Dino-Riffic Birthday

Mornin' y'all!  My dino-loving Friend Krissy's birthday is coming up soon so I had to make her a dinosaur card to go with her gift, which went out in the mail yesterday in a fun rainbow-striped box!

I used this week's sketch from the Paper Players:

I made my card the standard size instead of a square because I just don't like making square cards.  I'm weird that way.  Krissy's favorite dinosaur is the stegosoarus; a while back I made her a steggy Hanukkah card : ). This time I started by choosing a couple of scraps from the Dinoroar DSP and went from there.  It was fun to play with Pineapple Punch and Mango Melody again even though they're retired.

Time to get Ryan off to school so that's it for me, peeps.  Cheers!

Holiday Dinosaur

Y'ALL.  I don't know the last time I was this tickled about a card I made.

I'm just gonna let it speak for itself.

Bet you've never seen a Hanukkah dinosaur, have you?  Bwahahahaaaaa!  My friend Krissy *loves* dinosaurs, and she posted on Facebook a while back about looking for a stegosaurus menorah.  And a little while later, my little brain thought hey, I have stegosaurus stamps...and a menorah stamp.  I wonder how they line up size-wise.  And then it was just a matter of time before I made one in paper!  I'm pretty tickled with how it turned out, though fussy-cutting those bitty candles was a job of work.  I used the great sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday:

I chose Starry Sky for my main color, with Tahitian Tide and Mango Melody for the candles and Smoky Slate for a good neutral behind Mr. Stego.  My husband called on the phone while I was fussy-cutting the last couple of candles and I was positively cackling.  I've got to get this in the mail PDQ, because Krissy is going to love it!

Hope you have a great day, peeps.  I'm off to search for Ryan's missing library books.

Dinos Know How To Party

Mornin' y'all and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  I'm excited to dress up with Ryan this evening to pass out candy.  He's still too little to contemplate giving him a gigundor pile of sugar, so we won't be trick-or-treating; I do have a really, REALLY gigundor pile of sugar for the kids who come to our house (I've heard there are lots of trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood).

Anyway, my honorary niece Leora has her birthday today, isn't that fun?  Back in September Leora and her mama called me and asked if I could make invitations for Leora's birthday party.  Leora wanted something with DINOSAURS and BATS and THE MOOOOOOON!!!  I asked what her favorite colors are and she said RAINBOOOOWWWWWW!!!

So what would you do with those guidelines?  I can show you what I did...

Dinosaurs?  Check.  Bats?  Check.  The MOOOOOON?  Check.  And even dinosaur bones because Halloween.  And also lots of colors and even some glitter because what 7-year-old girl doesn't love glitter.  It took a while to heat emboss the dinosaurs and the moon after I stamped the dino bones and the bats, but then the backgrounds were done super-quick by inking up a baby wipe with drops of ink refill and swiping across the glossy white cardstock.  Navy blue and teal for the sky, dark green for the ground.  I made 20 of these during naptime over the course of a few days.  Hope Leora liked them!

Ryan and I will shortly be heading to the gym as a way to keep my paws off the Halloween candy.  Ryan is too young to read the bags so he doesn't know what he's missing yet, hahahahahaaaa!  Cheers, y'all!

Boneless Dino

Salutations and greetings, stampy friends.  I'm glad it's Friday!

Super quick card for today.  Like, the only part that took a couple of minutes was cutting out the dinosaur, but I think it's still pretty cute .  No Bones About It and Work of Art are both retiring, and this card makes me wish I'd used Work of Art more often because I'm loving the triple stamped swoosh here.

Let's start with the Just Add Ink challenge:

I used orange and if you really want to stretch it then I used a din-O.  Hee.  Too bad I didn't see this challenge for yesterday's card, since that one had an oval and I used Orange Blossom and it featured a flaming-O.  Hee hee.

Next up is the CAS(E) this Sketch sketch:

And that is what made this card super fast.  And now I have a cute kid card to send out to someone.

Time to go give my cute kid a bath.  Cheers, y'all!

Happy Bird-Day!

Happy Friday, y'all!  My little monster is on his playmat on the floor next to me (and hence NOT "helping" me type!) making monster noises while chomping on a giraffe toy.  I love my little weirdo.

Card time!

My friend Missy's birthday was yesterday (HI MISSY!!!!) and for some reason I kept thinking it was much later in the month, maybe I was mixing her up with my "niece" Emma?  I don't know.  I plead mommy brain.  But I made this for her and I've got a li'l something to go with it next time I see Missy.  It's a 5" square card because of this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And I also used this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo (because DUH flamingo!), and Cucumber Crush.  You might be looking at my card and thinking where's the second pink shade?  If you look at the flamingo, she's actually two colors.  I inked up the stamp with Flirty Flamingo, and then used a sponge dauber to add darker Melon Mambo ink on her legs and head.  Promise I used two pinks.

Hope you have a lovely Friday.  I'm going to play with my monster baby until I can convince him that naps are goooooood.  Cheers, y'all!

