The Secret of the Wooden Lady

Happy Saturday and welcome to the latest Nancy Drew Challenge!  Today we're investigating The Secret of the Wooden Lady, the twenty-seventh adventure of Nancy and her pals.

There's the original text on the left, artwork by Bill Gillies.  I'm thinking that's George in the striped dress and Bess in the yellow top, but it's hard to tell since their hair color looks the same.  Why are we making George row by herself?

The revised text on the right features cover art by Rudy Nappi, it's the same scene but darker colors so the title pops more.  Also if you go back to The Secret of the Old Clock, Nancy is wearing the same dress on this cover.  Poor George still has to row by herself.

I think the title and pretend author's name stand out better on the revised cover, which makes me like it more.  Let's take a look at the mystery.

Case file:  Captain Easterly of Boston requests Carson Drew's help in obtaining a clear title to the Bonny Scot, the clipper ship that he lives on and wants to purchase from its owner.  Carson enlists Nancy's help in researching the history of the ship, which she finds out had had its name changed when it was taken by pirates, and it supposedly still contains some kind of treasure hidden on it.  Nancy has to find the ship's missing figurehead and the treasure to outwit a jewel thief known as The Crow.

Here's my card:

I actually only made this week's cards yesterday and usually I am working ahead at least a little bit.  I knew from the jump that I was going to use On the Ocean for a pirate ship.  The Bonny Scot is absolutely a character in the book, after all, and much of the action takes place on the ship and there are hidden passages and all that fun stuff.

I thought the colors of the By the Shore DSP were a pretty good match for the cover of the book, and the stripes remind me of George's dress.  And the green matches Nancy's dress pretty well too, serendipity.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  On the Ocean
Ink:  Basic Gray, Dapper Denim, Soft Sky
Paper:  Soft Sky, Dapper Denim, Thick Very Vanilla, By the Shore DSP
Accessories:  On the Ocean dies, some kind of label punch, circle punch, pearls

On to the revised text:

My childhood copy, I love it.  There are a few elements from the longer original text that are omitted here, but the mystery itself plays out the same way.  Here's my card:

The jewel thief was a major part of this book, and the treasure aboard the Bonny Scot was a ruby so I really wanted to do jewels for this card.  I came across this lovely pattern that matches the colors on the book cover pretty well:

I don't have any DSP with rubies on it so this will have to do : )  Yes, I used the same treasured friend greeting as I used on one of my cards for The Quest of the Missing Map, but it works for both stories.

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  World Treasures
Ink:  Night of Navy
Paper:  Night of Navy, Thick Basic White, Naturally Eclectic DSP
Accessories:  Apothecary Accents Framelits, Dimensionals, Opal Rounds

It took days of pondering before I sat down to make my cards for this challenge, but I had a ball when it was finally time to create.  This book is once again quite a fun installment, the 20s have really had some great books!  Five stars.  If you're inspired to create a card, comment on this post as I would love to see!  See you next Saturday when we search for The Clue of the Black Keys.  Cheers!

Pirate Ship

Mornin' y'all!  Well, I did not get the laundry done yesterday but today is a new day and that laundry is always waiting ; )  What I did get done is a pirate card!

I will be sending this to a friend who's been having a hard time of it lately because sometimes you just need to yell ARRRRR!  I was inspired to talk like a pirate by the Festive Friday challenge:

I used black, white, a ship, and waves, and I'm not sure if the pearl accents count as jewels.  They're not stones, but they are used in jewelry.  My ship is either the Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean or the pirate ship Revenge from The Princess Bride.  One of those.

My card came together super fast thanks to the CAS Colours & Sketches challenge:

And I'll enter this at Shopping Our Stash, where the challenge is on or in the water.  It was fun to pull out two of my piratical stamp sets for this card : )

Time to go walk with Daphne.  Cheers!

Supplies, all SU!
Stamps:  On the Ocean, Beware Pirates
Ink:  Versamark, Lost Lagoon, Pretty Peacock
Paper:  Baja Breeze, Thick Basic White

Treasure Ship

I'm back with another sea-themed card today...

This was the first card I came up with for the CAS Colours & Sketches sketch:

But I worried that the sketch wasn't obvious on my card.  I was thinking the waves are the bottom square, the ship is the center, and the clouds are the top shape.  But since I was hesitant about how well this one fit the sketch, I made the sea turtle card I shared yesterday.

I just looked back at my previous cards with this stamp set and both of those also have an Azure Afternoon card base and a Pecan Pie ship...guess that's just where my brain goes with this stamp set : )  And it's retiring, so you'd better snag it now if you've been on the fence.

Time to go to yoga at the Y.  Cheers!

High Seas Adventure

Okay, well, yesterday did not go as planned.  Ryan threw up at 5:30 in the morning, so I was up for a while with him, and once he got settled down with a bucket and the TV at around 8, I went back to bed and woke up at NOON.  And even after that, I still fell asleep again in the afternoon.  One of these days we'll get healthy!

I still have a card to share today though, one I made last week.

I haven't used On the Ocean much and this one accidentally looks a lot like my first card with this set.  Oh, well.  I used the color challenge from Cupcake Inspirations:

I chose Pecan Pie, Azure Afternoon, and Very Vanilla for my colors.  I'm going through a phase where I use a lot of Very Vanilla, I've used it on a couple of scrapbook layouts lately.  Need to take pics of the layouts too, I have a stack forming!

Have a great day, y'all.

SUO Challenges: A Sketch Adventure

It's time for another challenge at SUO Challenges!

This time around we're doing a sketch and I think it's a fun one!

And here's what I made:

Okay for reals, I love this card.  I have been having fun playing with Azure Afternoon (I cannot overstate how much I love this new blue) and for this card I paired it with the new Pecan Pie for the ship and returning Blueberry Bushel for the waves and the birds.  Blueberry Bushel seems to come out darker on the Azure Afternoon cardstock, it almost looks navy but I promise it isn't.  I like the On the Ocean stamp set and dies and I went back and forth about whether or not to buy them, obviously "buy them" won out ; ) Had to get them before the bundle pricing went away.

Confession time:  I came up with this sketch when I made this card a while ago:

I made this back in January when I was putting together a baby basket for a gal who works for my husband (had to keep it gender neutral since the mama wanted to be surprised, she had a boy!).  I was a bit surprised that SU! retired Happier than Happy after just one year, but it will live on forever in my stamp collection so that's okay.

So there's the sketch two ways : ) Hope you'll have some fun with it too and post your card over on the SUO Challenges blog.  Enjoy, stampy friends!
