Oklahoma, Part 3: Bubble Blasters

Scrappy Monday on a Tuesday!  And I'm at the halfway point for sharing the Oklahoma layouts.  And this one is fun, look:

My mom brought bubble blasters, which are guns that shoot bubbles.  When she told my dad she got them for the kids, my dad at first thought she meant me, my brother, and our respective spouses--haha, nope!  There's grandkids now!  My niece Clara liked shooting all the bubbles onto the table on the porch and then rubbing them in her hair.

This was a fun color palette, even if this picture is a bit dark:  Magenta Madness, Emerald Envy, Lemon Lime Twist, Soft Sky, and Whisper White.  Love the magenta page base with the mix of greens and blues on the patterned paper.

Cheers!

Lovely Tulips

Hey y'all!  This week's Scrappy Monday post will actually be on Tuesday ; ) because I wanted to get my card submitted to Freshly Made Sketches before the challenge ended.  Take a looksie:

And here's the sketch:

We're well past tulip season here, but the idea popped into my head as soon as I saw the sketch so I had to make it anyway.  (Plus I needed an excuse to ink up Tulip Fields before it retires at the end of June...)  I colored the windmill with a mix of Crumb Cake and Soft Suede Blends, and then used the Color Lifter on the main part of the windmill which gave it a nice mottled look.  Also, Mossy Meadow isn't listed as one of the colors in the Flowering Fields DSP, but it sure matches up well to some of the patterns in my opinion.

Hope your week is off to a good start.  All our guests left yesterday so we're using today to relax and recuperate a bit before getting back to our regular routine tomorrow.  Cheers!

Tic-Tac-Toe with the Paper Players

Sunday means it's time for a new Paper Players challenge, and this time we have a fun tic-tac-toe board from Ann!

I decided to go for the bottom row, die cut/punch - rhinestones/pearls/dots - circle.  Here's what I made:

Let me toot my own horn a bit and say I got the ladybug's spots lined up on the first try WITHOUT using the Stamp-a-ma-jig!  That never happens :)  I used a punch and multiple dies to make this and dug into some more of the fun patterns in the Butterfly Kisses DSP Stack.  I am loving these new In Colors!  I used three today--Sweet Sorbet (good ladybug color!), Parakeet Party (probably my new favorite), and Starry Sky (which I now want to use for everything that I would normally use Night of Navy for).

I hope you'll play along and post your card on the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Pure Magic Mermaid

Happy Friday and Day #3 of Pure Magic cards : )

Just trying something different with the mermaid here.  I kinda wish I'd embossed her so she'd be shiny, but I didn't have long to make this card so I went with the quick option of just plain ink on colored cardstock.  The rhinestones look a bit weird in the picture, but they're Pacific Point to match the card base.

Hope you enjoyed the Pure Magic cards.  I was just playing around with the stamp set and some color combinations with the new In Colors.  Cheers!

Pure Magic Dragon

Day #2 of Pure Magic cards, and it's time for a dragon!

I decided that I wanted a Sweet Sorbet dragon, and then went with a kinda monochromatic color combo of Sweet Sorbet, Merry Merlot, and Blushing Bride.  And those teeny-weeny little feetsies are hard to color without going outside the lines.  I'm excited to have a new dragon stamp!

Cheers!

Pure Magic Pegasus

Last Thursday I sat down and had a playdate with Pure Magic, one of the new stamp sets in the SU! catalog.  No challenges, just playing around, so I have cards to share for the next couple of days.  Here's the first one:

I did kinda start with the colors from last week's Color Throwdown challenge, which I interpreted as Pool Party, Parakeet Party, and Starry Sky.  I would have used Coastal Cabana but there aren't any Coastal Cabana Blends and I NEEDS THOSE.

Cheers!

SUO Challenges: Kid Cards

Happy Taco Tuesday and SUO Challenges day!

Our theme this time is cards for kids.  One of my honorary nieces has a birthday coming up this summer, so I was thinking of her when I looked through my craft room for ideas.  Here's what I made:

I didn't get the Best Butterfly bundle, but I couldn't resist the Butterfly Kisses DSP Stack!  It's got super fun patterns and colors, and several of the sheets have butterflies that are easy to cut out, which is what I did here.  And for once you can see where I added Wink of Stella on top of the butterfly!  The rhinestones are Fresh Freesia but despite taking several pictures I couldn't get them to show up how they look IRL.  Also I know the Stitched So Sweetly dies just retired but for reals, I'm probably never going to stop using them.

