Christmas Whimsy

Mornin' y'all!  I made pumpkin pancakes for breakfast this morning and Ryan agreed that they could join the Sunday breakfast rotation...he's chosen pumpkin cake every time for his turn for like the last six months.  Now don't get me wrong, I love pumpkin coffee cake, but even I was getting a little tired of it!  The pancakes were good but I burned my hand while I was making them (we have a little pancake cooker thing that's kinda like a waffle maker so they cook on both sides at once, but the sides of that thing get VERY hot as I unintentionally discovered this morning).  This is why I don't do dangerous things, I am dangerous enough (to myself, mostly) without taking unnecessary risks.

Anyway, I have a quick card to share today.

The Inspired By... challenge reminded me of the Whimsy & Wonder Specialty DSP that came out a few years ago, I think I bought it when it went on the clearance rack and this is the first time I've cut into it.

And I used the latest Freshly Made Sketch:

The DSP is doing all the work on my card, and the two patterns I used are both sides of a single sheet of paper.  I layered the Misty Moonlight pattern with the circle cutout on top of the other pattern, but I suppose I *could* have just cut out the circle and flipped it over and it would have been an inset instead of another layer.  Didn't think of it at the time but it's not like I don't have a zillion sheets of paper in my hoard.

Daphne tells me that she wants to go for a walk this morning and I need to work off some pancakes, so we're going to go enjoy an unusually warm and sunny December day before I tackle Ryan's laundry.  Cheers!

Christmas Thoughts Duo

Mornin' y'all, how's your Friday going?  Mine started extra early...every once in a while the hubs has a weird work schedule that involves getting up at 4am so guess who was *also* awake at 4am.

Nevertheless, I have two cards to share today, starting with this one:

Here is this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And I used the colors from CAS Colours & Sketches:

But I worried that it wasn't really CAS enough, and I still had all my paper scraps out including another bit of that same plaid, so I made this:

Same basic idea as the first card, but I took out the Night of Navy layer and I changed the layout around to leave more white space and thus make it more CAS.  But before I mail this out I'm going to add some gold glitter enamel dots like on the other one ; )

That's it for now, peeps.  Have a good Friday...I'm going to go make a cuppa tea and try to wake up.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Sleigh Ride, Greatest Part of Christmas
Ink:  Night of Navy, Stampin' Blends in Real Red & Shaded Spruce

Punny Deer

Hey y'all!  I am officially more than half done with my nephew's baby book--9 layouts out of 17, so whoop!  Still bustin' a move to get the other ones done before Christmas but I'm feeling pretty good.

So I took some time out and made a card yesterday and it made me giggle because I love puns.

Do you see it?  "Hold most dear" with a DEER?!  I crack myself up, and that's what matters ;) I had started out with a different sentiment there, but I needed something narrower to accommodate the sketch I was using, and then the deer thing made me snort-giggle so I had to do it.  Also, the colors are off in the picture because it was dark when I took the photo and my Ott Lite is dying after many years of service.  So I'll retake this in daylight and edit.  (ETA:  Slightly better picture uploaded.)

Anyway!  The sketch from Freshly Made Sketches:

The deer is standing in (literally and figuratively, haha) for the teal strip on the sketch.

I also used this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Coastal Cabana (sponged sky behind the trees), Shaded Spruce (a bit darker than the photo here, but I think still acceptable), gold, and white.  Plus some Early Espresso for my deer.

Have a great weekend, peeps.  Cheers!

SUO Challenges: Dealing With Dies

Hey y'all!  It is time once more for a new challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around, we want you to use your dies!  I use dies all the time so my first challenge was narrowing down which ones I wanted to use :)  I thumbed through all my current dies and chose Wild Rose.  At first I was going to do something all sweet and pastel, and then...this happened instead:

How about a Christmas rose instead?  I used the colors from the Wrapped in Plaid DSP and I used five different dies from the set.  I'd never used two of them, the gold border one and the navy blue sprigs behind the rose.  So yeah, I think this card counts as die-riffic.

Now it's your turn!  Make a card using dies and share it on the SUO Challenges blog.  Cheers!
