the other colors, and it worked for the glass and the cherry leaf.

My first errand yesterday took much longer than expected so I didn't get as much done in my craft room as I wanted to yesterday, but I didn't have any errands to run today so I should be clear to craft as soon as I take Daphalonia on her walk.  For once she's not shoving her nose under my elbow telling me to hurry up, but that could change at any moment.  Maybe she's tired because she played with Ryan this morning and he threw her toy and it BROKE OFF bits of the wall where it hit.  I think the hubs will be able to fix it but he won't be happy about it.  At least it was one of the walls that I want to repaint anyway, and we've got another wall on the staircase landing where Daph cannon-balled into it so that eventually needs fixed too.  I think we're going to paint the master suite before we go back and repaint the living room/stairs/upstairs hallway/loft.  Anyway, none of that will be today, I've got some card ideas swirling around for today.  Cheers!

A Really Retro Birthday

Happy Friday, y'all!  Hope you've had a good week back.  The gym has been TOUGH this week--amazing what taking just one week off will do!  But I'm getting back in the swing of things and also getting in my craft room, so I'm happy.

Retro Rubber is celebrating challenge #100, so I had to pick out some really retro stamps to make my card!  Sweet Treats (the cake stamp) is really REALLY retro, as I've had it since 2006; Happy Happenings (the sentiment) is from 2015.  All the paper is really retro too; all my colors are long-retired as well as the DSP.  That patterned paper is what first popped into my head when I saw this challenge so I went with my first instinct here.  Check out the Retro Rubber challenge:

I did the far right column and the bottom row; I painted the cake with Wink of Stella for sparkle but it doesn't show up in the photograph (and I took several, trying to get it to cooperate).  I used pewter embossing powder (also long retired) to count as a metallic and the heat embossing.  I'm efficient that way.

I also used a retro sketch, this one from Palm Trees & Pogo Sticks:

I love that sketch, would definitely use it again.

That's it for me today, y'all.  I've gotta get the house ready because my in-laws are on their way here for a visit.  Cheers!

Friday Flashback: Whimsical Alphabet

Ok, I really didn't do it on purpose, but somehow I drew the names of three alphabet stamp sets when I was grabbing the next batch of Friday Flashback stamp sets.  So get ready for another scrapalicious (and long) Friday Flashback featuring the Whimsical Alphabet!  And maybe the numbers, too :)

Also features Beyond the Basics
Several years ago there was a challenge on Splitcoast to make a scrapbook layout for a family.  The wife/mom of four had died unexpectedly; she was an avid scrapbooker but like pretty much all scrappers, she had thousands of photos unscrapped.  So I emailed the project coordinators and got a couple batches of photos and made two layouts; I left the journaling space blank so someone who knew the family could write there.

Also features Darling Dragons, Background Basics
Do you remember the TV show Dinosaurs?  With the baby dinosaur who always said "Not the mama!" to his dad?  Welllll, dragons are kinda like dinosaurs, right?

Here's a layout from Okinawa, when the hubs took a cheapo underwater camera with him on a scuba diving trip to see whale sharks.

Also features Simply Spring, Bunch o' Bugs, Bold Basics
There's my kiddos dressed up for Halloween!

Also features Simply Spring, Bunch o' Bugs
Or should I say, HOWLoween!

Also features Ancient Asia
I know you've seen this one before, it does seem to keep popping up.

And here's a funny card for ya featuring the Whimsical numbers.

Also features Happy Hearts, Dream Come True
I don't much like the color scheme on this one, but I think the idea was cute and I do like how I stamped the "love" on it.

Also features Mixed Bouquet
I kinda miss Apricot Appeal.  Or Peach Parfait.  I wouldn't mind having another pale orange in the next set of In Colors.

Also features Lovely Leaves
I did this layout not too long after I started stamping, it's one of the first scrapbook layouts I made with stamps.  So you know I've had this alphabet for a long time.

Also features Wanted, Bronc Buster
I think this is the only time I've ever decorated a gift bag :)

Also features Sweet Treats, Background Basics
And this one was on here recently too, when I did the Sweet Treats Friday Flashback.  So yep, I think I've gotten some good use out of this alphabet, and for today's new project I have another layout:

Yay!  Love happy layouts!  This was from lil girl's first birthday party, and her daddy has a July birthday too so he got his own Over the Hill pie.

Closeup of the title.  Since I didn't do mixed fonts, I did two colors:  Pumpkin Pie and Rose Red.   This layout is also the maiden voyage for Be the Star, which I just got recently.  I think the sketchy style of the stars paired nicely with the alphabet.

And there's my color palette:  Pretty in Pink (retired), Regal Rose (retired), Rose Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Gable Green (retired).  This is why I love my color swatch book, it reminds me to use retired colors for my layouts.  Searching through all my paper scraps for this layout is what made me organize all of them this week.  So glad THAT's done, it was ridiculous.

That's it for me, peeps.  Cheers to a great weekend!

Supplies, last layout only:
Stamps:  Whimsical Alphabet Upper & Lower, Be the Star
Ink:  Pumpkin Pie, Green Galore, Rose Red ink pad & marker
Paper:  Pretty in Pink, Gable Green, Whisper White, Sweet Always DSP, Party Animal SSK
Accessories:  Stars Framelits

Friday Flashback: Sweet Treats

It's the first Friday of the new year and that means the first Friday Flashback of 2015!  So today's stamp set is a real oldie, Sweet Treats, which retired in 2006.  Let's take a look back, shall we?

Also features Filigree
Please pardon the terrible picture, this card actually looked much better IRL than in this photo.  The filigree background was embossed with Iridescent Ice, as was the entire panel with the cake on it, so it was very sparkly.

Also features Teeny Tinies and Beyond the Basics
There are people who call the long-retired Orchid Opulence color Fairy Puke Purple, but I actually liked it and set out to make a card with it to try to make other people like it too.  Not sure if I changed anyone else's mind, but I enjoyed the challenge.

Also features Background Basics and Whimsical Alphabet
And here's the third stamp in the set, which now has me wishing I had ice cream.  And also one of those cool dishes to put an ice cream sundae in.

Also features Whimsical Blossoms wheel and A Greeting for All Reasons

Last but not least, this was the card I made for the first swap I ever participated in, not too long after I started stamping.  I do have a collection of wheels, but very rarely did I ever use them except when they were current.  Well, there were a few that I cut up and made into individual stamps, so I used those a bit more often.

Anywha, here's today's brand new creation:

January is my birthday month so I thought I would make a birthday card today.  Someone else is having a birthday too:

The color challenge at Colour Me...! is to pick one of the previous challenges, so I got some scrap paper to write down a couple of the challenges that I liked.  Then I ended up writing down about 2/3 of them, so I could probably do a Colour Me card every day for the rest of the month ;)  But here's the one I picked for today:

Nommy picture, and I do love the colors together!  So that's that.

It's raining in Alabama and I'd been hoping to take the dogs for a walk today.  Guess I'll have to do laps around my house until we leave to go see Night at the Museum 3 at the theater?  Cheers, peeps!

Supplies, last card only:
Stamps:  Sweet Treats, Birthday Wish (single stamp)
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Bermuda Bay, Real Red, Smoky Slate, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive
Paper:  Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, Whisper White, scraps of Big Top Birthday & Fresh Prints (of Bel Air!) DSP