Okay, now it's your turn!  Upload your kid-centric card at the SUO Challenges blog.  Have fun!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Peaceful Moments
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  Fresh Freesia, Starry Sky, Butterfly Kisses DSP Stack

Oklahoma, Part 2: Oooooklahoma!

Scrappy Monday!  As promised, I'm back with another Oklahoma layout.

I did five layouts for this trip, and I used the same alphabet for all the page titles, and I used patterned papers that all have that kinda watercolor look to them (though not all from the same pack).  This one has the same polka dots pattern I used on the first Oklahoma layout.

Today's color palette:  Garden Green, Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Cinnamon Cider, and Whisper White.  Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade carried over from the first layout.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Pure & Simple Alphabet, Thankful Forest Friends
Ink:  Cinnamon Cider, Poppy Parade, Early Espresso marker
Paper:  Garden Green, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Thick Basic White, Berry Delightful DSP, Brights DSP

Paper Players: Flippin' Awesome Sketch

It's Sunday, which means it's time for a new Paper Players challenge!  Check out this awesome sketch from LeAnne:

Fun, right?  Here's what I made:

I couldn't resist using stars for two of the shapes on the sketch, even though the Stitched Stars dies just retired.  How awesome is the He's the Man suite?? I used the handy-dandy item number to buy the entire suite (stamps, dies, DSP, and embellishments).  My hubs does like to grill steaks on occasion, so this will be a good Father's Day card for him.

Give the sketch a try and share it with us at the Paper Players blog.  Have fun!

Ink:  Early Espresso

Sweet Honeybee

Happy Friday!  I'm working today, and as soon as I get off work and collect Ryan from daycare, we're off on our next adventure.  We're taking Ryan to Legoland this weekend and then meeting up with the hubs' family in Bavaria for a few days before they all come back here with us.  I did manage to squeeze in some stamping time yesterday, which is good since I won't get to stamp for a week.

How about a CAS honeybee card?  I had to play along with the Festive Friday challenge:

I used flowers, one bee, yellow, and black.  I would have used twine if I had any black and white baker's twine, but I don't *shrug*  I stamped the flowers and then used a blending brush to add a little bit of green (Pretty Parakeet) behind them, and then colored with Stampin' Blends.  The bee is popped up and has Wink of Stella on his wings.

Have a great weekend, peeps!

Inlaid Leaves

Ooooooookay the house is pretty much as clean as it's going to get, I have two more loads of towels to wash and I'm done!  Which means I have a little bit of time to spend in my craft room before the hordes descend : p

Thought I'd try something different with the Tropical Layers dies and do an inlaid design.  I only used two colors of cardstock, Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana; I sponged on the insides of the leaves to make a darker version of Bermuda Bay.

Check out this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

Which I paired with the color challenge from CAS Colours & Sketches:

Then I worried that my card wasn't CAS enough, and I really liked those colors together, so I made this:

Yep, definitely more CAS this time.  For the Bermuda Bay leaf, I inked up the stamp with Versamark, then Bermuda Bay ink, and heat embossed with clear embossing powder so I could watercolor without the ink running.  The background leaves are cut out of silver foil paper; I cut the one on the left backwards (with the foil facing down instead of up towards the die) so I could have the leaves facing different directions.  The upside-down one ended up having more texture than the normal one, so I put the normal one back on my die cut machine facedown and ran it through with no die.  My cutting plates are well-used (like, a LOT) so doing that gave me some nice texture on the silver paper.  I used a blending brush to make a light Coastal Cabana background for my leaves and popped the sentiment on there.  Done!

Okay, the washer is squawking that it's done.  Cheers, y'all!

Birthday Butterfly Stripes

Hey y'all, I missed posting yesterday because we're getting ready for the hubs' extended family to visit next week.  I did make a card to share today and I've gotta write this blog post quickly so I can get to cleaning up.  So here we go!