Dinos Gettin' Fancy

Howdy, y'all!  Didja miss me yesterday?  I was working on scrapbook pages on Monday so didn't get a card done for yesterday.  But I've got a doozy today...I did a fancy fold!

I got the idea for this from Lyssa Zwolanek's blog.  Her tutorial is pretty easy to follow, but if you try  it, be aware that one of the measurements is off:  you should score at 2.5 inches, not 2.75.  You want the four side panels to all be 1.25 inches wide.  It only took me three tries to figure that out *rolls eyes* I couldn't math yesterday, y'all.

There you can see the inside panel, which doesn't really show up if you're looking at the card straight on.  It's just four score lines to make the card base, two peaks and two valleys.  I did the outside two score lines and flipped the paper over to score the two inside lines on the other side to make it easier to fold (does that make sense?).

I thought the Fab Friday color challenge would be good for a kid birthday card:

And the Global Design Project theme challenge is exactly what I needed this week:

My "niece" Emma's birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, so now I just need to get this in the mail to her.  (Uh, I still haven't mailed off birthday cards I made for earlier this month, which are both now late...)

There's the back; I did the message on the back so it wouldn't be covered up by the band across the front.  I still need a birthday card for my dad too, d'ya think he'd like dinosaurs?

Cheers, y'all!

Think Pink

Hey kids!  I was *determined* to get a card made for today and here it is 6:30 but I made it.  And it's PINK!

We met up with some friends of ours on New Year's Eve who now live in Hawaii, and they gave us some cute baby clothes so this is the card I made to send to them.  Ashlea loves her some hot pink and bling, so this is not the first flamingo she's gotten from me :)

I used the first new Freshly Made Sketch of the year:

I didn't do my stripes on the left *exactly* like on the sketch but I think it's not too far out of line.  Don't call the challenge police on me.

The Color Throwdown has the perfect combination for a flamingo card this week:

I used Basic Black, Melon Mambo, and Old Olive for my colors.

And now the hubs is making me dinner, I'm a lucky girl.  Cheers, y'all!

Ladybug Love

Mornin', y'all!  I was wondering if I'd get to blog today even though I already had a card made.  Since hubs and I got a new camera a couple weeks ago, we had to download new software to transfer the photos to the computer, and it took me a while this morning to figure out where it was putting the pictures.  But happily, I found it, and here's my card!

I had started off with a completely different idea involving a different color combo and stamps, and somehow I ended up with this.  I got the Love You Lots hostess set a while ago but this is the first time it's been inked up at all.  So anyway, I started with the sketch from Global Design Project:

My interior panels ended up being smaller due to the scale of the image I used, and I'm also kind of experimenting with white space.  But I had to go with the ladybugs because of the Paper Players color challenge:

Because like Mary Mary I am quite contrary and I just have to do something non-Christmasy with a red and green color combo :D

Anyway, I've got to run.  I must finish singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody that is playing on my computer right now and then I've got to get the house ready for my in-laws to be here this afternoon.  Cheers!

Independent T-Rex

So I sat down this morning to make a birthday card for my brother, and instead, I got...this.

Uh, not what I was expecting but I rolled with it!  This T-Rex just *insisted* on being the focal point for today's card.  I used the great sketch from Fab Friday:

I didn't want to add a black cardstock border around all my layers, but I did want them to have a bit more definition, so I lightly dragged the edges of the layers in Basic Black ink which is just the look I was going for.  I didn't do the top edge and maybe I should have?  But I think it makes the colors play nice together.  Speaking of colors, they're courtesy of the Color Throwdown:

Love that picture too.  I used Wild Wasabi, Pumpkin Pie, and Soft Sky for my SU!-ified colors.  Other than cutting out Miss Independent, this card came together PDQ.  And I know just who should get it, so I think I'll go write a message in it to Emma and Abby and get this in the mail today :)  What 5- and 8-year-olds don't like getting mail?

Cheers, y'all!

Pinky the Dinosaur

My friend Tiana informed me that wee little girl children like dinosaurs just as much as boys do, so I made today's card for her daughter's birthday later this month.

Dinosaurs can be pink!  I just got the gold and silver metallic shapes that replaced Candy Dots, and if you've heard that you can't really move them once they touch the paper then I can tell you that's true.  The top one scooted a little bit, but the bottom one just would NOT move so it's crooked, but really is a newly-minted 8-year-old going to notice?  I think not.

Pinky the Dinosaur started with the flamingo-licious color combination from Cupcake Inspirations:

I actually just got Pop of Paradise that has a flamingo in it, but I couldn't resist stamping a pink dinosaur today.  You'll get to see the flamingo soon enough, I'm sure.  I've been struggling with color combinations for Flirty Flamingo just as much as Sweet Sugarplum, but I really liked this combination.  To SU-ify it, I used Pool Party and Cucumber Crush with the aforementioned Flamingo.

