Nancy's Mysterious Letter

Welcome to another Nancy Drew challenge, I love posting these every week : )  Let's take a look at #8, Nancy's Mysterious Letter:

There's the original text (OT) on the left and revised text (RT) on the right.  The RT version was one of the earlier members of my collection and for some reason I got some purple glitter on the back of it, don't remember how anymore.

Case file:  Nancy invites her elderly mail carrier inside for some cocoa and his mailbag gets stolen.  Nancy investigates and uncovers that the mail carrier's much younger half-brother is running a Lonely Hearts Club scam and is also trying to con a young lady who has the same name as Nancy.  My favorite part of this version is that the mailman's post-retirement plan is to raise guinea pigs.

So here's my card for the OT version of Nancy's Mysterious Letter:

I love the bright colors on the cover, and I decided to go with Nancy's coat and hair as my two main colors and the Lonely Hearts scam plot point dictated the image and greeting I used.

I added the pearls because I thought a 1940s book deserved pearls : )  Nancy is wearing a powder-blue coat on the cover, but in the text she wears a raccoon fur coat and there's detailed descriptions of her going shopping for outfits for a weekend at Emerson College to watch her man play football.  The university colors are purple and orange and somehow she manages to make that stylish in the book, ha!  I actually like the descriptions of Nancy's outfits in these books, I know other readers don't but I think they're fun.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  Stamped with Love
Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Balmy Blue, Cherry Cobbler, Stampin' Blends in Daffodil Delight, Cherry Cobbler, Smoky Slate
Paper:  Balmy Blue, Thick Basic White, Attic Boutique DSP, Cherry Cobbler DSP
Accessories:  Stylish Shapes dies, pearls, Dimensionals

Now let's take a look at the RT version:

The plot for this one is similar to the OT, but the bad guy has more henchmen and the other Nancy Drew has a habit of quoting Shakespeare all over the place.

Here's my card for the RT version:

Once again, I went with a postal theme but a little more abstract with the postage stamp image.  I found a pack of very old DSP in Bravo Burgundy, Pink Pirouette, and So Saffron which I thought was a good match for the cover colors.  I stamped the postage stamp in a brighter pink to match Nancy's outfit.

Nancy apparently did not get the memo from Anne Shirley that redheads shouldn't wear pink, but that's a pretty smart skirt suit, I like it.  Hope you enjoyed a little glimpse at both versions Nancy's Mysterious Letter, and if you are so inclined play along and drop me a comment.

Next up is one of my favorites, The Sign of the Twisted Candles!

Blue-Gray Valentine

Hey y'all, happy Sunday.  Ryan got to choose breakfast for this morning and of course he chose pumpkin coffee cake, it's his favorite : )

I have a bit of a nontraditional Valentine today.

I started with the AAA Cards Challenge colors:

I translated that to Evening Evergreen, Buckaroo Blue, Soft Succulent, and Bordering Blue, all of which are retired (and some for a very long time).  The card base looks totally gray in the picture but I promise it's a blue-gray.  So I had those colors in mind when I saw the CAS on Fridays challenge to make a Valentine and thought I'd try to combine them.  How'd I do?  I chose the ruffle-edged die because it makes me think of traditional Victorian Valentines; the banner behind it is actually two banners stacked on top of each other so that it's as tall as I wanted it.  The main image panel hides the join between the two.

Ta-ta for now, peeps.

Spring Duo

Hey y'all, happy Friday.  I just could NOT focus yesterday after I made the sea turtle card.  I started working on a card for today but I just couldn't seem to get it together, so I had to come back to it this morning.  And then I ended up with two cards.

I used the Global Design Project sketch:

Yesterday, I managed to get as far as choosing the Flight & Airy SAB papers--the two patterns are on a single sheet and I couldn't decide between them, so I chose both ;) Then I cut the card bases and just got stuck mentally, so I wandered off to do something else and got back to this earlier this morning.  I added a larger bird that I fussy cut from another piece of Flight & Airy to the left card, and chose one of the paper butterflies in the Perennial Lavender suite for the right card.  I painted the butterfly with Wink of Stella but I have come to the conclusion that I need a new one as it barely shows up at all.  I do use it a lot, so no surprise there.

Anyway, I think I might have better luck with focusing today, so I'm going to head back up there after I finish my lunch.  Cheers, y'all!

Going Postal

Mornin' y'all and happy Thursday!  I think I'm *finally* starting to feel better (and of course I coughed right as I was typing that sentence) And Ryan is all better too so things are looking up.  And I played with a new stamp set yesterday!

'Member when SU! had that one-day stamp sale a few months ago?  I got Stamped With Love during that sale and this is the first time I've inked it up, other than for my personal stamp inventory binders.  I was inspired by this week's Freshly Made Sketch:

And this week's Color Throwdown:

I used Crushed Curry, Pecan Pie, Sweet Sorbet, and Crumb Cake for my colors, which also fits in with the current challenge at SUO Challenges

There's only a tiny bit of Crumb Cake on the main image, I used it to shade the envelope going into the post box, but it barely shows up.  So that's why I dug out some Crumb Cake ribbon, that 3/8" satin in my all-time favorite ribbon.  I used an old retired scrap of Crushed Curry patterned paper for the background and this card is already in the mail!  I usually mail out three to five cards a week.

Okay, I'm off to my craft room!  I have yet another scrapbook layout in progress on my craft table, I've 10000% been procraftinating by scrapping pics from when we first moved to Germany instead of getting out my wedding pictures.  I do need to work on that though...Cheers!
