Hello Sunshine

Mornin' y'all!  I've already taken Daphne for her morning walk and she's happy about that.  It's a beautiful morning here too.  Ryan starts school at the beginning of August (hooray!!!!) so we're enjoying the last of summer, and I have a summer card today too:

I was looking for a non-floral stamp set to use for the CAS Colours & Sketches color challenge:

Call me Mary Mary for I am quite contrary and I like to go with something different for floral color combinations just to prove that they don't *have* to be floral.  Make what you will of what that says about my personality.  Even the Atlantic Hearts sketch has flowers on it:

I did take out a couple of layers to make it more CAS for the other two challenges I'm entering today, but I think you can still clearly see the sketch influence on my card.  And the reason the gingham doesn't go to the card edges?  I was using a scrap that was 4 inches wide so I made it work.  And it only just now as I am typing this occurred to me that I have an entire PACK of gingham patterns that I could have used and they're even Daffodil Delight but oh well.  Last up is the AAA cards challenge:

I suppose my card could fit in with both activity and colors.  This is actually the first card I made:

But I decided that the card base and the DSP both needed to be Daffodil Delight so I made the other one, which I like better.  I had to toss another one when I dropped the greeting stamp--inked up, of course--on my card front and got black smudges all over it.  Ugh.  Some days are just like that, am I right?  But here's what today looks like:

I think these are weeds but I liked the rusty red color on them and the sky was particularly blue early this morning.

Hoping to find some zen in my craft room today.  My mom is having major surgery tomorrow and I'm stressing about it a bit, so all prayers and good vibes appreciated.  Now I'm going to finish my cuppa gingerbread tea and manifest calm.  Wish me luck.  Cheers!

Sweet Summer Swimsuits

Hey y'all, happy Friday!  And today's card is the last one I'll make in my Texas craft room as the crew is coming on Monday to start packing up all my stuff for the move to Colorado.  So here's a summery card for today:

Sunny Splash was the first stamp set I thought of when I saw the Retro Rubber Challenge:

I've had the stamp set for over a year and a half but I had only used it once before now.  For the tic-tac-toe, I went along the diagonal with die cut - summer - sequins.  Once I chose the stamp set, the first color that I thought of was Pineapple Punch, which is the happiest yellow ever invented, and that led me to the How Sweet It Is DSP, which was candy-themed but also has some fun patterns like the rainbow stripes and polka dots.  Of course I had a yellow polka-dot swimsuit (even if it's not a bikini) for the middle of my card.  A few Tutti Frutti sequins and it's done!

Okay, I'd better get some stuff done today--I had intended to start getting things prepped to move yesterday, but after I picked up Ryan from soccer camp and we went to lunch with my dad, I was just zonked out and I took a nap, then did some stitching and read a bit before going to bed.  So today I have to start organizing things, starting with my craft room since it takes a while to get all the ink pads ready to move.  Cheers, y'all!

Stylish Swimwear

Well, today is my only work day in a three-week span *shrug* So I'm packing up my stitching project and we'll see if I can work on it while I'm minding the shop at Arts & Crafts today.  Then it'll be back to more moving prep.

I think I bought Sunny Splash last October maybe when they had a sale on all stamp sets?  Anyway, I was waiting for warmer weather to use it and now it's retiring and it's still a high of 52 degrees where I am, so definitely not warm enough for a swimsuit.

Check out this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

I just wrote down the color names from the photo rather than converting them to SU! names, so maybe I would have switched to using Parakeet Party, Daffodil Delight, and Tahitian Tide to match the colors better.  But instead I used Lemon Lime Twist, Pineapple Punch, and Bermuda Bay--one returning color, one retired color, and one color that is retiring shortly.  And even though the swimsuit on my card isn't a bikini, it still had to be yellow with polka dots : )

I've got a bit of time before I have to leave for work so I'm going to go make a bit of progress on my current scrapbook layout.  Cheers.