This is a triple challenge card!  First up is the sketch from Hand Stamped Sentiments:

I probably should have chosen a smaller sentiment to be a bit more in line with the sketch.  I like this one, I can see using it over and over.

Next is the Global Design Project theme challenge:

Butterflies are definitely the supermodels of the bug world ; )

Last up is the Cupcake Inspirations challenge:

You would think I would add bugs + stripes and get bees, but nope.  I started out by looking through several packs of patterned paper for some stripes and had lots of options to choose from, but I chose the gold and white stripes and went from there.  I accented the butterflies with some small gold sequins from a past Paper Pumpkin kit.

Okay, I'm off to go vacuum the boy's room, there's a sandbox at his daycare and I think he's trying to bring it home one shoe-full of sand at a time.  Cheers!

Oklahoma, Part 1: One Cool Dude!

Scrappy Monday, y'all!  Hope you had a nice weekend.  We spent several hours at the dino park yesterday and Ryan had fun playing in the creek there.  Gorgeous weather, but I think it's going to be a hot summer.

Anyway, let's start the week off with some scrapbook pages!

In July of 2019, we flew out to Texas and then drove up to Oklahoma and spent a week in a giant fancy cabin with both sets of grandparents and our siblings' families.  Ryan was very excited to have his own suitcase (it has dinosaurs on it, we took it to London last month) and when we got to Texas, my mom gave him a pair of sunglasses and taught him to say "I'm a cool dude!"

Today's kid-inspired color palette:  Granny Apple Green, Mango Melody, Poppy Parade, Pacific Point, and Whisper White.  I'll be sharing more Oklahoma pages for the next few weeks.

Cheers!

Paper Players: Safe as Houses

Happy Sunday y'all!  You ready for a new Paper Players challenge?

This fun theme challenge is from Laurie!  Here's what I made:

And the inside:

I think my card is in CAS-Plus territory rather than strictly CAS, but this was like the third iteration of this card and I couldn't get it to work with fewer elements.  I was inspired by the colors in the challenge graphic to dig out my old Retro Fresh DSP.

But this wasn't my first idea.

Because I saw the word "house" and my brain yelled HAUNTED.

The image is so big that there really isn't much white space that's the hallmark of CAS, and I didn't want to get fired from the Paper Players for having wacky ideas ;) so I made the other card.  But yep, I was over here making a Halloween card in May.  That's how I roll.

Hope you'll join in the fun at the Paper Players blog this week.  Cheers!

Supplies, first card:
Stamps:  From Our House to Yours

No-Stamp Saturday?

Hey peeps!  I had a good time in my craft room yesterday but I didn't ink up ANY of the new stamps I got...but I did use some of the new DSP on a scrapbook layout :)  I've been really focused on scrapping this week, I finished three layouts yesterday!  I'll have to play with the stamps whenever I have my next day off work, my scrapping muse just insisted that I make scrapbook pages yesterday.

Today's card is somewhat unusual for me, I didn't use any stamps on it.

I got those Amazing Thanks dies months ago with the Amazing Silhouettes stamp set and hadn't used them yet.  I had to use the Brilliant Wings dies for a pretty butterfly after seeing this week's Color Throwdown inspiration pic:

I used Fresh Freesia, Pretty in Pink (long retired), gold foil, and Thick Basic White.  And I used this week's Global Design Project sketch:

I let the stripey patterned paper stand in for the stripes on the sketch, and then just piled die cuts on top of it.  Oh, I sponged on some Fresh Freesia ink on the solid butterfly piece just to give the card more depth of shading on the color, with the tone-on-tone stripes.  That's the only ink I used.

Have a great Saturday, peeps.  We're going to try to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather!

Stamps:  None

Llama Llama, the Coolest Llama

Wooooo it's Friday and I have today off and I got a box of new stamping goodies yesterday!  It's gonna be a fun day in my craft room as soon as I get this blog post written :)

I have a fun card today!

I saw this week's Freshly Made Sketch on Wednesday and feeling completely indecisive about what to make, and then I went to go switch out some laundry and I saw my T-shirt in the mirror and I was like OF COURSE I NEED TO MAKE A LLAMA CARD and then this happened.  I love her.  Here's the sketch:

The llama was big enough that I had to make my card in landscape rather than portrait orientation.  If you're curious, here's the shirt I was wearing, it's one of my favorites:

You know me, I llove a good punny llama, especially an adorable llama with a derpy face.  I also love Chuy's and we'll be having Mexican food as soon as we move back to the States, whenever that is.

