Friday Flashback: For All You Do

Happy Friday, ya'll!  How are you this rainy afternoon?  Yeah, I'm late getting my Friday Flashback post up, but today we're celebrating the retired stamp set For All You Do, which is really cute even if the name isn't very descriptive.  So let's get started!

Also features Essence of Love, Strength & Hope, Elements of Style

Japan pages!  The butterfly next to "Park" is the one from today's stamp set.  This layout is a little busier than my usual style, what with three different patterned papers and the more complicated placement of all the elements, but I do really love it.

Also features Bloomin' Beautiful
That wee flower on the journaling block is from For All You Do...

Also features Fresh Fillers

And there's the butterfly again.  And I'm sad that that was all I had in the archives for this set, and so I set out to remedy that today.

I continue to be enamored of CAS cards this week (I thought to myself, I can't stop CAS-ing and then I laughed because I amuse myself) and this one started with the color challenge from Cupcake Inspirations:

I wrote down pink, yellow and purple so I accidentally got a real hot pink instead of a baby pink.  Oops.  I also used this week's CAS(E) This Sketch:

And I kinda want to make like five more cards with it.  Anyway, when I made the first card I kept thinking the colors were yellow, pink, and teal like a certain My Little Pony:

Hi Fluttershy!  So when I re-read the challenge colors I thought I should make a Fluttershy card anyway, so bonus Friday Flashback card!

To be honest though, I'm not sure how much I like this one.  I do like the colors together (So Saffron, Pretty in Pink and Bermuda Bay) but I'm not sure about my composition here.  I did some Wink of Stella on the butterfly for a wee bit of sparkle.

Since I wasn't 100% thrilled with that card, I made another one, but not another Fluttershy one.

Okay, what is the deal.  I edit my photos on the computer and then somehow when I go to upload them on the blog they look so much darker!  Grr.  Anyway, the idea for this card popped into my head and I figured that I really hadn't done justice to the stamp set so I made a third card.  The sentiment on this one is from Great Friend, another set with a pretty butterfly and a nondescript name, and they share a stamp case in my house.

Anyway, for this last card I used the color combo from Pals Paper Arts:

So there you have it, this Flashback was equal parts old and new projects.  Hope you have a great weekend, y'all!

Friday Flashback: Whimsical Words

Happy Friday!  Are you ready for a new Friday Flashback?  The retired stamp set du jour is Whimsical Words, which was a Sale-a-Bration set back in 2010.  Let's go!

Also features Great Friend
I like that "small wonder" stamp for a baby shower card, I think it's appropriate but a little different from your typical baby card sentiments.

I made this one for a swap; this is the year that Melon Mambo, Rich Razzleberry, and Crushed Curry were new In Colors.  Still love that Razzleberry Lemonade DSP.

Aaaaand that's all the Flashback, but I'm doubling the size of my personal Whimsical Words gallery today.

I found a sketch I liked and then went through my retired DSP scraps until I found some pieces I liked, and then I put together this (also intended as a baby card) and this:

I used this basic color combination on a layout in the twin boys' baby books, and I like how bright and cheerful it is.  Though now that I look at it I think maybe I should have made the card base Tempting Turquoise instead of Daffodil Delight.

Anyway, here's the sketch from Just Add Ink:
So that's it for me this week, peeps.  Today's task is to get the baby books boxed up and shipped out to my friend, so I'm going to go get started.  Cheers!

Friday Flashback: Great Friend

Welcome to another edition of the Friday Flashback!  This week's set is the super-cute Great Friend, which includes an awesome butterfly stamp.  First up let's check out the archives:

The butterfly lends itself beautifully to the rock 'n' roll technique.  This was a baby shower card for my friend Melissa; I made her a baby book which also included that DSP and the butterfly stamp on the first page.

I made a set of these but I can't remember now if they were thank you cards for after my birthday or if I made a set for my SU! customers.  I still have one of these in my stash and it inspired a swap card I recently made (which will show up on the blog sooner or later, promise!).

And now for the all-new card!

I'm pretty pleased with it.  I like how the bright colors pop on the black DSP, but of course I didn't come up with the combo on my own...I got it from another brand spankin' new challenge blog, Inkspirational:

I used Primrose Petals for my pink...I was going to go with Melon Mambo but I don't have any ribbon that color.  The green is the retired In Color, Kiwi Kiss.  I think it's fun to mix the new In Colors with some retired colors...but then again, I'm of the opinion that SU! should introduce 5 new colors a year and never get rid of any even if it means we have 5,426 ink colors.  I like options.  And LOTS of colors.

The layout is courtesy of last Friday's sketch from the good folks at Sketch Frenzy Friday:

Once again I have taken a few liberties with the sketch but the basic elements are there.  What can I say?  I'm a rebel.

Happy Friday and thanks for stopping by for another Friday Flashback!