Next up is today's Freshly Made Sketch:

I made my card a standard A2 rather than square, I don't do square cards much.

Anyway, I need to get to the post office and the grocery store...and maybe some lunch too.  Ta-ta for now, peeps!

World's Fastest Dino Card

Mornin' kids!  How are you this fine Wednesday?  Sadie says she wants to go for a walk and I think I'll have to take her since it's not raining today--it rained all day yesterday.  Again.  SO tired of the rain.

Anyway, today I have the world's fastest dinosaur card for you!  But just because I put it together in five minutes doesn't mean it's not cute.

I'm still having fun coming up with color combinations featuring Emerald Envy; today I paired it with Tempting Turquoise and Pumpkin Pie.  At first I wanted to tear the bottom edge rather than the top, but I'd stamped the stegosaurus and sentiment a little too far down for that to work right so I did the top instead.  I actually like it that way, it's a little more unexpected.  Thought about adding some Candy Dots or something, but then I decided it's better CAS.

I'm entering this over at the Paper Players:

Dinosaurs were wild animals, right?  ; )

Okay, as soon as I finish breakfast I'm off to take my little doggos for a walk.  Cheers, y'all!

Baby Books: August

Guess what, y'all?  This is the last month layout from the twins' baby books that I have to share.  There are a couple other layouts but this is the last of the monthly ones, and it's DINOSAURS.

Kinda fun, right?  The big leafy pattern is from an old pack called Island Oasis, and even though it's just monochromatic Old Olive, I used that pack for color inspiration for the rest of the layout.  I figured the Rose Red was something a little different but not pink enough to be really girly.

I did half of the dinosaurs with the silhouette and the other half bones just for funsies.

Can't have a dinosaur layout without a T-Rex.

And the journaling block accent is dino tracks.  Ha!!

Today's color palette:  Pumpkin Pie, Island Indigo, Rose Red, Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, and Whisper White.  I think next time I might switch out the Saffron for a more saturated yellow, it seemed a teensy bit lost to me with all those other strong colors on there.

That's it for me today.  Cheers, peeps!

Dino Dud

*sigh* Sometimes, an idea just works out better in my head than on paper.  I had this funny idea of a birthday card with a T-Rex chasing a balloon, and I'm just not sure it comes across.

Plus I don't have any of the new balloon stuff that SU! has come out with, and that bitty balloon punch would have come in handy but instead I free-handed it and my balloon looks misshapen and wonky.  So I covered it in Iridescent Ice to distract :p

I used this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the balloon was for this week's Global Design Project theme challenge:

And finally, this week's Color Throwdown:

That splat looked more Tip Top Taupe to me than gray, so I went with Taupe and paired it with Real Red, Basic Black and of course white.

Anyway, it's time for me to go run some errands.  Ta-ta for now, y'all!

Dem Bones (Again)

Ok, so far this week I'm still doing pretty terrible about getting in my craft room as my cross stitch obsession continues to rule my waking hours.  But I did manage to tear myself away from stitching long enough to make a card today!

Yep, loving the dinosaurs in No Bones About It.  Every single stamp I used on here is from that set.  And do you see?  I finally got some current DSP other than Cherry on Top!  I got the DSP stacks in the latest In Colors and also the Brights.  Love these new patterns.

My colors are from this week's Colour Me...! challenge:

Orange and green were my parents' high school colors, I like the bright and fun color combination.  Let's be honest though, I love Cucumber Crush pretty much all the time.  Real life cucumbers, not so much.

I also gave the latest Fab Friday sketch a twirl:

And that's all she wrote today.  I have to actually get some non-stitching things done and it would be good if I could make more progress on the baby books, so wish me luck!

P.S. Ma, I'll send you this card so you can mail it to your lil penpal.

Supplies, all SU!

Dem Bones

Ever have days where it just feels like your mojo has gone on a vacation without you?  That's kinda how I feel with stamping today.  I think probably partly because I'm kinda sorta a little bit obsessed with my current cross stitch project so that's all I want to work on, even though I have baby books to do and only 11 weeks until my friend's due date.

But I did get a few new stamps earlier this week.

Like everybody else, I'm totally in love with the dinosaurs in the new catalog and I had to get them even though I have an older dinosaur stamp set.  I used a sketch and color challenge for this, and although I love the sketch and the color challenge, this card feels a little out of balance to me.  I think it's too heavily weighted to the left; if the T-Rex was facing the other direction I think it would work better for me.  Dangit.

Anyway, here's the fabby colors from The Color Throwdown:

I mixed two old In Colors with two new ones:  Baja Breeze (still so sad it's retired!), Crisp Cantaloupe, Tip Top Taupe, and Cucumber Crush.

And here's the Mojo Monday sketch:

So I'm thinking about sending this card to my dad because he could use some encouragement right now, but I also don't want him to think I'm comparing him to a dinosaur.  Hmm.

Ok, I'm off to work on some other to-dos on my list.  Cheers, peeps!