Okay, I'm off to go play in my craft room!  Adios, amigos!

The Importance of Self-Care

Confession:  I have tea on the brain this week.  *sips tea from mug*

I wasn't *planning* on making another tea card this week, but I saw this week's sketch at CAS Colours & Sketches and I just couldn't help it!  And today I *did* use the pink :)  There's one sheet in the Tea Boutique DSP stack that has a bunch of teapots on a white background, just begging to be cut out, so I cut apart all the teapots and picked one for today's card.  The patterned strip is the back side of the sheet with all the teapots on it, that was the "extra" at the sides that had teapots going off the edge of the paper, but I managed to use even that little strip, woohoo!  The floral background is a scrap from the piece I used for yesterday's card.  The only stamp is the sentiment; I added a couple of matte dots and it was done.

Fun fact:  I do think of tea as a self-care ritual.  The entire process of making tea necessitates that you take the time to boil the water, let the tea steep, and then let the tea cool a bit before drinking.  I like to take that time for a few minutes of quiet away from whatever else it is I need to do.

Anyway, here's the fun sketch I used:

I was productive in my craft room yesterday but I had trouble getting good pictures of the things I made.  I took pics of several scrapbook layouts and I'll have to take them all over again another day, they all turned out bluish or otherwise funky.  So, I took the best pic I could of the card for today.

Hope your week is going well!  If it needs improvement, perhaps take a few minutes out of your day for a nice cuppa tea?  Works for me.

Cheers!

Teatime

Mornin' y'all!  Had a good day in my craft room yesterday--I am trucking along on scrapbook pages and just wish I could create faster because of all the ideas bubbling around my brain.  While I'm working on one layout I'm usually planning colors and papers for the next two or three.  But I also carved out some time to make a card!

Yep, this is my second Cup of Tea card this week :)  Couldn't resist using it when I saw the inspiration photo at Cupcake Inspirations:

There's lots of ladies that I would love to have a cup of tea with sometime soon.  At first I was trying to work in some Petal Pink since the inspiration photo has pink, but...I just like purple better.  And how great are Fresh Freesia and Parakeet Party together?

A friend of mine is moving and she gave us some storage cubes and shelves for Ryan's room, so today I'll be moving furniture around.  Hey, now I'll have room for all of Ryan's books on shelves, instead of having some of them on the floor!  :)  Have a great day, y'all!

Guest Designer: Retro Rubber!

Surprise double post today!  I'm delighted to say that I am a guest designer for today's new Retro Rubber Challenge!

My stamp collection is....quite extensive, as you can imagine given that I've been a Stampin' Up! demonstrator for over 15 years and I almost never get rid of any stamps.  I have literally hundreds of flower stamps to choose from, but my mind immediately jumped to one image in particular that I haven't played with in ages, check it out:

I could have gone with tulips like the inspo pic, but I couldn't say no to these sweet flowers!  The bouquet is from the stamp set Bloomin' Beautiful, which I've had since at least 2014, so quite retro.  The sentiment is retro too, Well Scripted has been in my collection for about as long as Bloomin' Beautiful, but for some reason I've only used it like twice before now.  I even dug out some retro tools--the Finishing Touches Edgelits and the Decorative Label punch (I think that one was called the Decorative Label punch...I have more than a few label punches).  I paired all this retro schtuff with some brand new colors!  This was actually the first card I made with this year's new In Colors, and I used Orchid Oasis, Starry Sky, and Parakeet Party.  Love them all, and they look fantastic together too!

Hope you'll join in the fun at the Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.  I had a great time with this challenge and I know you will too!

Supplies, all SU! (many retired)
Stamps:  Bloomin' Beautiful, Well Scripted

SUO Challenges: A Birthday Record

Happy Tuesday!  Ready for a new challenge from SUO Challenges?

