Frankenstein Castle

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I am still trying to recover from the appendectomy...it just seems like I have zero energy.  I can, at least, take Daph for walks now, which she appreciates since she didn't get to go for almost two weeks.  But then I require a nap afterwards.

Anyway, I do have a scrapbook layout to share today and I thought we'd go with Frankenstein Castle for a spooky vibe.

There are actually two different Frankenstein Castles in Germany, so we went to the one that was closer to our house and that supposedly has some kind of connection to Mary Shelley, though I have to say it didn't seem any spookier than any of the other castle ruins I've visited (which might be dozens?  I would have to count).  Then again, we didn't stay for the after-dark festivities either.

Today's not-really-spooky palette:  Sahara Sand (honestly I miss this color, Basic Beige has a sickly green undertone in my opinion so I find it hard to use), Groovy Guava, Mossy Meadow, Gumball Green, and white.  Nothing real special on this layout, just pictures, but that's okay.

Time to go chivvy Ryan along so we can get out the door on time, and then I have a doctor's appointment.  Probably followed by a nap.  Cheers!

Prague Castle

Scrappy Tuesday, y'all!  I was all set to publish my SUO Challenges DT post and then...I realized it's supposed to be for next week, not today.  Glad I realized my mistake before I hit publish!

Since I skipped Scrappy Monday yesterday, I thought I'd share a layout today instead.  Here's the first set of pages from a quick weekend trip to Prague in 2021:

Prague Castle is one of the largest castle complexes in the world and the government still has offices in use there while other parts are open for tours.  My favorite part?  We saw the window where one of the defenestrations of Prague happened.  Gotta respect a people who will toss politicians out a window when they lose patience.

Today's color palette:  Gray Granite, Mint Macaron, Watermelon Wonder, Not Quite Navy, and white.  I love Watermelon Wonder as a bright pop against the more muted colors and it plays so well with Mint Macaron.  I've been so busy with the Nancy Drew books that I haven't scrapped in quite a while, hoping to fit that in soon.

Time to get Ryan off to school.  Cheers!

Warnemunde & Rostock

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Well, the hubs went back to work today, less than two weeks after brain surgery.  (He's the only one who thinks this is a good idea.)  I have enlisted our friend Bennet to check on him since they work in the same building, and I also texted his boss to send the hubs right back home if boss thinks he's overdoing it.  If he does stay at work all day, I'm hoping for a quiet and productive day for me at the house.  We'll see.

So, scrapbook pages!  These are from our 2014 Baltic cruise and Warnemunde was our first port.

The day we arrived was a German holiday so a lot of things were closed and we elected not to attempt a 3-hour train journey to Berlin (we did go to Berlin a few years later when we were living in Germany).  We took the much shorter ride to Rostock and had a look around, got rained on, then ended up back in Warnemunde and looked around the port and bought ice cream.

At this point I have done a LOT of scrapbook pages for European travels, and I'm always looking for ways to work in or show off Cajun Craze and similar colors.  It's on a LOT of buildings across Europe.  So today's palette is a Sahara Sand page base, Pistachio Pudding, Evening Evergreen, Cajun Craze, and Whisper White.  I think the neutral page base and greens do help accent the deep oranges in the photos.

That's it for me, y'all.  I've already got a load of laundry in the washer, we'll be leaving to get Ryan to school in about 15 minutes, and I have my grocery list ready.  Time to be productive!  Cheers!

Castle Acre Priory (Invasion)

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  I think I am *finally* starting to feel better after being a human pancake for a solid month.  I went to the doctor on Friday and it turns out I've had pneumonia!  At least now I don't feel like a weakling who couldn't shake a cold.  I've got antibiotics and steroids and like I said, I feel like I'm finally on the upswing now.  Which means hopefully I'll be back on track with scrapbooking very soon, I've got two layouts on my table right now, and a giant stack I need to take photos of.

For now, here's one of my recent finishes:

More pics from the "Invasion" in 2013, during the Britain part of their trip.  The hubs and I took everyone up to Castle Acre Priory so they could kinda get a taste for the kinds of things that we typically did over the weekends, and we had a lovely cream tea at a local tea room afterwards.  I put a couple of bee accents on these pages because beekeeping sounds like something the monks might have done when this was a working religious house.  After all, monks all over Britain brewed beer and did stuff like that, so why not bees.  I don't know if they actually did keep bees but I like 'em on my pages anyway.

Today's palette is a bit unusual I think:  Fresh Freesia, Certainly Celery, Terracotta Tile, and Basic Gray.  It's a triadic color scheme (purple - green - orange) and the Terracotta Tile isn't that molten orange like it looks in the picture.  I think it works pretty well though, I like it.

Gotta go do some grocery shopping and then hopefully lots of work in my craft room. Cheers, peeps!

Hogwarts Express

Scrappy Monday!  I spent a lot of time yesterday uploading more pictures to print out for yet more scrapbook pages--I ordered a year and a half's worth of pics yesterday.  I think it's safe to say I won't be catching up on my scrapbook pages anytime soon, but I do enjoy the process anyway!

Today's layout is another one from our first trip to Scotland.

Check out the original pictures here.  We got to ride the Hogwarts Express over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which is where they filmed the super-famous train shot from the first Harry Potter movie.  We also had a Harry Potter trivia game which I won ;)

Today's color palette:  Midnight Muse, Kiwi Kiss, Cherry Cobbler, and Whisper White.  I must have taken the photo on a super-cloudy day because no matter what I do everything ends up kinda bluish-gray.  Well, what can ya do.

Have a great Monday, peeps!
