Get Well Tree

Mornin', y'all.  So....I really don't know what else to say, 'cause I don't want to talk about the election or anything.  People be crazy.  Let's just ignore that and have a go at today's card.

I've discovered that if left to my own devices for a sketch, I tend to go very simple.  But I dunno, this card seems a little too plain to me?  I started with the color challenge from Global Design Project:

I admit it kinda stumped me until I put it together with the Cupcake Inspirations Challenge:

I pulled out the tree from Thoughts & Prayers just because I hadn't used it in a long time and I liked how you could fit a sentiment under it...thought about going with a sympathy card (because it's always good to have one or two on hand) but the colors seemed too bright for that, so I thought a get-well card would be better.  And I usually don't have a lot of those in my stash so that seemed a good idea.

So yesterday I spent a good chunk of time working on more scrapbook pages, and when I get some journaling done I will have met my 2016 scrapping goal, yay me!  And I really liked the layouts I was working on yesterday so all I wanna do today is more scrappin', but I should probably go to the gym first just because I had cinnamon rolls for dinner last night.  Told the hubs I just didn't feel like cooking up a "real" dinner :p

Squee!  Okay, so I was a little liberal in my interpretation of the two banners, but you can definitely see the sketch in my card, right?  I made it to match this baby onesie:

My friend Tiana's girls (who call me Aunt Christy) sent this to me, isn't it adorable.  And why are they sending me baby clothes?  Because this:

Yes, that is an ultrasound and yes, it's MY ultrasound.  Hubs and I flew out to Texas on Saturday to tell our families that we're expecting a wee baby boy to arrive in February of 2017.  I hear he should look more like a human and less like an alien by then.  SURPRISE!!!

Baylor Smiles

Mornin', y'all!  Hope your day is off to a sunny start.  If not, maybe this will help:

Yep, definitely sunny.  :)  I started with this week's Global Design Project challenge:

I used a similar layout with the vertical sentiment and kept the floral idea, but instead of doing a watercolor look I went with bold and graphic.  I also used this week's Cupcake Inspiration Challenge color combo:

I interpreted the colors as Cucumber Crush, Basic Black, and Daffodil Delight.  Which means green and gold and kinda Baylor-y so I know who's going to get this card in the mail :D  The sentiment is from Greatest Greetings, which I chose for the What Will You Stamp? challenge:

Maybe later today I can actually break out some of the new stamps I got last week!  Here's hoping.

I designed the card with the sentiment going up the side but I think I might like it better this way.  Guess it works either direction since the flower panel doesn't have an up or down orientation.

Just Keep Swimming

Hey y'all, how's it going today?  I'm feeling a little off my stamping game, to be honest.  But I did get a card made for today.

I'm a little disappointed that the top turtle ended up being a little smeary.  I stamped the turtles with Versamark and Cucumber Crush, and I really didn't expect that to work with stamping off but that turtle looks pretty good.  They're embossed with clear EP, then I spritzed the whole thing with water and haphazardly watercolored some Tempting Turquoise for the background and dried it with the heat tool.  So why an undersea card today?  Because of the Cupcake Inspirations challenge, of course:

And I made it a get well card for the Global Design Project challenge:

Now all I have to do is write "just keep swimming" on the inside when I need to send it to someone :)  I combined those two challenges with the Mojo Monday sketch:

The sea turtles were actually my second try on the background panel, here was the first one:

I liked how the "sea" turned out better on this one (except the scribble on the top above the turtle because the paper wasn't wet enough yet) but I thought that having all three of the sea creatures on there just made it too busy.  So I went with my favorite turtle instead :)

In other news, watermelon-flavored Greek yogurt is just weird and should not be a thing.  Glad I only got one container of that...

Nacho Blog Hop: St. Patrick's Day & Easter Projects

Happy Nacho Day, folks!  That's right, it's time for another Nacho Average Blog Hop.  If you came here from Anne's blog, welcome!  And fear not, there are links for the entire hop at the bottom of the post.

This month's theme is all about two spring holidays:  St. Patrick's Day and Easter.  I had to put my thinking cap on for this one because a.) SU! doesn't do many St. Paddy's Day stamps and b.) I didn't get any of the specifically-for-Easter stamps this year.  But let's see what I came up with, shall we?

No clover stamps?  No problem!  Use hearts to make your own--the hearts and background swish are from Work of Art...I jumped on the bandwagon when everyone else bought it but I've never done much with it.  So imagine my surprise when it came to the rescue for a St. Paddy's Day card!  The sentiment is from Greatest Greetings and just seemed like the perfect thing for my heart-y clover.  The stem is from Apple of My Eye, which continues its streak in my house of not making anything apple-related.  I could have done a few more swishes and made a rainbow but I just thought of that and I kinda like the simplicity of the green-and-yellow combination.  More on that in a minute.