This time around our theme is birthdays!  Everybody has one of those, so I know I can always use more birthday cards.  So here's what I made:

I decided early on that I wanted to use For the Record (get it now, it's not carried over in the new annual catalog) but then I got stuck on a layout idea, so I did what I always do:  flipped through the catalogs until I found something I could CASE :)  In this case, my inspiration came from page 58 of the Occasions catalog, the card on the bottom right.  I used that as a jumping-off point and made my card from there.  For the banner behind the record, I took the patterned paper (which was white with black splatters) and used a blending brush to add some Pool Party ink.  The record is heat embossed with black embossing powder, as is the sentiment.  If you're careful lining it up, the largest circle in the Stylish Shapes dies will just fit perfectly around the record.  The stars and gold gemstone in the record center are SU!, but I think they're retired.  I don't have the packaging for them anymore so I have no idea.

Your turn now!  Create a birthday card and upload it on the SUO Challenges blog.  As always, use your Stampin' Up! products and have fun!

May 2019

Scrappy Monday!  I took pictures of several new layouts that I just finished in the last couple of weeks, but for today I'm sharing one I finished a while back.

This is another of my monthly layouts with random snapshots from my phone.  May of 2019 was the first time Ryan got one of those viruses that makes you throw up a lot--it went on for about a week, poor kid.  We pulled his mattress out into the living room so he could camp out on that and I could lay on the couch, and when he wasn't sleeping we watched Cars on repeat.  And then all the pics on the right page are when he felt better again :)

Today's color palette:  Poppy Parade, Call Me Clover, Pool Party, Pacific Point, Basic Black, and Whisper White.  I wish I'd gotten an extra pack of that Animal Expedition DSP, I love several of the patterns on it and we had so few patterned papers featuring Call Me Clover as one of the colors.  You know I love my greens.

Anyway, it's Monday and that means it's back to work today!  Hope to have more time to scrap later this week...I have ideas swirling in my head.  Cheers!

Paper Players: Floral Tea Blend

Happy Mother's Day!  Well, it's Mother's Day in America anyway.  The hubs and the spawn teamed up this morning to make orange scones for breakfast...Ryan very much wanted cinnamon chip muffins, but I had picked orange scones for breakfast days ago before I even knew that today was Mother's Day, so Ryan got overruled ;)  I'll make him muffins next time.  The hubs asked for help with part of the recipe but he just chased me back out of the kitchen, so let's take a look at the Paper Players challenge for this week!

This sweet color combo is from Joanne and I love it!  These three colors look so great together.  I couldn't resist inking up a brand new stamp set from the just-released Stampin' Up! catalog and I made this:

The Cup of Tea stamp set and matching dies are the very first bundle in the catalog, and you know that this tea-loving stamper bought it immediately :)  It took me DAYS to get a good picture of this card, not sure why that was so difficult.  The teacup might look black in the photo but I promise it is stamped on Night of Navy cardstock and embossed with white, and the rhinestones are dark blue too.  I didn't even realize when I made this card that the challenge was starting on Mother's Day, but the sentiment I chose is appropriate for that!

Hope you'll take some time to play along with the color challenge and share your card at the Paper Players blog.  I just heard the kitchen timer go off so it's time to see how the hubs and spawn did at making scones :D  Cheers!

CAS Floral Triple Challenge

Happy Friday, y'all!  I unexpectedly have the day off so I plan to play in my craft room as much as I can. Wooo!

But first, a card for today.  And it's a triple challenge card!

Check out the Retro Rubber challenge:

I did the left column, watercolor + flowers + die cut.  I did a very fast watercolor wash on the card base (had to be super quick to get this done before I had to leave to pick Ryan up the other day) and added some splat stamps for a bit of extra texture.  I've had Art Gallery for over a year, Painted Poppies is two years old, and Flowering Tulips (the sentiment) isn't retro...yet.

Here's this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And the Color Throwdown:

I used Mint Macaron, Sweet Sorbet, So Saffron, and Night of Navy, though the sentiment looks black in the photo I promise it's navy.  Kinda wish I'd used a different blue.  Also I really thought the second color here looked like Cajun Craze, but the challenge write-up said "strawberry", so I figured that was a good reason to use the new Sweet Sorbet.  It's very pretty and I also covered it in Wink of Stella because why not?

Hope you have a great Friday, peeps.  I'm going to go be productive!