I mentioned in last week's Friday Flashback post that I got Tag Time specifically for this wee little clover and I could NOT resist busting it out again when I got the idea for this bear card.  And it's a Baylor bear card thanks to a whole lot of Garden Green and some Crushed Curry OH HI MISSY!  Ha, I always think of her when I make anything bear-related.  And since Baylor's colors are green and gold, that Go Green sentiment is doing double duty.

And finally, here's something for Easter...I remembered that Barnyard Babies has a sweet little lamb in it and of course Teeny Tiny Wishes has sentiments for just about everything.  Confession time:  I totally stole this layout from Rita Wright, who uses it as a fall-back layout from time to time and I like it :D  Anyway, I wanted my little lamby-toes to stay white so I got to pick any pastels I wanted for Easter colors.

Little Miss Perfect

Howdy, peeps!  For the first time this week, I got a card done the day prior to when I needed to post it, I made today's card last night while my hubs was putting together some Ikea drawers for my craft room (thanks, Tiana!).  So anyway, the baby shower might be over but apparently I still have babies on the brain.

I thought that sentiment from Greatest Greetings would be awesome for a baby girl card.  Anyway, my creative process began with the Paper Players' tic-tac-toe challenge:

I went down the left side, using flowers, die cuts, and yellow.  I paired it with the Freshly Made Sketch for this week:

My banners are a bit longer than it shows in the sketch so that they could accommodate the sentiment, so I pulled the onesie over to the side so that I kept the asymmetry of the sketch.

Lastly, I used this week's Colour Tree combination:

I think the trend the past few years to have more saturated colors for baby stuff is fun, I like it.  I only used a tiny bit of Tip Top Taupe and just a bit more of Pool Party, but I think the Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral work really well for the rest of the card.

I've got a poor sick hubs at home today so I will be quietly working in my basement craft room while he hopefully gets lots of rest so he feels better.  And also so we're separated by an entire level in the house so maybe I won't get sick? ;)  Cheers, y'all!

Blushing Gold Butterfly

So I said yesterday that Blushing Bride isn't my favorite color, and then the stamping gods laughed at me and I made this:

What the WHAT, y'all.  Why is Blushing Bride taking over my crafty life?  Although color issues aside, I'm fairly pleased with how this turned out.  It all started with the Global Design Project CASE the Designer challenge:

So, obviously I kept the gold and the stripes, but I was thinking of the diagonal striped patterns that SU! has now and the diagonal stuck in my head.  Of course, that paper is all white plus color, and the Cupcake Inspirations color challenge calls for vanilla:

Now I want frosting, y'all.  Anyway, in my crafty brain white and vanilla do not go together, so I had to make my own patterned paper.  I kinda flipped through the SU! catalog a little bit, because that helps get me un-stuck when I have muse problems, and that's when I found the really long skinny stamp in Butterfly Basics that I used to make my stripes.  I stuck my card front down on grid paper with some repositionable adhesive and kinda eyeballed the stripes.  It's a photopolymer stamp set, so that very long skinny stamp kinda curves a little bit when you stick it on the block, but I decided that the imperfections were what made this a fun background so I went with it.  Actually what took the longest was deciding what color to use for the sentiment; eventually I settled on Soft Suede, and I sponged a bit of it around the Very Vanilla card front for good measure.  I thought about adding some more stamping to the card front, and really grunge it up, but I decided less is more.

Wow, y'all, I chatted a lot about this card.  Anyway, it's time to get my rear in gear and get ready to leave tomorrow for baby shower weekend in Texas!  Cheers, peeps!

Nacho Average Blog Hop: Sale-a-Bration

Heyyy Nacho fans!  Welcome to the first ever Nacho Average Blog Hop, which is preempting this week's Friday Flashback.  Today the Nachos are sharing projects made with Sale-a-Bration items, and my stamp set is What I Love.  Let's check it out shall we?

I'm starting off with a one-layer CAS card.  The flowers are stamped in Pool Party and Island Indigo, and the leaves are Pear Pizzazz (I mentioned earlier this week that I was having a Pear Pizzazz-y week).  I was going to do the sentiment in Island Indigo but that just seemed like too much blue, so I used Calypso Coral instead.  I like the little pop of warm coral.

Next up is something a little more involved, but again with the Pear Pizzazz :)  How do you like Pear Pizzazz paired with Rose Red and Blackberry Bliss?  I so just tried to write "peared with".  The greeting is from another SAB set called Perfect Pairings.

And my last card for today is also purple but I used Mint Macaron instead of Pear Pizzazz.  Oops.  How do you like that Perfectly Artistic DSP?  Also a Sale-a-Bration freebie :)  Actually the greeting stamp set was a freebie too, I got in some stuff on Wednesday and that stamp set was put in my box by accident (I hadn't ordered it).  So I called SU! and they told me to keep it, which is awesome because I was thinking about ordering it anyway.  SU! is psychic!

You might recognize this as an old Nacho sketch challenge, it was one of my favorites.  I also used this week's Cupcake Inspirations color challenge for the last card:

SU! retired so many of the purples a few years ago that I had to bring Orchid Opulence out of retirement to make my card, none of the current purples look anything like the lilac in the challenge graphic.
